Gott has been a good thing for us no doubt about it. It’s true he may be at his ceiling as well. I guess time will tell.

As for now he needs figure out how to improve on his weak areas (team wise and his on coaching skills). When the 1/2 time rec league boys are playing harder/better organized than the “main” attraction something needs to change.

Apollo – I agree that some are quick to move on to be next search. I for one want what we have to work. Whether it does is up to Gott and his ability to motivate/coach/rotate. Oh and figure out what to do with that sad excuse for an offense we have going on at the moment (this could probably be solved with players actually moving & driving).

I don’t see anyone calling for Gott to be fired (not me anyway). However, if you don’t see the obvious issues now and previously you are using the wrong glasses.

    – No intensity offense/defense
    – No leadership
    – No true PG…still
    – WTF offense
    – No organization

Heck we have 10 players we could rotate so why not run the ball wide open? Pressure defense (full court)?

I think our offense for the past 4 years can be summed up in 2 simple sections:

    1. Transition = Very Good!
    2. 1/2 Court Offense = We suck donkey balls

So run the dang ball or design an offense that works for your players. I’m not only the ledge or even close. However, is it too much to ask for a team to go all out every game? In your face defense? MOVEMENT on offense?

I took the family to the game and was just beyond ill. The kids kept wondering why I never said a word…..well here is why (warning venting):

    1. We have no desire to play hard. This team (well really all of Gott’s teams) plays so LAZY on both ends of the court!!!

    2. Gott has no clue what line up to use (hint, it ain’t the one you keep starting).

    3. Our offense is HORRIBLE. No movement at all and we only look for perimeter shots…WTH?

    4. Anya is so lazy it’s sick. KW is a spaz. Cat is only good when he pushes/drives the ball. Etc…

    5. There is NO intensity on this team at all.

    6. Repeat..Offense is just amazingly bad. We only play well in a fast paced game so why do we keep playing at a snails pace.

I like Gott and his feel for the school/history. However, he has not “coached” worth a darn since he got here. Line ups are wacky, no organization, no pressure, no intensity, etc. Man we are heading for a shipwreck soon if we don’t figure it out.

I am sorry but the laziness and no organization (particularly on offense) is freaking killing me. It’s terrible. Come on Gott get it together!!

Great article Bill. I agree with the “wonky” offense. Nothing against CAT but we REALLY need a true PG (we have needed one for a very long time). One that controls/runs the offense. Penetrate, pass and hit open shots when needed….or create them.

A PG that’s a leader..yeah that would be awesome! You don’t have to bad mouth Cat to simply say he hasn’t progressed to what we need as a PG. He has plenty of talent, speed etc but he still hasn’t put them all together. He may or may not be able to make it happen at PG. The problem is Gott put all his eggs in the Cat basket so we don’t have the greatest back up plan. Sure wish we had another solid PG to help but for now maybe Lacey can handle that role. Merry Christmas!!!

I know this is random but how difficult is it to recruit a true PG? I would think all that would be needed for a decent PG would be “come to Raleigh and you can start, have mucho playing time and play in the ACC”. Unfortunately there is no organized offense to add to the pot.

This doesn’t bother me one bit. Disgusted a little I guess but who cares there is nothing to be done about it. Move along…

What does bother me is the fact that obviously the “black cloud” hanging over UNC (scandal after scandal/academic cheats etc) isn’t really a “black cloud” to recruits. Everything is business as usual in Crapel Thrill and recruiting is still doing fine. What does that tell me? It tells me the kids don’t give 2 $hits about the “black cloud”. Why should they? Obviously it’s not effecting the sports programs over there.

Awful! Why don’t we press, play intense defense, move on offense? Heck we can’t even dribble.

What exactly does Freeman do exactly? Can we get Bobby Knight to come over and get in someone’s face? Doesn’t look like Gott will and we have no leadership. Common guys!

I gotta say it…just can’t hold it in anymore. CAT is a strange player. He is VERY good when he finds some aggressive energy (very rare) and drives the lane/turns up the speed on offensive. His defense is good.

However, the 1/2 court or running the offense game is just really bad. I mean he looks 1/2 a$$ when he isn’t pushing it. He doesn’t run the offense much if any and he NEVER looks nor moves to find a shot. I know he is the PG not the shooting guard but when he isn’t driving or pushing the ball he is really non-existent on offense.

Not dogging him just calling the way I see it. Stat wise he seems to be fine and he seems to not turn it over much so that’s good. How in the heck do we get him to be intense on offense! Our 1/2 court offense is just slow and not all that productive.

I am happy with the win and we worked hard. Just saying our offense and PG just doesn’t seem to be too hot at this point.

This is when Gott frustrates me for some reason. I find myself wanting to tell him to grow a pair in get in our teams face! Come on man bust some chops sometime.

    Anyway, let’s do this Pack!

Not to change the subject thread here but I have started to notice Doeren’s name starting to pop up more often for the Wisconsin job. Specifically on some of the Wisconsin based forums/news. All I am saying is it seems a lot of people would be happy with him. NO rumor mill or BS trying to be started here….just saying his name is starting to pop up as a potential candidate.

I hope this search is quick and does not involve anyone in Raleigh!

    Looking forward to UCF!!!

Yes Lee is certainly MIA. As for “Morgan” Freeman he was just taking up space last night.

Seemed like Lacey, the Martin twins and KW were the only ones really in the game last night. Anya was pretty well controlled by Andre the Giant from Perdue. Man I sure hope Cat finds a shot and figures out how/when to pass very soon!!!!

Oh well. The BIG TEN is tearing the Challenge up this year. Now we have lost so let’s hope it makes them better. They did play tough tonight but the offense needs some polishing. Lacey may have to pull a lot more PG duty based on Cat’s mostly non-existent time on the offensive end.

I agree the Martins (even with freshman mistakes) need a good bit of time, especially Caleb.

WTH is going on with our offense? Sorry it just looks rough. Cat still has trouble running the offense well. I mean he really doesn’t pass or shoot…at all. Turner has no business being in the starting line up.

I think we will be fine this year but we still need some PG help. Hope we can pull this one out tonight.

We are just now leaving Crapel Thrill and it was a great game to attend. We totally dominated and look great!

We brought the kids with us today (9 and 7) and it was a great day. Sat on the UNC side in some very nice season ticket seats donated by some kind UNC friends. Anyway, as much a I would like to bitch about no class with the Holes fans I must say they were very classy in my area. Very kind to the kids and to a lone wolf in red :). Matter of fact the only A-hole without class was an older sloppy drunk Pack fan who wasn’t far from us. We left early because the kids weren’t comfortable being around it and I didn’t need want to make a scene with another fellow Wolf. Anyway that’s another story.

I’ve seen enough baby blue to throw up for a week but the beat down we gave was worth it!

    Go Pack!

We win with luck. Up 10 points and we came a play call away (onside kick that was ran back for a TD by Cuse but called back) from a OT. Cuse almost scored 10 points in 1:11 seconds. Wow…I will take it but dang I’m not sure on that onside kick.

Doeren’s Mtn is high to climb so it has and will be difficult. He is getting paid very well to climb it so critics can say they want. Like was said before in this post, he was dealt a bad hand to start with but has played it pretty bad thus far.

I think almost everyone on here likes Doeren (including myself) and wants him to succeed. However, he can’t continue to be winless in the ACC. Cut it how you want, say what you want and make every excuse possible….bottom line it will not fly for long.

The Gott analogy is not relative to this topic. In his short time here he has done very well overall. He gets bitched about plenty to (bad defense).

Everyone has a right to bitch and moan so I have no issue with it. Doeren doesn’t work here for FREE! Therefore, he still has to improve no matter what. Yes, his Mtn is high but he chose that Mtn with a fat check in hand. Just improve and win some ACC games. Until I see some significant improvement I will gladly give my 2 cents. I really like Doeren but he deserves criticism when it’s needed (an I really like the guy). He still needs it…

I could write a long post to go on for days basically repeating what has been said. However, IMHO we should be concerned most with:

    1. Defense! It continues to be terrible. How many points have we allowed all year? Then again we must hold the world record for holding onto DC’s way too long.

    2. Offense has really gone backwards. However, I do think there is hope and potential there.

    3. Fatigue. I know we aren’t too deep but other programs seem to work through it. A bye week would have helped I guess.

    4. DD – I like everything about him in general but bottom line is a win must come soon. Will I throw him under the bus? Absolutely NOT nor will DY with her extended leash. That being said “if” we go 0-16 in ACC play (I still think we can pull out 1 or 2) you really have to back to evaluate this relationship.

In summary, we are not on the good side of the crossroads at the moment. Possibly looking at another 0 win ACC season. DD has recruited decent thus far compared to TOB and I do like the new offense personally (if it gets back on track). However, if he doesn’t make some significant changes quick (starting with the Defense) he will continue to loose traction with supporters. You like or love a Coach all you want but more L’s than W’s will not keep him here. We need more talent no doubt but that ain’t the only reason we are loosing. I know TOB didn’t leave us with jack squat but dang it ain’t all his freaking fault. Must still be Bush’s fault….

My bad that was longer than I had planned to write.

0 for 16 would be devastating for this program, fan base and school. Gosh I hope we find a win or two this year or the National Guard will be needed to hold down Raleigh.

I like them both (Tuffy and the block S). Obviously the S looks better on a lot of stuff (especially clothing).

I got no problem either way. Just keep the awful NSC logo far far away and all is good 🙂
