DrWuffette1dayParticipant
I’m not upset about that loss. I would have rather not loss but not upset. I think it is good to go into the tournament with an embarrassing loss so you have more to prove.
What I saw yesterday were players with no legs. They weren’t at the space they needed to be. They weren’t getting lift on their shots. They were just tired. Their minds were there…their bodies were not. I think that’s why Coach left the starters in and just let them “play through the pain.” Besides Lacey’s 4 on 1 attempts which always drives me nuts….I didn’t see horrible play. This game will probably stick with them and will get them to the gym (today).
Teams that go into to the tournament with 5-0 plus winning streaks don’t seem to fare well in the ACCT and NCAAT. Everybody is waiting for them to lose. I’d rather lose to Boston College than UNC-CHeat.
On the streak that we have and with the teams we have beat. I’m ok with this one. If we happen to take Syracuse (which I honestly don’t care about- I’m an ACC traditionalist and SEC proponent; If Gott experimented wouldn’t bother me a bit) and then head into the tournament with some fire….this young bunch needs something to prove in the tournament and having a target on us doesn’t benefit us. If other teams are charged for us, not good for us. If they take us for granted, we will take teams by surprise. We are not a great team.
We can play very good at times but mostly, we are just good. Kudos for the coaching staff for keeping us in the game. I see massive improvement with the quality of kids (haven’t heard/seen of any parental clashes, headcase issues, stupid court misbehavior, nor diva behavior issues) and their play but we are still not quite there yet. We are close though.
I do like this team. They just need to find some motivation within themselves. Lazy as hell, entitled (god gave them the talent and/or body length) but typical of the good players that are out there. They play like they only have to do the minimal to show they care. Again, typical of all good and mediocre teams. UNC-CHeat same way. I like the guys who LIVE for the game and have passion for it. Go beyond their god-given talent. Those are the guys diving on the floor, taking charges, setting extra picks, doing the things necessary and extra to win. Right now, the guys are playing in a routine. They are tired.
Attitude check…Saw two walk-ons at Carmichael in January. One was not there to work but did run out to the hallway to meet chicks. I know he’s a walk-on. The other walk-on worked. Can you imagine how they are doing now when they are tired and beat-up with midterms coming up. My guess is not too great. That was a walk-on. They are not on the floor: They are part of the motivation strategy. It’s what happens with political, local hires. I am glad I don’t have to deal with that nonsense. Doesn’t mean that they are not good kids. Just naive kids who don’t understand that people are watching them all the time when they step into the general public. What carries in public carries back to the locker room.
Difference between Duke and everybody else. Their players don’t need a Bobby Knight speech at the beginning and halftime of every game.
We have some real h8ters on this site. I wonder if they had a bad interaction with Gottfried. Doesn’t make sense to me otherwise. Comparing him to Lowe and Sendek is about as Lowe as you can go. Gott has done an AMAZING job rebuilding this program after years of abysmal suctitude. A complete culture change in just a couple of years. Is he the coach for us long-term? We’ll see. I couldn’t be more pleased at this point. We are competitive again.
DrWuffette1dayParticipantDon’t know what he was wearing.
DrWuffette1dayParticipantI would like to talk about what nobody else is talking about- BJD’s performance yesterday. For years, the player was hounded by hostile fans because of his loss record and his impact on our games. Some said he didn’t have ACC talent. Some demanded that he be shown the door and replaced. It was never a question of heart or effort. He just couldn’t produce the W as lead moderator. It was truly disappointing to those of us, who had to suffer (for a long time) and wanted what was best for our beloved university. He showed great maturity and a die-hard attitude by never quitting on his team or dream.
Yesterday, he showed that in the capacity of a role player, who could step into the game in a time of need, he could succeed. None of us would have believed it had we not seen it. He never played outside of himself and stayed laser-focused. He was a wolf. Sometimes, we just have to put our trust in the coach and roll the ball out there on the court and let player play. Well done, (role) Player. Well done, BJD. The curse has been broken.
(I really shouldn’t write when tired.)
DrWuffette1dayParticipantEvery year, Gott has the team peaking at the right time- no matter the personnel. Yes, he is a great coach and we are lucky to have him.
We are still rebuilding a program that was lower than pathetic four years ago. It keeps getting better and better. We are beating teams that we should not be beating. We are relying on a sophomore to run our offense.
I still have a hard time with many of our players’ decision-making skills…. but…. they are having fun and they are leaving it all on the floor. This flaw actually makes me nuts sometimes. Fundamentals are looking better and we do look more disciplined except for Lacey who has obviously been given the green light as a playmaker. All of this is making Wolfpack basketball fun.
Glad the biased reffing is finally getting some attention. Thank GOD for social media. Otherwise, Swofford wouldn’t be doing squat.
DrWuffette1dayParticipantBill- nothing with the force of Beejay at that moment. I’m sure there were words later. Lacey was also doing a lot of talking and having fun doing it. Yep- on the bigs. Paige and Lacey is also going to be an interesting match-up too.
Most every game I’ve been too – the refs have been invisible. That’s the way it should be. So unlike years past. Only the Wofford game, I felt that they had an impact on the game. We all know about that one. Eades did a lot of listening to K but you expect that. K knew that his team was just missing shots. Can’t get at the refs for that. K seemed reserved….made me wonder if he was under the weather. I wouldn’t mind seeing that crew every State game if they don’t get camera hungry.
Rick- I’m ok with that correction!
God- I hope this team brings it on Weds.
DrWuffette1dayParticipantThat was soooooooo much fun. I got to watch Duke and K do the walk of shame to the locker room. Sad, sad faces. For Coach K, it was a mad, mad face.
My favorite moment was in the first half when Beejay was in Okafur’s face shouting, “YOU CAN’T GUARD MEEEEEEEE!” My favorite player is BACK. That was gold and changed the direction of the game. It was at that point I thought the game was winnable.
I am also confident of a W on Weds because of our rotation. OUr big guys are finally very comfortable. I like the Abu (FR) and Washington (SR) substituted by Beejay (SO) and Freeman (SO). It got a little mixed up at the end but that seemed to work pretty well for us. Beejay and Coach Gott had a lot of positive interaction too.
I think our guards have finally found confidence in our front court….finally and with reason. Coach Gott is brilliant in Feb and March. He’s a little early this year.
First game where the team gelled. Awesomeness. Rotation is everything. I think we can be this good every night.
DrWuffette1dayParticipantJust got back from Talley- had to pick up tickets for the upcoming Duke and UNC games. A bit surprised ticket distribution was on game night.
Haven’t posted because I’ve been consumed with work and school. Have been lurking on boards periodically when I haven’t been able to watch the games like tonight. I do enjoy the reading and ya’ll.
Been to probably five games this year. We don’t play smart but we look good. Mark that, we have nice uniforms and I am pleased to have Tuffy on our center court. Cat and Beejay were my favorite players in the beginning….I still like them both but Abu has really put us into position to win a lot of these games. When he is on, other players feed off of him. Like the Martin twins too.
Lacey is perplexing. Awesome athlete who sounds intelligent but excels at making dumb decisions on the court. Room for improvement. During the LA Tech game, I have never seen a player drive into the heart of the zone, lose the ball, and then fall down so many times. I thought the McDonald’s ball boy of the game was unfairly being targeted with an extreme workout.
Less on-court nonsense than the Lowe era (Purvis, Leslie, etc).
I think ya’ll have a better handle than me. Seems like we have great talent but just can’t put the pieces together. Frustrating, but then, we are young. I like their attitude when they get fired up but it’s almost like they need an electric shock before every half.
Been near the opposing team’s bench this year and it’s a bit of different perspective. The other teams’ coaches have been calling out our offensive plays. Apparently, we only have four set offenses (I’m kidding – a little). I guess I am not upset because 1) I did not see the game in its entirety tonight and 2) I always feel like this team has a chance to win.
Ya’ll keep doing a great job. I do like to read your input.

Chair at Chapel Hill to Cooperate in Academic-Fraud Probe #52599DrWuffette1dayParticipantAfter reviewing this author’s LinkedIn resume, I have learned that his work history includes Chronicle Intern, Intern at the Tampa Bay Times and Editor-In-Chief at the Daily Tarheel. He listed about 2 years experience at the Daily Tarheel. Yep, he is a tool.
DrWuffette1dayParticipantThey should pay you $2 for taking Monte. He had a lot of teammate talent. I am still nausiated over his coaching effort.

Still happy news.
DrWuffette1dayParticipantMr. Dog, you should be syndicated!! 😉
DrWuffette1dayParticipantYou know a guy is absolutely smoking hot if he can pull off a unitard!! Yes, he did!!
What would frighten me is Anya in one.

Seems like there was some freaky stuff at Hill Library with that happening. I believe an arrest was made too.
DrWuffette1dayParticipantLove parks and rec. BJD- I would list you as a hipster!
Daddio Cowdog wins hands-down though.
DrWuffette1dayParticipantNot here to pass judgment, but, pathetic- all of you. 🙂
04/08/2014 at 5:35 PM in reply to: TJ Warren declares for NBA draft; future of NC State basketball #50952DrWuffette1dayParticipantCongratulationsto TJ! Wish he would have stuck around to win as a top tier team but the ACC POY has to go.
@Rodney- I am telling you for a kid that we had so much trouble getting academically qualified he is coming off as a genius choosing UCONN. Getting good advice on that front. Some kids just have a nose about teams. They have him on the roster but since he is redshirted? I wonder if he partakes. He practices with them. The kid will likely be a starter next year. He is a smart kid. I thought he was one of the brightest ones we had on the floor. He is going pro after his senior year. Interesting @ Louisville. Even with not so great attitude, the kid is a winner.
DrWuffette1dayParticipantDid Purvis just get a NC ring?
DrWuffette1dayParticipantYes, we are going to be awesome next year. (Delete this thread- million dollars.) 🙂
My self-imposed sanction starts now.
DrWuffette1dayParticipantI don’t think I would want to go to Minnesota. That would be hard for a NC kid. I am thinking Butler. The more trips he takes the more he sounds the same and it comes off as insincere- like talking points.
DrWuffette1dayParticipantIt’ll be interesting. I hope the big guy does well. He’s got a great demeanor and I think he towers about 10″ over Hess. My money’s on Danny.
DrWuffette1dayParticipant^+1 and with good reason.
Just got through watching State and Kansas- 86. Wow. They don’t make many like Corch. What leadership as a Freshman. When he was on the floor, that was his team. He even had time to work the refs and change the style of play of his defender. What a great game and fun to watch. Times have changed.
DrWuffette1dayParticipantYeah- you are! (except for the psycho…that was my lame attempt to be funny.)
I am now going to ban myself from this website for 30 days or at least 30 hours.
I’d pay good money to have this whole thread deleted. Ugggh. I really like everybody and am sorry.
DrWuffette1dayParticipantUgggh.
DrWuffette1dayParticipantNo hurtsies. You’re first now after Wufpacker.
DrWuffette1dayParticipantRedcanine- moving up to the “witty one” – enjoying your posts.
Rick/VA Wolf/Bill- you’re all right but add lots more and Wufpacker comes first. 🙂 -
