choppack1Participant
We’ll need that Saturday to stop the fb draw on the option.
choppack1ParticipantGreat win for the staff and team. It wasn’t pretty or easy but I am of the opinion that for a non-elite acc team there is no such thing as a “bad/mediocre road win.”
Another win is critical for program to get us bowling.
choppack1ParticipantRed – gone too are Tyler’s assist and low turnover ratio.
Vandy – he’s played well enough that he’s in the d-league. One could argue that With better coaching he’d be in the league. Ticky tack fouls werent limited to vandy during gotts tenure.
Again, aside from having more horses this year – what in gotts extensive coaching career makes you think he’ll have a great or good enough team defensively?
If you think the d will lead us to a year when we aren’t at best a bubble team you are basing this on what we all hope will happen, not the historical evidence.
choppack1ParticipantWe may be good at d this year but it’s foolish to expect it from this staff. I hope we are because this team will likely be his worst one offensively.
Personally, I think we can be adequate defensively if we simply become a great rebounding team…. And if this team is not in the upper half of the conference in rebounding – the responsibility lies with the staff.
choppack1ParticipantWe suck at d because Gottfried allows it. He had some incredibly athletic teams @ bama.
Guess what – I hear herb’s really going push the tempo this year instead of slowing it down…sounds absurd doesn’t it?
choppack1ParticipantGrey – I hope you are correct. You’ve definitely pushed your chips all in. I understand your perspective. I remember the offenses and crazy sets we ran amato’s first 3 years. I remember how effective it was and how fun it was to watch. I thought it would revolutionize the game.
But the key to coaching is to maximize the results. If you look like a genius 3 games, look like an idiot 3 games, and split the rest…you’re no different than your last 3 predecessors.
I hope that dd and Canada are the truth.
choppack1ParticipantI do think sometimes this staff outthinks themselves. So far, their timing and/or execution hasnt been great. (And if you don’t think a career or season can be altered by a trick play…Monte kiffin.)
However, I like the courage dd showed by suspending 7 for this game and I think the team responded well to him taking charge. Schedule definitely wasn’t in our favor but we have a favorable one in the last 4. Want to see at least 2 wins.
I think there is a feast or famine aspect to Canada. At times he has looked like a genius.
choppack1ParticipantBye week is key here. We have 4 games all of which are winnable, but we will only be favored in 1. The fans, the players and for recruiting, we really need to win at least 2 of these games. Win 3 and there will be excitement in the stands next year. Win 2 and I think you’ve got 75% of us between wait and see mode and very optimistic outlooks. Win 1 or worse and I think most of us are in the equivalent of “stay together because of the kids” mode.
choppack1ParticipantWe didn’t/haven’t quit. Proud of team today. We can build off this.
choppack1ParticipantGrey – I agree. I actually loved that he suspended those 7 guys.
Part of me thinks that this staff doesn’t trust their kids enough. I think that they have moved away from the hurry-up to protect the DM..which has only had the impact of killing the o. I think we did the same last year.
I like dd – I think he’s going thru the most difficult time of his professional life. Hopefully, we dont realize the worst case scenario. I don’t think we’re that far off…and I just this one think you’re passionate about defending the staff at what you believe is for the best long term for nc state. The good news is that I don’t dd is SL or lr.
choppack1ParticipantI don’t have a problem with it at all.
choppack1ParticipantGrey – I expect us to lose, but hopefully we won’t embarrass ourselves (again). I hope we win at least 2 games from here on out. However, dd ain’t the first coach to inherit a bad situation. He’ll have more of my sympathy (like that’s important) – if he doesn’t throw his players under the bus.
That said, ain’t no way dd comes back if he goes 0-24….likewise he’ll be gone if he goes 13-0. That’s just reality.
choppack1ParticipantGrey – regarding the contract, those are subject to reasonable expectations. If DD wins his next 5 games and goes 6-2 or 7-1 next year, I guarantee you he’s getting a big fat raise. Likewise, if he can’t win more than 2 conference games in his next 13 – I suspect he’ll be fired.
Look its best for DD and the program at large if he can win at least 2 games this year. No matter how you feel about him if we go 0-8 or even 1-7 this year, next year the atmosphere won’t be good until we win a few game…and the “sell” will be a very difficult one for recruits.
That said -he’s getting a 3rd year unless something off the field occurs.and he deserves it. In the 3rd year if things aren’t going well, things will get very ugly.
choppack1ParticipantAgreed bjd.
However, it will be very difficult to recruit in an environment if we are 1-15 or 0-16 in conference over 2 years. Looking ahead to year 3 it will be difficult to recruit if we haven’t won more than 3 conference games in 3 years.
My main point of concern right now is that we are seeing almost a replica of last years season where we played hyper-focused and out of our heads for our first big game, then the wheels fell off. There are 5 games to change that and give the fans something to excited about.
choppack1ParticipantGray – bs. We’re plenty patient. The fact that we still had north of 45k last Saturday shows just how patient we are… All we’ve done is be patient.
I just hope us fans get a little something for our efforts…2 conference wins would give some indication the on field results can reach the recruiting results.
Dd’s recruiting has been good so far. He deserves a chance to get his players in provided we can finally win a conference game or two… Still 5 conference games left and a chance to build some mo.
choppack1ParticipantThe good news is that the ‘ville’s offense hasnt been great. Then again, they haven’t faced our defense.
choppack1ParticipantI reserve my blind faith for the Almighty… And even that is backed up by some circumstantial evidence.
I am willing to give dd 4 years unless he flunks the “really?” test. That would mean 1-7 or 0-8 and then 2-6 next year. See, this year doesn’t matter, he can only affirm my faith and put a feather in his cap.
Of course, I’d like deb to say “you know, because we have been really bad – we are going to reward you by giving you..” Or at least give me some idea of exactly when she expects to turn this Titanic around.
And dd – you have my tepid support. I think you’d be a good coach to play for..but don’t throw your kids under the bus.
I am being unreasonable when I say I consider a 3 win acc season a success?
Oh yeah, basspacker – tob was 9-15 his first 3 years in conference. (For reference CTC was 8-16 his last 3 years in conference. For additional reference, tob was 13-11 his last 3 years in conference.) I do think dy had to pull the plug when she did. We hired tob inc about 2 years too late in their career to ever get those consistent 5-3 seasons that they could have averaged in their prime.
3 hoppyums in 1 hour…and its like this: the first 2 years dd has had a chance to prove he’s a good coach and/or recruiter. Thus far, he’s recruiting well. I would be pleased as punch if he’s an ethical version of Mack brown at unc…
choppack1ParticipantGrey – did beamer, cutcliffe, et al blame their losses on the players and tell a press conference and anyone listening “we just don’t have talent and/or experience to compete.”
choppack1ParticipantStupid auto correct.
Just FYI – I believe we have burned Vincent’s redshirt.
choppack1ParticipantHe’s a juco guy right? Hopefully we are recruiting some judo dB’s. I think our dl will have talent to compete but of course I thought that this year with teal, McGill and Rose.
Same with Ol. We lose crisp and chandler..not sure who replaces them
choppack1ParticipantGreat pick up. Part of me thinks I just need to take Zoloft or Prozac so we can see where the road ends. He’s accumulating some good talent.
choppack1ParticipantListened to post game PC, don’t like him throwing players under bus which is what I heard. “Just not enough talent.” I am not saying that is not true, but geez.
Oh well. You never want to tell someone “trust me. I know what I am doing.” That’s where dd is. However, I am pulling for him and I hope recruiting keeps on going well.
Thank heavens for that icky woods commercial.
choppack1ParticipantAgree that BC should give us a good idea of where we are offensively.
Regarding 3rd down %, the good news is that improvement in that area will bring some good dividends (assuming our offense doesn’t go in crapper.
choppack1ParticipantWell, I guess there is no argument on our 3rd down d. When you are pretty much dfl in something – you dont just have one problem. Simply put, everyone on that side of the ball is accountable.
10/08/2014 at 1:16 PM in reply to: The Wolfpack Is At A Fork In The Road…Which Way Will They Go? #58350choppack1ParticipantI think alpha summed it up perfectly… I only disagree with it coming down to players. I think it could and should come down to them, but I do think coaching will be a factor when you consider 2 evenly matched teams.
Success in sports is reliant on 3 factors (if you take away officials) – preparation, execution and ability. I think alpha is saying that both squads are in the ballpark in the “ability” area. Execution will definitely be huge…but prep is a big factor as well.
