This is simple to understand. The Martin twins will not get nearly as much playing time next year and most likely in time will not start if they stay. I don’t see it as such a huge loss in talent, it is a problem with depth more than anything. They are not good enough to take us where NC State desires to go, so I say it only hurts us with depth. Abu is smart to test the NBA, but would be dumb to actually commit to the draft. Abu has a lot of development to go, one more year could improve his prospects drastically. We however have to get another skilled big man, and we need one ASAP. We need a better inside game offensively as Anya, Freeman, and Kirk lack those skills and really only provide rebounding and defense.
chriscgrayParticipantI agree that as a whole we will be stronger at most position groups next year. We just have an unknown at QB next year, perhaps we will be pleasantly surprised. I’d also like to see a consistent receiver emerge, I don’t really know what to make of our receivers.
chriscgrayParticipantExactly Greywolf, the mistakes of the past are things we are learning from. Debbie has made a vast improvement in the athletics department. Consistency is what we are trying to achieve with the occasional legit chance to win our division. NC is becoming more plentiful with talented recruits, we need a grass roots movement to garner their attention. Many will want to stay close to home, providing us an opportunity to perhaps rise above mediocrity.
chriscgrayParticipantWe must look at the big picture and not just dwell on the negative. Upgrades are being made in the program. Recruiting, facilities, and a blueprint for success is there. Louisville and VT were disappointments, but disappointments come before success. Our team is young and we are still building, we are fortunate to have Doeren. A lot of football is left this year, but even if it finishes with a 7-5 record we will be ok. Microwave results are simply unrealistic. The foundation for long term success is more important than a couple games or just this season.
chriscgrayParticipantThis really speaks well of the Job DD is doing at getting home grown recruits. If you can’t get the top recruits at home, I don’t know where you can expect to get them. DD has made recruiting a priority and it is a breath of fresh air. This season was simply a disaster on the field, but this year would’ve been a tough year even at best. I really believe DD will be one of the better coaches we have had a State, he just needs his players and his personnel to match his style of play.
