We have 9 games left. We need to win at least 5 of those. If we do that – worse case is that we would have beaten wf, BC, vatech and one of Clemson, uva, cuse, Louisville and unc I suspect that will leave us right where we are now…and likely win.

This required a lot of effort and is a ton of data. However, for really to be put into context we’d need to know how we compared to others and how gott compared to our other coaches…but I suspect jigs works for a living!

This year lynch ran it 5 times from the 1 yard line – he scored once.

Methinks the vitroil in the media shows that they were really pulling for seasquawks.

What’s wrong with what he said – he spent 3 or 4 years there?

As for the play call – I was wondering why belichek wasn’t calling a to. Easy to second guess when you aren’t the one that has to make the first guess.

There is no such thing as a bad conference road win.

Gott is a good coach – I don’t think he’s top tier but he’s pretty good. The big question is if he can move the program from perennial bubble to the 4-7 seed range (or better.)

While the problems we so do repeat themselves – and are well established over a long coaching career – he has unquestionably moved the program forward and he deserves a shot to take it to the next level.

Great day of basketball – and I was able to enjoy it.

We have the talent to play with anybody – if we play hard and smart. But…

If there is a more frustrating team in America to watch I don’t know who it is. I swear gatech scores every time down the floor.

    This is ridiculous.

Cowdog – thanks – I usuw have to wait until Sunday for that.

Grey – “disgusted” fits for Clemson game, probably an exaggeration for BC. But the team rallied and the staff and players deserve a lot of credit for continuing to fight…and I am excited about the future of this program.

Yep cow – that’s when things go south quickly for this squad.

    A couple of defensive lapses.

This game is huge Jerry, huge!!!

Gott’s teams have typically played pretty well when their backs are against the wall. I expect we’ll see the same again this afternoon.

Funny – since the departure of v and Sheridan our football and basketball coaches have either shown promise and didn’t deliver, never really showed obvious warts in their second year and we had one coach who left on his own for another job – and he was the most unpopular out of all those coaches.

Like I said, its understandable that anyone has a negative outlook for wolfpack sports. I have gone from optimistic to pessimistic to optimistic back to pessimistic back to optimistic with doeren.

I do think he combines the best elements of tob with a much better personality and an aggressive approach to both game planning. As a result, I don’t have the same concerns with the ceiling that I have with tob. The big question for me was how he’d hold up under this pressure and how he’d and the fans would react to another bad season. I also think he gained a ton of buy-in from the holdovers when he suspended his kids and took a team to Louisville that absolutely played its heart out.

I don’t think its a coincidence that the team won 4 out of 5 games after that game. (And while the loss to gwtech wasn’t a fluke the barrage of 2nd quarter to’s that turned the game were.)

Go wolves – I stated during the 12 game losing streak that I was worried he may have been over his head. (Key item being “may” – its a key word folks who like to twist things around ignore or intentionally miss) I also said that when I saw him interviewed I was impressed.
However, I never called for his head – I reserved judgement the way any rational person would. I don’t call for a coach to be fired unless there is ample evidence the ship can’t be righted…and I always thought unless he totally screwed the pooch, he should be given at least 4 years.

I went all in after south Florida and was then disgusted by what I saw vs. Clemson and BC. I am optimistic again. But I look at coaches like I look at stock – you are a “buy”, “sell” or “hold”. Right now, dd is clearly a “buy” – gott is “hold”.

Funny though – some of dd’s supporters said one or both of his coordinators should have been fired while at the same time making the circular argument that dd still couldn’t be fairly assessed because the team was so young and didn’t have enough talent.

Its a message board and we all get proven wrong. I base my positions on what I see and the past. Dd didnt have track record of a gott or tob or a Paul Johnson. And to add a twist to a famous saying “no one ever went broke underestimating the mediocrity of wolfpack sports (since 1994).

White shoes – idk. If there are other Marshall’s out there I don’t know of them. He killed it in his first gig and is killing it now.

That doesn’t mean that he won’t struggle in the rarified air of a major conference going up against legendary coaches several times a year, but it means his track record is incredible.

As for the first search – you’re correct. Yow went all-in on shaka and a guy like Marshall doesn’t appreciate that. While I can’t blame her for pursuing smart – the cynic in me thinks she liked his confidence and swagger more than Marshall’s – so he was the first choice.

But still – time has shown that both of these coaches are damn good.

One would hope that we didn’t completely burn this bridge with yow at the helm but that’s certainly possible and is a similar miss to PJ vs. Tob.

Look gott isn’t a bad coach – those statements are foolish. He’s close to the top of his profession.

Like I said – a see a very similar pattern to the results of tom O’Brien. A lot of our fans thought he’d win big here…and I think if he’d gotten here 5 years earlier you would have seen better reusults – but I don’t think he would have won a championship.

Likewise, I will be pleasantly surprised of gott establishes us as a top 4 acc team.

But he’s done an overall solid job so far.

As for coach it changes – I can’t understand why you’d look anywhere else but Gregg Marshall first. I don’t want to see him at duke or UNC or anywhere else in this damn conference. I would pay him as much as possible. He’s knocking the cover off the ball just like he did at Winthrop.

That isn’t a very impressive list. Of those candidates, clearly Canada has the most upside. However, his offenses have been very inconsistent this far.

I think he has a great imagination. He’s done a great job implementing a wide variety of formations and teaching them.

I think we’ll miss him. But if I am a Tennessee fan I see his inconsistency and I also see red flags…especially when my squad will go up against Clemson-esque talent on a somewhat regular basis.

Mike – I am not on a ledge. These are the results I expected and its foolish to expect anything other than what we’ve seen so far. However, that doesn’t mean it’s not frustrating as hell.

Jvnm – I actually think the intensity has been there most games this year – it’s the execution that is off. Our guys don’t play solid defense fundamentally…. As a result, even though they play hard, they are out of position, and so they end up following, giving up multiple shots or wide open jumpers. It’s like most sports – at a certain level effort is simply not enough. If you have flaws they will be exposed by better competition and/or those who can effectively exploit them.

Rick – those stats can be misleading. IMHO – defensive rebounding is part of d, turnovers forced and so are fouls…so defensive efficiency is a much better measure.

Pitt – yep. We know what we gott don’t we? The sky isn’t falling, its the same sky as it was the last 3 years.

Jvm4pack – you think those are all just coincidences or are they a reflection of our bad d?

It’s not unusual for a team to have a wtf game every 10 games or so. And that’s what happened last night. However, for gott’s teams these are huge since we are usually one of the last 10 or so teams in the tourney.

I’ve said earlier in the year, you can only be on the right side of the bubble so often before you gravitate to one side or the other. We know what side of it gott ultimately ended up on at Alabama.

I suspect this is tob 2 – you hire a coach from a major conference with a substantial book of work…and you get roughly what he produced in the similar situation.

We were away from it last week, bit we dropped 2 straight… So, we’re on it again.

We have 11 games left. If we win 7 – won’t be sweating selection Sunday . We’ll have a bid locked up. If we 6-5, very likely we’ll be in…5-6, we’ll be sweating it and will need another that usual 2nd AcC game tournaments win. Anything less, we got to win it.

You see rye – it has gotten to the point where I dread watching the big games we’re involved in. In my honest opinion, the officials rather than insure that neither side gains an advantage by breaking the rules, do just the opposite.

A guide to how a referee plans to officiate a game would be helpful. Again, a fan could at least assess how an official was doing if there was a set of objective standards published and scored.

The thing that some of love about sports is that in a society that increasingly seems to remove merit and clear victories – it gives the athlete the satisfaction of an end result. It does that because the rules are published and in theory, enforced.

Why not publish an official scorecard. Instead they seem to say “trust us, we’ll take care of it” and all we get is the same.

Exactly wulfpup – consistency would be nice. Like the say in baseball – the strike zone should be the same no matter who is on the mound and who is at the plate.
