Inherits a promising department? Really? Lee Fowler was certainly the worse athletic director in NC State history, and I would certainly nominate him for worst in ACC history with confidence he’d finish in the top 5 (something we rarely did in the ACC under his tenure).

This team is a train wreck right now. I had noted we seemed a little rough around the edges prior to the trip to Tallahassee, but had no idea the train would come so completely off the tracks. You know Miami is chomping at the bit to keep the losing streak going in Raleigh this weekend. 3-9 in the ACC after four series would be a catastrophe. Wonder if Yow would pull the plug on Avent one year after a CWS appearance if he goes like 10-20 in the ACC with what was supposed to be our best team ever?? (I think not, but it would certainly erase any program benefits from the CWS breakthrough, in typical NC State @#$t fashion…)

Despite their 0-fer record, I was impressed with App. State. Their pitchers more or less made us scratch and claw for every run we got. Armstrong’s game winner on Sunday was the Pack’s only homer of the weekend. And even though we scored seven runs on Saturday, the first run in that game illustrates my point: Turner walked, reached 2nd on a throwing error, stole third, and came home on another throwing error (can’t remember if it was wild pitch or wild pickoff attempt). Their previous four losses were to a nationally ranked Arkansas team and then to another SEC team…

As an update, we’ve gotten commitment from Richardson, and lost out on Thompson (Clemson). Missing out on Thompson hurts, because I still don’t see a Naz Worthen/Haywood Jeffires/Koren Robinson/Torry Holt/Cotchery caliber of WR in this class (or in our program, to be frank).

I’m not sure I understand Maryland’s standing to sue claiming damages to the Big 10 Conference from the alleged overtures…but i’m not an antitrust lawyer…

With Duke’s big win last night vs. UVa, they will likely stay in the poll this week. What is their midweek game prior to our going over there next weekend?

So noone is willing to spit out the real reason he was let go? I am skeptical that this was an entirely job performance-related decision.

So I was at the game on Sunday and was quite amused at the nickname the folks in my section (evidently all long-time season ticket holders who have been to many games this year) had for Anya: “Yum-Yum” (in a fond way, not a derogatory way). Anya is becoming quite the fan favorite, particularly with the way he outplayed Jordan V. One thing–is it too much for his body to take for him to actually jump when someone is trying to shoot a fadeback jumper over him? Reminds me of Nasal T. Lardbottom in the old Kudzu strip…(talking about the lack of vertical jumping ability).

This whole thing doesn’t make sense…Doeren thought enough of him to bring him with him from Northern Illinois…why fire him after one year, if, indeed, the primary problems with the team this season were personnel (or lack thereof). Is there something else to this that folks just don’t want to publicly discuss?

The only possible reason I could justify giving Lowe another year is because the unspeakable nightmare that will be next season would hopefully be laid squarely at his feet by some of the fans who inexplicably continue to justify his performance. It’s absolutely crystal clear to me that he is in way over his head, but I want to be absolutely crystal clear to a majority of the fan base. (and I sure hope it doesn’t take seven years for that consensus to emerge as it did with Les).

Here’s a truly frightening thought to contemplate: there were still a sizeable contingent of Pack fans who wanted to retain Robinson after year 7. Remember in the famous anecdote, Les received a picture of wolves fighting each other…not a picture of a pack of wolves who have cornered some hapless deer and are about to pounce…
