Bill – agreed. A poster who hasn’t posted here in a while once said “progress is rarely incremental”. I think last year, as painful as it was made this team much better than they would have been of we had gone 6-2 or 5-3.
I believe these guys love each other – and that combined with our talent, creates a great combination.
choppack1ParticipantCount me in the group who is thrilled and impressed with Nyheim’s improvement – which has been evident if you were paying attention.
He has ran well in 3 straight games. He is getting better as the game goes on, and he is doing well at avoiding negative plays.
The offensive line has been great in these games too…and guess what, we still haven’t played a “perfect” game, enjoying this season.
Quite frankly, seasons like this are why we are fans for a team like NC State.
choppack1ParticipantBill – tomorrow will be a glorious day of watching football…confident in the notion that for this week, the Pack has advanced and is what every team we will watch Saturday is trying to be: victorious
It’s kind of like watching the NCAA tournament when your team has won. Very relaxing and enjoyable.
choppack1ParticipantNot sure who gets paid and how much. Per the indictments, a 5 Star was worth 100k or 150k
choppack1ParticipantRankings are great, but at this point, they will take care of themselves. We showed last night that we are worthy of a Top 25 ranking. Going into this weekend, we have at least 2 games remaining vs other top 25 teams…Notre Dame and Clemson.
choppack1ParticipantWhat a great excuse for a hangover.
Very happy for DD, staff and team. Indeed, they have shown great heart. Beautiful thing to watch.
choppack1ParticipantWell apparently our pr department is showing why they should be paid in pesos. They’ve given an incredibly weak response on the blackout question that only confuses message further ….but absolutely yells “we are clueless.”
choppack1ParticipantGrey – basically it means don’t leave an lb one on one without safety help in pass coverage. That happened 2 years ago and you can bet Petrino will try to do it again.
choppack1ParticipantRye – here’s what you need to know about college basketball.
High major prospects travel year round starting at a young age. Elite prospects rarely go to traditional private or public schools.
The whole thing stinks and institution have been created to try to bet on these prospects making boo ku dinero.
choppack1ParticipantYes…but one big game begets more big games.
To me, this is similar to the Thursday night game at Clemson in 2002. You lose that game and you fall back into the soup of middle-tier bowl games. Win it and you are part of a national conversation. It doesn’t mean you stay in that conversation, it just means that you’re noticed nationally after the first 1/4 of the season…which isn’t exactly par for the course with us.
choppack1ParticipantGrey – I think that’s a fair assessment.
I think 99% of us want him to be “the man.”
choppack1ParticipantI don’t think the ranking is premature. According to the ESPN power metrics, I think we are top 25. We have earned it thus far (good news), only halfway there (bad news)
choppack1ParticipantThere’s nothing suspicious about a kid picking a better program…which all of those currently and indisputably are.
choppack1ParticipantFunny how the human mind works, we got a huge break playing fsu without their starting qb and after a 3 week break.
We made the most of it.
The rest of this season will be about capitalizing on those opportunities and not letting the bad breaks deflate us.

10/01/2017 at 8:44 PM in reply to: It Ain’t A Train Yet, But The Engine Looks Good…Combo Game Blog. Seriously, Who Uses That Nomer? #124550choppack1ParticipantBill – so you were in the shade? As someone who sits in the shade, I can tell you, the sol es malo. At least it is in September and October…Yesterday, it was awesome in the shade, hot as Haides in the sun.
Again, there are few noon games that I can recall a rocking atmosphere. One of the few is actually the Wake – State game the year they won the championship. We were actually 2-1 or 2-0 going into that game…it was close and came down to our last drive.
I can’t remember if that was the same week as this one or not. But again, definitely a different time and place. And this is why noon games suck. The crowd doesn’t have as much tailgating time and in the early fall, it’s not comfortable- and unlike the cold, you can’t just dress warmer or drink yourself into a warmer state.

Seriously, Who Uses That Nomer? #124524choppack1ParticipantBill regarding the comments on the fans.. I think you have a point. We definitely are a more passive / reactive fanbase for noon games. I don’t know whether the reason is due to pass outs, apathy brought about by heartbreak and mediocrity, generally distracted / less engaged fans or a combo of all of these, but it’s pretty pathetic when that 3rd quarter starts. Most concerning is that aside from the die hard there are a ton of empty student seats.
Of course, the atmosphere should be entirely different Thursday night and quite frankly, great atmosphere for noon games at the Carter are the exception, not the rule.
choppack1ParticipantI wonder how that graph would look when you compare it to high school grads with at least a semester of college.
choppack1ParticipantBoys and girls, this won’t be good.
What concerns me most is the bluest bloods haven’t got caught up in it.
At this point, I just hope football is safe, because if you read the tea leaves basketball ain’t.
choppack1ParticipantThis ain’t good. Adidas school, former Louisville assistant coach…only 3 players named. If some of you guys have a memory like me and peruse on of tos. Oh well, nothing to do but wait. At least we can’t lose no banners.
choppack1ParticipantRye – regarding the ground game, we did get it going in the second half. Even then, it was rough sledding, but the commitment to the ground game payed off at the end…see notre dame, see unc and should have seen Clemson.
These days most competent defenses can neutralize the running game early, but in the 4th quarter it yields huge dividends. We saw that Saturday. 3rd and 7 and Mac state runs for a 1st down when they knew it was coming??? Come on – when have we done that vs a team like fsu.
choppack1ParticipantTexpack – that’s true. You have every right to say it…but understand that you are offending a significant % of your customers. Robert Johnson (former hornets owner and bet founder) had some good thoughts on this this morning on CNBC.
choppack1ParticipantWithout free speech, the consequences are tyranny
Umm. Yep. X10 on College campuses. And yes, this does include klansmen, commies and nazis (of whom there ain’t much different.)
Read that Villanueva apologized to his teammates and coach. Tomlinson (to his credit) had tried to not play the game. Me, I am not playing it either. I will watch NFL, but probably less – I am much more disappointed in our president and media (all mainstream not just one side of it) who seek to divide us and make us dislike one another.
choppack1ParticipantThank you for that last note. Trump is the biggest goon in all of this. These players- like it or not – are much younger, have the peer pressure to participate…I emphasize with their position though I don’t like it nor do I necessarily think it’s good for the league or particularly courageous.
The bravest player in the NFL is unquestionably Alejandro Villanueva for the Steelers.
choppack1ParticipantOL wore down fsu kind of like they did last year to Clemson..this time we sealed the deal. If I recall correctly we did better offensively than bama did vs the noles.
Huge test next 2 games.
