Funny how one game can change opinions so much this early in a career. That’s just where this program is at this point.
The effort, game plan and execution sucked Saturday. BC is huge.
Will we have an aggressive game plan? Will we play inspired football?
This team is definitely young and there are legitimate excuses for the performance Saturday: youth, fatigue, discouragement, fear, etc.
But the team showed little fight. The staff looked just as bad.
The beauty of sports though is that in most cases there is another game and a chance to right a wrong. A win Saturday will get us back on track…and makes it very easy to write the last Saturday off as a fluke.
choppack1ParticipantAnd the offense has been spectacular when it has had to be. Special teams have been solid.
choppack1ParticipantI think we can all agree our 3rd down d needs a lot of improvement. I also think its too early to say where the blame lies. I do believe we could be more exotic and aggressive with our schemes but I have no clue the defensive philosophy of the staff. (Not saying that as an insult, just saying different philosophies will handle these situations differently.)
One note of concern…not sure how many corners we are targeting… We have a ton of safeties.
choppack1ParticipantWe also have the 3:30 on 10-11 vs. BC. I love it. Of course my 6 year old will be with me for that game so it will be different… I had no idea there was a rsn 730 game… What the..
choppack1ParticipantThe USF game was when I became a believer.
I thought the offensive game plan yesterday was spectacular. Defensively, its a tough call. We won’t play a better offense than we played last night.
I thought we were gassed after 1st quarter… Which is understandable.
Great atmosphere. Some of the TDs and the reaction rivaled world cup games. I am thrilled the excitement is back in the Carter. And watching the game last night and the beating he took I joked with my friends that he won the Jamie Barnett award for courage so I agree with the earlier Barnett remark.
Great job by team and staff. Hopefully we can bring our a game.

Impressive offensive #s…hopefully our o will hold up vs. Improved competition…. I hate we have the schedule we have. Our team will be exhausted once BC comes to town.
choppack1ParticipantGrey – just FYI I did 2 entries on a blog rw’s true freshman year…I was a huge fan early on (still am.) I know the staff gave serious consideration to playing him vs. ECU… But d. Evans started hot and I think the staff decided to keep the redshirt rather than burn it.
Not sure what happened his last year. However, I understand how that happens. I am more of a fan of rw than tob. But I do appreciate what he did vs. A UNC team that was cheating its ass off…during a pretty successful run for them.
choppack1ParticipantYep. Those 2 had a crappy record finding them @ BC. And bible didn’t have anything to give rw. Give em credit, they changed their offense around for him. He left his first game on a stretcher and that against Rutgers he got hurt at end of half.
There are plenty of valid criticisms of the last staff…not being able develop qbs isn’t one of them.
choppack1ParticipantGood news is we play Clemson @ 330, I can’t remember a game there @ that time in a while. Should have permagrin @ game time 2 weeks in a row.
choppack1ParticipantYep yogi – but tob/bible had a knack for finding them…I am looking forward to FSU and Clemson game. It sucks that we have a game the week after arguably the 2 best teams in a 14 team conference. We will need our bye week badly.
choppack1ParticipantGowolves – I actually heard that exchange on the radio. My only concern is that this is the beginning of some “tendencies” holding call that the conference loves so much. (Mind you I am not saying we are holding just preparing myself for some important large gains being called back from penalties.)
choppack1ParticipantIf we go 3-5 in conference, unless our opponents have had something catastrophic happen, I think the season can be deemed a success. 2-6 – it would depend on how those games flushed out/our injury situation. I would be shocked if we went 0-8.
I don’t know what happened with penalties last night but so far the team/staff has done an excellent job in the “unforced errors” department. If we continue to be good with to’s and penalties the program will be solid.
choppack1ParticipantGeez Pitt!
Here’s a random thought… If you are a football coach you better not brag about your 6 pack or look really fit if you are going to lose by 29 and give up 70 pts.
Pack tcb tonight.
Bjd – totally agree with you except on 1 point. It ain’t “domestic” violence, its violence period. Friggin’ ray Lewis has a statue outside of the ravens stadium and a couple of years ago Bob costas and the like couldn’t pucker up enough
choppack1ParticipantTj – I agree. I did like how he wasn’t happy @ the half.
choppack1ParticipantI would rather our opponent not be the best team in the country…but I am glad there will be excitement again with wolfpack football.
2-6 and 4-0 against this schedule – depending on how you lose the 6 and win the 2 would be a step in the right direction. After seeing what I saw last night I would hope that we are a much more attractive option in a lot of recruits eyes.
I enjoyed Canada’s play calling. And brissett shows signs of being a “good” nc state qb and that means more here than arguably any school in the country.
choppack1ParticipantWell played. Cow all along I have been looking for tangible sign that we were heading in the right direction. I see last night’s game as a huge sign that we are. I am excited about wolfpack football again.
What I like most about a game like this is that it hopefully it will have the effect of getting our players (and more importantly future recruits) to totally buy into the system and staff. And I think the Carter will be rocking because of this game.
choppack1ParticipantWhat should be noted is that we were awful in red zone last year…..when it has mattered this year…again, wow.
choppack1ParticipantMost impressive performance I have seen in a while…biggest win of dd era. Just fantastic…. Even if USF is gawd awful.
choppack1ParticipantI did think the tackling was good week 1, didn’t watch much of this game. I’d ask coach dd ic the tackling has been good in practice.
choppack1ParticipantIf you want to know why herb continues to be employed you need to look no further than names like Sidney lowe, led Robinson, bzdelic, Bob staak, bob Wade, buzz Peterson, and Matt Doherty.
Herb is competent. He will never knock the cover off the ball, but he will advance the program… To a point.
Our fanbase’s biggest mistake wss bringing the heat on him instead of our baboon ad. Wanting sendek fired while Fowler was ad is like divorcing your wife because she only has sex with you once a month…when there are no are no women under 200 lbs out there. Fowler showed us what suck was..but hey at least we didn’t sweat selection Sunday
choppack1ParticipantLooking forward to game Saturday… On both o and d; as 1.21 correctly notes, if we can’t win this one going away it will be another long season. But at least we’ll beat wake.
09/03/2014 at 1:22 PM in reply to: NC State Football By The Numbers – Post Georgia Southern Edition #55346choppack1ParticipantWatch our red zone %. Last year, if memory serves correct it was one of the one in the college football. Not off to a great start but in 2nd half we had 3 TDs in 4 tries.
choppack1ParticipantIt would be nice if this season turned out like amato’s 1st or moc’s 2nd to last where we eaked out a close win against underdog’s….as for Vegas lines, over time they only show how a team does vs. expectations. In theory, eventually they will include a coach’s strength/weaknesses.
Way too early to see what will happen with season… Last year the high point of the year was the Clemson game. A couple of plays can make a huge difference in a season. In amato’s first year, the team’s built confidence over the year by winning some close games. This team will lose to FSU, Clemson and Louisville… We’ll beat Wake. We will have a shot in the other 4 conference games, especially if we can gain some confidence. We won’t win all 4 but we could 3-1 in them with some good breaks and confidence. A 3-5 mark would be solid progress.
choppack1ParticipantCertainly not, his job is to give the players that he does have the best opportunity to win.We will hae a better idea just how much talent he will need to win when this year is in the books.
He did a great job of recruiting last year but I believe this class is rated low so far…this isn’t a knock on kids who have committed but rather some of the misses we have had.
choppack1ParticipantFor young-ins – they did all right. The d put offense in position to win…my over/under I’d usually 24 points… A good will hold opponent under 24…we did that. 2nd half played better on both sides of ball. Looking forward to odu game and less heat!
