I didn’t take my kids sledding to watch the “rivalry” game. Good gosh this sucked. Gott, start putting some money back in savings. You’re going to need it.
easParticipantYes it will help us down the road but how can you say “not on the Coach”? Really? Have you seen this play defense or any Gott team play defense? We have a talented group but like all Gott teams, there is NO defense or organization on offense at all. I have never been on the fire Gott train. However, Gott makes a $hit load of money and our net results really don’t change year to year. So yeah this is absolutely on the Coach!!! Those are his players and if they don’t do what they are prepared for (or lack thereof) then it’s the Coach’s job to motivate them. This sucks!!!!!!!!!
easParticipantYogi, I think your question can be simplified. How many lower to middle dweller programs actually spend the money to hire a Coach and staff that can possibly pull them out of that hole. I would say your list of 10 Coaches will be relative to what they were paid. Yes, there are diamond in the ruff coaches who break the mold. However, MOST lower programs never break out of that level of play because they don’t pony up the cash needed to bring in a top staff. Most think they have a hungry young or lower level coach that can get it done bit they usually don’t. It’s a business like or not and slot of times you get what you pay for. I’m not in any way dogging DD with this statement just saying what is often true.
easParticipantLooks like one more year is correct. I think the TarHole game was the tie breaker. If we had lost and we kept him there would be riots in the streets. No, not riots but Yow would have had to make a more pressured decision. I really was ready to move on after horrible coaching decisions in the game continued into this year but oh well. Sign and sealed for another year I guess.
easParticipantWith the dumb coaching decisions we routinely make, I wouldn’t count out the Holes.
easParticipantI’m still boiling as well….again that series was on the staff not the players.
easParticipantYou run the ball to the short side of the field at close yardage? When you kicking game sucks why do you set it up to fail? That whole series was poor poor poor management!!

Grape, fruit punch, berry, pink lemonade etc. It taste the same every year and starts off delicious then taste cheap and too sweet by the end. Swear it off each time but get lured back in to drinking the same $hitty drink every year. Go Pack!
easParticipantI agree timing is everything and they are holding off until the championship run is complete. Too much money at stake from the lose of a cash cow. The NCAA and heck everyone else in the US (unless you live under a rock) knows about all the wrong that went on over at the Hill. The NCAA has known for a long time and they really don’t give 2 $hits. If they did the hammer would have come down a long time ago. Let’s worry about how to fix the ongoing dumpster fire in Raleigh….
easParticipantExactly…the cash cow will not be put down by the NCAA. They may or may not get a slap on the hand but too much money will be lost if the flagship sinks. This crap has been going on forever all while we get worse and they get better. I want the ship to sink hard and fast but it’s not going to happen. I wish we had something else to discuss but we don’t because we suck. I love my Pack and hate the holes! However, at the end of the day the results haven’t changed. It is what it is. They cheat and dominate with a future that will remain the same. We bitch (we have good reason to) and our future remains remains the same. Doesn’t mean I’m less of a fan but I’ve finally seen the light. Or should I say accepted it.
$hit or get off the pot Wolfpack! Let’s make a move, change things up, switch conferences or something. Someone in charge grow a pair and move forward. The Holes are going to make it through this guy’s without much of a scratch. That’s what they do and Walmart still sales their sweatshirts in California. The machine is massive and dirty. Go Pack!
easParticipantBoring is only relevant when you aren’t winning. I didn’t see many boring UVA games the past 2 years…..a
easParticipantAll it takes to shut the media up is for the next coach to have more success than the last. It’s not like we are dropping coaches quickly. Gott has been here since 4/2011 so again that’s not a short period. Normal for most other programs to make a decision. We always wait too long and pay too little.
I agree our BB and FB programs are not keeping up with our other non revenue sports. Something has to change big time. I agree that DD does get another year Mulligan based on his time here. I don’t feel that way about Gott. I may like the guy but we have to be more consistent. Not to mention a MUCH better/sound team on Defense and Offense. Not sure how that happens with our current make up and style of play. If just one other player transfers this spring the dumpster fire will certainly will burn out of control.
easParticipantThinkpack17,
Thanks for the clarification. I actually got my numbers from Wiki but I was in a mad rush before Church so I must have been off. Either way we could do better but the real question is CAN we do better?
easParticipantSince Gott was hired on 4/6/11…
ACC Standings:
5th – 2012-13 (24-11 overall)
7th – 2013-14 (22-14 overall)
7th – 2014-15 (22-14 overall)
13th – 2015-16 (16-17 overall)Yes we all agree he is the best since V and he has had us dancing. We have have finished better with more of Sid’s recruits. 20 win seasons are great and so is going dancing . However, a consistent ACC record in just the top 6 or 7 will get you there most of the time. Get to a 1-6 team and we are good. For me personally I don’t like the NCAA dance as a bar for success. I want a solid ACC record that makes the NCAA tourney a normal stop.
easParticipant^^^ agree with Wulfpack and I’m normally a glass 1/2 full guy.
easParticipantI’m not bashing for sure. The Martins were getting tons of playing time, so they didn’t leave for greener pastures but different pastures. I would have to agree there is a common denominator here unless we have a super secret all star team showing up for summer school. We knew CAT was gone with a very slight Abu chance. Now all 4 are out of here. If we sh#t the bed again this year I hope someone doesn’t actually say Gott gets a free pass because 4 guys left. We were a bottom dweller team and 4 guys left….just saying.
easParticipantAbu going to the NBA Draft according to ESPN. Wow, 4 players in a week
easParticipantThis is going to be an interesting thread. I’m going to get popcorn from the grocery store. Unless they are leaving because we picked up 2 great players to replace them we have to say this is the norm under Gott. It doesn’t matter really as we are who we have been for so long. Oh, need to get butter for the popcorn.
easParticipantThat should be great news for Gott. Throw some more gas on that dumpster fire please.
easParticipantSorry, that post was longer than I expected -:)
easParticipantFirst off, great job to pull off a last second win! I am happy we got the W.
Now, I can’t help but at least vent for a moment. We got our A$$ worn out most of the night battling back from multiple leads. BC is a Horrible team but yet they still managed to control 99% of the game on the last home game of the season. I am NOT bashing the players but I have to ask WTH? GOTT is the best Coach we have had since Jimmy V….ok we all get that. We have had good luck with the NCAA tourney part, again good job GOTT. HOWEVER, our season records every year in the ACC have been pretty week. Hello, if we have a strong ACC record we get the tourney bid no matter how much we make a magical run at the last minute of the season. Let’s not forget 2/3rds of the NCAA tourney teams were SID’s guys (no I’m not complimenting SID just saying the make up of the team). I for one would like to see a consistent ACC record and the rest takes care of itself. Without CAT this year the dumpster fire flames could be seen from the West Coast. I have concluded we will always have a terrible Defense and wacky Offense under GOTT. All these years I have NOT been a GOTT basher (still not) but at some point something has got to change. It seems we are consistently in the Wake & BC talent and strength level and GOTT has been here longer.
This is the first year ever I have chosen to not watch a lot of the games. Spend those hours doing some family time now. What will it take for us to be Atleast a Middle of the road team in the ACC? I’m not looking for miracles in the top tier but just realistic expectations for a consistent 4 or 5 team in the ACC? Who knows, it takes money and balls to make a big move, which we are kind of in a bad place with (especially money).
So good job to the team last night and keep working hard. This rant is not on them….
easParticipantWe are plain lucky to have CAT as he is carrying this team. So, yes I am happy with the win and I will cheer on regardless. That being said this year is the LEAST amount of WP sports I can ever remember watching. It’s just not the priority it once was as the rollercoaster ride of inconsistency has grown tiresome.
Without CAT the dumpster fire would be burning with a straight fuel line like an offshore oil rig!
easParticipantLuckily we are holding on with the “powerhouse” known as Wake Forest. Two dwellers going at it.
