I agree…no game thread for the Holes game? Wow.
Then again I can understand why we don’t to eliminate the the heartache we endure. Maybe we are all just mentally worn out these days.
easParticipantBottom line is overall we are right back on the same path for WP basketball and football as we have been for a VERY long time. I said overall because I do think GOTT has made some improvements from the past, well really just one and that is consistent appearance in the NCAA tourney (which has been nice). However, at some point I would like to have a consistent offense and defense that produces wins in the regular season not just warming their way into the tourney.
I know this isn’t a football thread but really DD is starting to tread water a little as well. I still support them but I would be lying to myself if I tried to say I’m happy with the BB & FB program. I’m really not happy with either. Heck my kids don’t watch the games with me anymore. Why? Their answer is simple “they don’t usually win”. As you know kids can be brutally honest most always.
easParticipantHey GOTT, do you have ANY other crunch time play than the sideline 3 pointer you have been using for your entire time at NCSU? NOPE!!! Everybody knows it also. Change the da@$ play!
easParticipantI agree that most teams have a much more efficient offense than we do. Most teams have a “system” other than your basic NBA clear out or the “famous” NCSU Scott Wood sideline to sideline screen.
GOTT has certainly been a positive overall but his Offense has been AAU since day 1. Of course his Defense really never existed in the first place. Other teams just seem to have purpose on Offense and Defense.
I like the T-Shirt idea above….
easParticipantI know it’s not a BB thread but my gosh we are stinking it up this year. Doesn’t matter if you like GOTT or not….some things don’t change.
Horrid Defense
Offense that has no screens (that work), picks, roles or basically anything other than a clear out.The young, rebuilding, learning the system blah blah doesn’t cut it anymore. I’m sure we will be playing good by the end of the year but this crap is old.
easParticipantI’m a big Mark Richt fan. Class act for anyone. Someone is going to land a great Coach.
easParticipant“Despite all the uncertainty with the pending sanctions, they have managed to build a very nice football program.”
I have to say this statement by Wulfpack is what continues to bother me. Nothing against DD but we really never making any substantial movement up or down in the conference. I really think those who have moved to the positive put the money to it and put the best product on the field (Coaches & Players). I like DD as do most but we are notorious for gambling on coaches FB & BB.
For the life of me I can’t understand some of the decisions with FG’s, punts and onside kicks at times in the game yesterday. I’ll give it to the Holes they are a better team so it was expected to be their game. That being said our Offense can be predictable and slow (too slow IMHO). Defense can be scary awful on giving up big plays. Heck The Holes looked a lot bigger overall as well.
Nothing happens over night and programs/coaches need time so I can’t throw DD under the bus. However, that time for improvement should be shining through a little more than it is. No need to continue to beat a dead horse on our horrid out of conference schedule. The cupcakes have got to go and I wouldn’t mind seeing new coordinators on BOTH sides of the ball.
This is where I would say how much longer to BB but that’s not been too hot either. Trying to staying optimistic…trying real hard.
easParticipantI understand both sides of the coin to an extent. Bottom line is RW was an STAR QB, Student, and representative of NCSU. He was a great 2 sport athlete that enjoyed being here because he could do both well. So yeah he does deserve a little more flexibility making a “life” decision as someone who was still just a young man. I know TOB was trying to make the right decision for the future with the unknown of RW even coming back. Either way, everyone and their brother knows TOB wanted a Glennon style QB. Heck RW last season under TOB was a little tough because TOB tried to keep him in the pocket way too much. Not taking anything away from Glennon (who is a great QB) but RW was not a typical QB for TOB’s game. Problem was RW was good enough to make the offense match him and not the other way around.
Slice it how you want but TOB’s decision NOT to be more flexible than “normal” did cost him. So I guess TOB was fair but sometimes you need to weigh other factors (again RW was an exceptional student athlete and 2 sport player) such as the ability for a kid to make up his mind. Glennon may have transferred in the end but I don’t think he Glennon was calling the shots here. TOB wanted a pocket passer anyway and he liked Giraffe’s better than the Cheetah.
Water under the bridge…Most all of us would have loved to see RW call his last college destination Raleigh. My guess is now so would have TOB.
easParticipantDEZ and KW made a difference tonight. I still think KW sucks but I am happy he came to play tonight.
Learn an offense by Saturday and use more bench. A little less Lacey sure wouldn’t hurt either. Personally I think DEZ gives quality minutes when he is in.
Great job Pack!
easParticipantGott called timeout to call the only play he has…sideline screen to Turner
easParticipantAnd now Dez is out lol. I would sent Lacey and leave DEZ in based on Lacey’s recent play
easParticipantWe have had more runs when Dez has been in the game all year. I’m not saying it makes sense but somehow DEZ is a good luck charm.
easParticipantBack to same old thing. Piss poor shot selection and wacky ass offense. Whatever….we all know it’s all or nothing with Wolfpack basketball. Tonight is uh…nothing.
easParticipantWe may have the worst shot selection in college basketball.
easParticipantI feel guilty for saying it most of the time but yet I find myself saying “stop being a ball hog Lacey”.
easParticipantIt’s a good thing Puke still has the press on. I would hate for us to make a come back
easParticipant^^ lol BJD95
easParticipantWhy are we wearing out our starters and not using subs? Make no sense especially when they haven’t done anything.
easParticipantWell Syracuse got it handed to them with those sanctions. All while UNC still gets nothing for academic fraud that is far worse than Syracuse. What else can be said anymore….
Syracuse will be ready to play no doubt. We can certainly win this game if we play hard from the start and all the way through. If Turner and Lacey come out ice cold let’s hope they sit and let the Martins/DEZ fill that role until they find their shot. We can’t afford for them to shoot until they find it this game.
easParticipantI’m not sure I have ever heard someone say GOTT wasn’t an upgrade over Lowe or HWSNBN. Plain and simple he HAS been an upgrade. Making the tournament has been a huge upgrade alone. However, we are just as inconsistent now as we were 3 years ago. Kudos to GOTT for making the schedule more difficult (which can explain some of the inconsistent issues but not all of them). This has also been the big reason we have been on the positive side of the bubble, so again the scheduling is a good thing.
Gott isn’t going anywhere soon so love or hate him we are all going to have to deal with it. It’s simple (too me anyway) he HAS to become more consistent to get past next year. I love beating the Blues (love it) but I hate laying eggs on must win games even more. The latter is the biggest part of being successful for a program year to year. Just because Gott is better than the last two coaches we had is no excuse to free ride to say he doesn’t needs work. In my opinion the bar is low as heck if you are trying to compare what we have to the last two horrid coaches. Compare him to the rest of the league and we have a middle of the pack coach at best right now. All I’m saying is he is better than the last two but still needs work if he is going to stay. That work includes winning the must win games. Seriously all the positives he has brought (schedule, PR, a few big wins, NCAA bubble) won’t mean jack squat in a year if we still loose games like BC and the like. For now the positives mean a lot because they have been absent for a long time. However, at the end of the day being consistent in the ACC to a top 5 (in the ACC) team is what will determine his fate IMHO.
My personal opinion is he IS an upgrade but the shine is starting to wear of quickly. Without a fresh coat of paint next year he is going to have a tough time with DY (BFF’s or not). I’m also not convinced he doesn’t bolt for another job IF we make the tourney and he has a miracle run. Even with that crazy buyout.
easParticipantBC getting their first ACC win against us with authority. This is NC State basketball. When a few big ones and $hit the bed on the ones we should ALWAYS win. Been doing forever in Raleigh baby! Woo hoo
easParticipantGott putting in KW again. Really?
easParticipantSo you put in the 2nd stringers and run an aggressive defense for a few minutes. Then take them out. That will teach them GOTT…lol.
Again why KW continues to play is beyond logical.
easParticipantAbout time you put this line up in GOTT!!!!
easParticipantWhy aren’t BOTH Martin boys playing AGAIN? What doesn’t Cody play anymore?
I agree KW and RT on the court at the same time is a shot selection nightmare! Why is KW getting all of these minutes? RT is awful on defense but he can score.
