FergusWolfParticipant
I had a chance to watch a bit yesterday afternoon. Caught part of the consolation finals. Other than the irritation of have to switch the ESPN3 stream back and forth between Mat 1 and Mat 2, I still found my heart in my throat at the end of the close matches where the wolfpack was wrestling.
Congrats to the team
FergusWolfParticipant^^ ESPN3 is included with my SlingTV, but the game was an ACC network game last night, so it was blacked out locally (in Raleigh).
I was out playing tennis last night anyways, so I watched portions of it this morning on ESPN3
FergusWolfParticipantDon’t forget the unitard!
FergusWolfParticipantCurrent thoughts are that he is going to Arizona, with us as a distant second place. Looks like another “Bam” situation where we were in the lead until a power team showed up.
FergusWolfParticipantThe NCAA pretty much has to drop the hammer on UNC or there might not be an NCAA.
That’s one fancy dream world you live in there. But all things considered, a world without an NCAA might be worth it.
FergusWolfParticipantOn their next visit they will be convicted cheaters…
If by convicted, you mean penalized by the NCAA for several minor infractions, resulting in the suspension of Roy Williams for 9 early season games, and no reduction in scholarships or post season penalties…
Then yes, they will be convicted, but I’m sure their noses will still be in the air.

So, they were #2 in the country and undefeated, and lost a close match to the #4 team in the country (it was closer than the final score indicated because of the default in GWiz’s match), and they are calling for their coaches head.
Different world, I guess.
FergusWolfParticipantAnother thing I dont get is how in the hell does Maverick have a green light to shoot.
92owen,
I think it’s the opposite, I think that coach is specifically running plays for him to get shots and take pressure off of Cat. When he’s on (like he was for Duke, GT, and Pitt) he quite an asset. He’s also averaging 3-4 rebounds a game, and actually has a decent drive and shoot game.
His 3pt % is only slightly lower than Caleb Martin, but when he’s hot, he stays hot longer.
Personally, I think that next year, he’s going to reach Scott Wood type levels, but also have a floor game (which Scott never really did).
FergusWolfParticipant…I know life is not always fair but cant understand why the NCAA would strip Henderson of a full year of eligibility having played only 7 mins of first game of season…
I hadn’t seen where the NCAA denied the medical redshirt. Can you point me to it?
FergusWolfParticipantI enjoy the typo on the survey where we beat WF 99-44
FergusWolfParticipanttractor….I’m not sure Steph Curry is a good example, considering that he was drafted #7, I’m pretty sure no one was worried about his size.
My biggest fear for Cat is that he falls down alot (and I mean alot). I’m not sure if it’s just his “style”, or if that’s the level of abandon he plays with. If it’s the latter, then I fear that he is going to be injury prone in the NBA.
FergusWolfParticipantwe had heard about WCU’s music program and the music therapy program at app state. just now starting to get serious about looking at this kind of stuff, so I appreciate all the help I can get.
David
FergusWolfParticipantBJD,
Let us know how it goes. My daughter (a sophomore now) will be looking for a music program over the next couple of years. Her primary goal is performance, with a fallback of music therapy. She’s auditioning at North Carolina School of the Arts tomorrow for her last 2 years of high school.

FergusWolfParticipantIf we were consistently (> 80% of weeks in the polls) in the top 25 in basketball (men’s and women’s), football, and baseball, as well as > 50% of the other sports, I would define that as success.
FergusWolfParticipant^^ all memories of the
goodold days…I held season tickets during both the Les Robinson and Sidney Lowe era’s. I also had tickets the first 2 years of the Herb Sendek era.FergusWolfParticipantI’m crossing my fingers that he is able to get a medical red-shirt, and hence a 6th year of eligibility. He deserves to be able to play 2 more years if he wants to.
FergusWolfParticipant^ I think our only legit shot (if you consider it legit), is to win the ACC Tourny. It would be about time.
FergusWolfParticipantAs painful as watching the losses have been, I’ve been tuning in, just to watch Cat. He is truly a treat to watch.
FergusWolfParticipantJericho is one of my favorite former Wolfpackers (Torry Holt is my favorite, how can I go wrong there).
I’m happy to see him playing for the Panther’s and am proud of his success.
FergusWolfParticipantLet’s not forget that Johnny Frasier, who was the crown jewel in our recruiting class last year red-shirted, so he should be in good position to hit the ground running (see what I did there) this year.
Once again, we should be loaded at running back (thanks to good recruiting), which is a great benefit to a first time signal caller.
I just wish that DD had managed to get McClendon some more snaps during the season.
FergusWolfParticipant^ Well, I certainly agree that a 9 or 10 win season would cure a lot of ills, and probably help recruiting too.
FergusWolfParticipantOk, just so I don’t make anyone mad, let me state, the following is NOT a reflection on any of the individual players that were recruited in the 2016 class. I’m sure a number of them are going to turn out to be fine football players, and I agree that in a lot of cases character and drive mean more to college football success than raw talent does…however…
I’d like to illustrate why I’m a little disappointed by this recruiting class…(btw, my numbers are the EPSN ranking numbers, please forgive me if you prefer someone else’s rankings, but I think my point carries regardless)
– In the 2015 class, we signed 4 4* players (Frasier, Hines, Roseboro, and McGirt), and 16 3* players
– In the 2014 class, we signed 5 4* players (Street, Richardson, Vincent, McClendon, and Jones), and 25 3* playersBut, in the 2016 class, we signed 1 4* player (Moss), and 21 3* players
I believe that great football players want to play with great football players, and that if we want to get 5* recruits, we have to recruit more 4* guys.
And again, I agree that * rating for football have a significant voodoo factor to them, but, I’m willing to bet a higher % of 5* recruits become great football players than 4*, and even fewer (% wise) 3* player become great players…
And, no, I don’t need to be told that Russel Wilson was a 3* recruit and Mike Glennon was a 4*. I understand.
FergusWolfParticipantLet me start by saying that I’d prefer my comment not be associated with “High Point University” comment. My comment was not nearly so extreme.
I don’t believe this recruiting class is make or break for the football program, but I would have hoped that we would have gotten a little more 4* talent (maybe even a 5*) to continue the momentum established by recruiting over the last couple of years.
I know that with our current backfield that there wasn’t going to be a big runningback haul, but I would have thought the potential playing time at WR and in the defensive secondard would have been a nice draw.
FergusWolfParticipantOn the surface, signing day looks a little disappointing. Now, I know in football that the star rankings are more guess work than in basketball, but what I do know is that more 4* and 5* recruit increases your chance of having 4* and 5* players.
I know we picked up Thad Moss and the 4* wideout, but I’m generally disappointed otherwise.
