Sorry I ain’t buying it. I saw times when cat could have pushed tempo but he didn’t.
Even if guards crash the boards they can still get out on the break…its will, stamina and persistence. Heck, cat is usually the fastest guy on the court.
Heck watch great point guards…they push it all the time.
I think a lot of this is cat trying to play under control and not be a ball hog (and stay out of those nasty double teams.)
Heck, from my perspective I would much rather try to score against guys running backwards.
choppack1ParticipantTeam looked great. After being down 6-1, it was absolute domination… Now, can we continue with that level of intensity and execution? That’s the big question, we have nice talent and depth…effort and execution will have us in the dance.
choppack1ParticipantThis is where I think vawolf for giving us fantastic info on the bubble evaluation and seating info. We never go into a selection Sunday and have better info than the idiots who dominate the airwaves.
Unfortunately, we need to be aware of the bubble process…something I don’t see changing in the foreseeable future.
choppack1ParticipantHave a good one here.
In other news, UNC hired former auburn coach gene czik (or whatever) as DC. This is noteworthy because there was plenty of rumblings about his tenure @ auburn.
However, does anyone know if he got in trouble @ Iowa state.
choppack1ParticipantThe sec’s stellar reputation is well-earned.I think ole miss and Mississippi state both kind of fluked their way into the semifinal hunt this year and were emotionally spent by endo of year.
I mean, our stretch of FSU, Clemson, BC and louisville beat us down…we had a nice bye week and plenty to play for after that. Heck, arkansas was playing better than anyone not named bama in the west by the end of the season.
Great to see tech do well. Some of us will always think of PJ as the one who got away, but dd definitely has a better upside!

That aside, I think most of us realize that the season is a young one and we can still get at large bid. There is a couple of key differences here though:
1) Gottfried has a track record of college coaching in major conferences.
2) Gottfried is in year 4.
3) although its been a long time, state has been a player on a national scale in college basketball.I can only tell you that the frustration for me is that I think we’ve reached the ceiling of the Gottfried era…but his performance thus far clearly merits a couple more years to prove that or maintain the results… Results that while not spectacular, are clearly acceptable – especially at this point in his tenure in Raleigh.

Its year 4 here and he was at bama for a long time. He definitely learned the lesson when it came to scheduling. The only real question is whether or not he will slide to one side of the bubble or not. We saw what happened in Tuscaloosa.

Still not sure why though that poor defense comes as a surprise to him. The real surprise for me would be if we defended well for a season. (And I consider defensive rebounding a critical component of defense.)
If you don’t force to’s you better rebound well. We have been consistently bad on the defensive boards and forcing to’s.
Another thing to think of. Teams that take pride in their defense rarely play uninspired.
choppack1ParticipantWe’ll be lucky of this is the same pig.
Can’t panic yet though.
I heard presser and was thrilled by what gott had to say….but talk is talk. And Gottfried’s next good defensive team will be his first.
choppack1Participantjust happy for staff and players. They worked really hard and it’s great to see it paying off. They have earned it and definitely have me excited about the future.
choppack1ParticipantOh hell. The wire is on HBO. 1st season.
choppack1ParticipantWhat’s up with pharoah? Is he hurt? Suspended?
choppack1ParticipantYep. Too many. Hopefully our d keeps on being nasty. BTW – no way Adams held on that play.
choppack1ParticipantOk. Now is when d steps up…assuming nothing happens on this punt.
choppack1ParticipantNot out of these damn woods yet.
choppack1ParticipantRick – he left some ballers, but I think we have a 21st century version of tob…better in the right ways, but still not tolerant of the bs we see 20 miles west of Raleigh.
Like I said in another post, I think things really changed @ Louisville. I think the record shows what a gritty performance that was.
choppack1ParticipantI see $$$ for Dave and deb.
choppack1ParticipantPlywood – watch now.
choppack1ParticipantShad and dayes are a fantastic combo. However, if shad goes pro I replace him with Samuels. All the stud does is make plays…scary.
Love the swagger, effort and execution.
choppack1ParticipantDamn….great half tough break on sack. Oh well. We can still win. We look well-prepped and are playing hard. Jacoby – damn my man is giving it up.
choppack1ParticipantOk – I am confused we are either playing with house money or we aren’t.
Let’s face it, sans the gatech game, our d was pretty damn stout in the 2nd half of our acc season. However, its also true that the offenses of wake and Syracuse were sorry.
Still, I think our d played well enough in 4 of our last 5 conference games to give us a “w”…and for this program, that’s huge. Now, the bigger question to me is how we replace the 3 key seniors on our DL who really upped their game in that same span.
choppack1ParticipantA preferred walk-on has been told “there’s a spot for you on this team, but not a scholarship.” If you aren’t a preferred walk-on you are trying out. Rudy was not a preferred walk-on.
These spots are used for kids who warrant scholarships at smaller schools.
choppack1ParticipantYes wulfpack they do. Heck, our juggernaut last year lost to Central… Another “good” team. But yet, we still were able to get a play-in spot and advance to the round of 64 in the tournament.
Will it happen this year again? Who knows- its way too early to tell. I think if we all want to look at it objectively we know what’s most likely.
Big games vs. Ut and wva this week. Those results will tell us much more than this one.
choppack1ParticipantIt was a bad loss. It means nothing against the backdrop of a 28 game season.
It’s easy to conclude that like the last 3 years, we’re looking at a nervous selection Sunday, another Acc tourney where we have to play ourselves into the big dance and if we do advance, may be too tired to finish the run.
But its way too early to say anything other than we sure as heck aren’t knocking the cover off the ball.
choppack1ParticipantIdk – but it was the right one. Time will tell if this is a sign that we’re nit bound or just another bump in the road.
