Have we shot a foul shot yet? All that crap about being the aggressor… Untold story… Defensive rebounding. Half court d vs 2 has been very good all year. When you combine that with good defensive rebounding – lookout.

I think we may have found something in chapel hill.

It also should be noted he doesn’t play a lot of guys, so when its clear that you are out of that rotation guys leave.

The officiating won’t change until our leadership calls them out. Believe me, we’ve been politely complaining to the acc office for years about the officiating.

I think the best thing to do is the call them out publicly and question the integrity of the leadership. If that doesn’t yield results, pull the team off the court mid-game. You want to start a conversation… Do that -and then have the university back such a move.

Will that work? I have no idea, but doing things the “right way” and through the appropriate channels certainly hasn’t worked.

Regarding Gott – you have to remember – one of his lessons from his time @ Bama was that he gave too many scholarships to kids who in hindsight (his mind you) weren’t good enough.

What I would point out is that this is an indication of poor scouting and teaching. Anyone can identify the elite guys – but the best talent evaluators identify talent that everyone doesn’t want…and develops those guys.

One would think this season and his time at bama would have shown him that he needs more depth, but I see zero evidence of that thus far.

Rick – go with man-to-man – of course, you probably can’t call it that. If you can get kids to play that with passion, very effective.

Regarding the team itself, they did a solid job today. This year is no longer about making the tournament, its about avoiding a devastating setback and playing well enough so we’re not a bad joke in the eyes of recruits, but rather perceived as a program just player or two away from contending for something special.

I cant watch this game…I hate refs, I hate UNC – better for me just to take the boy swimming.

Going into the season, we had very little depth and no backup point guard.

The departures of lacy and Washington may have been unexpected but they shouldn’t have been. Gott is pretty tight with his scholarships and this is one of the results of that.

For next – again, we need big men and a back up point guard – then we go back to the complaints of being on the bubble instead of a 4 or 5 seed.

Payment rate only really shows 2 basic things – if an entity is serious about finding a good candidate and it can give you input as to that organization’s financial principals.

I don’t buy the argument that NC state is “cheap”. I think we have been poorly managed for several decades and it has taken its toll. Hopefully, that period of time is over.

And that is as blunt as roo can get.

Hate it for Clemson… Basically lost due to an onside kick and one bad pass.

    Great hire. A++++.

I don’t care if this guy isn’t successful, I love the ambition of it.

    Biggest recruit of this year.

Well, we have our work cut out for us. Our guys play hard, we just need more D1 players.

No one has any business insulting the kids on this team, the problem is that there aren’t enough of them…hell, these 6 or 7 bring it.

It’s bad when you feel bad for the kids who have signed with your alma mater.

Gott has to find more skill and depth.

We can’t possibily hope to keep up with wake in racking up talent…. We just have to find the hidden gems they haven’t offered.

Thanks ‘roo – that’s what supposed to separate this board right? Red-faced responses a couple of days after the game are not a sign of being well-adjusted…on game-day, it just means you are a sports fan.

I know this, our guys suit up tomorrow and gott and his crew will do their best to make it a “dub.”

And let’s face it, in 3 of his 4 years we’ve been through this before. As BJD noted – it doesnt look like a great job at all if we run out on a coach after one bad season after exceeding everyone’s expectation the first time. Its gott ball, and it we have seen a lot worse!

We can say a lot more of things about gott but he knows how to field teams with talent and he knows how to keep his teams in the game. The fact that we had a chance to tie Thursday night’s game after being down 14 (maybe even 16) with less than 5 minutes left speaks to that point.

We have seen this before with his teams, but his last 4 had more talent and depth to draw upon.

Is the beginning of the end of the gott era or is it a tic down in an otherwise upward trajectory or is it another season where we squeak into the NCAA as a 10 – 13 seed.

As a wolfpack alum I suspect that at the end like bill Murray says “we will receive total consciousness” – with yow conducting her coaching search like Glenn close in fatal attraction.

Bjd – my concern is that when we make the next coaching search we’ll have like 4 kids on the roster at this pace.

On of Gott’s takeaways from his experience at bama was that he gave too many kids scholies…whom he didn’t feel could help. Truthfully, the problem that I am seeing is that gott struggles in teaching and identifying HIDDEN talent.

He has struggled finding the cj Williams, ilian evtimov’s of the world. And as someone else has mentioned hasn’t signed an effective combo guard since Alex Johnson.

As bjd correctly notes – gott has earned a pass. However, here’s the problem with a past – people remember it and it is fair to be judged on it – whether you like it or not.

And IMHO – that is why you are seeing a combination of apathy and fatalism on the part of our fanbase. If Gott had pulled bama out of the tailspin a few years ago and returned the program to the level he had it at earlier, you would see more optimism. If we had some more inside help coming in, you’d see more optimism.

I hate for our guys – and the staff – these are guys who care. Clearly, Gott is a decent coach – and we have from what I can tell – a group of good kids. Hopefully, they right the ship.

Wolfanatic – I am not going to attack our bigs. They didn’t come to college as great foul shooter or great shooters period.

This is on gott. These kids seem to be good kids (which speaks well of Gott)…but he has to own this roster. I can deal with making the NCAA 80% of the time, but he has to find a way to build and retain depth.

A 43% foul shooter makes both a 90% foul shooter misses both and zebras…we’ll there’s a reason why officials make me forget everything I learn in church.

Poor guys – they are playing hard…but skillset on team is limited.

Gotta love the RBC – 4 straight tourneys in a city of 400k and not a soul in the damn gym.

How bout that..something for freeman and Anya to consider?

    I think he had 25 catches…about 2 a game.
I think I saw in the press release where a significant % of those 25 occurred vs. Our ranked opponents.

Oh well, agua under the bridge now.

Foose – you don’t like the firing of Canada coupled with the retention of hux do you?
Our offense at times hit sendekian droughts. Grinnage would have been a good remedy for this.

OTOH, our d pretty much had what they were expected to have no?

From a purely performance-bases assessment, you do have to wonder how hux kept his job. Unlike offense, he didn’t lose 2 of his key kogs and unlike the offense, the defense didn’t improve.

Unfortunately, looking forward to next year, any wins over a a non conference opponent that is decent will be an upset as will any victories over teams not named wake, BC or Syracuse.

I think it’s “stay together for the kids” until year 5 is over because there’s a high likelihood next year is bad and will bring “the infighting of the wolves.”
