choppack1Participant
Regarding a transfer leaving early – this should never come as a surprise… Kind of like when that divorce’ walks out of another marriage.
Like gott and tob, transfers have a track record. It may work out just great, but don’t be surprised when it doesn’t.
choppack1ParticipantWhen this team keeps composure and rebounds well – it does just fine and is fun to watch.
Mav is much improved and Caleb Martin is improving nicely.
Funny, cat, Abu and the Martin brothers are much improved. With the steps they habe made, I do believe the team is better than record. And I agree with Bill – that the effort has been solid this year.
choppack1ParticipantLet’s face it – gott has proven he can coach. You don’t have the success he’s had if you can’t.
However, where he is struggled is sustaining success and truly building on past achievements. Since he has been in the p5 schools – he hasn’t truly put it together in all 3 of the seasons. Ironically, the closest he has come to doing that here was in his 1st year.
You can infer from the ceiling in his 15 years what you want.
I believe he has us positioned pretty well for next year. But I thought that at this time last year. If, as has happened with Gott in the past, we lose a couple of guys (namely Abu) semi-unexpectedly, then it doesn’t look as good.
I think he does a mediocre job coaching d – something he had a reputation for at Bama. Again, that stuff doesn’t matter – if you win consistently and ethically – only a fool cares about how it looks. Problem is, we have 16 years in a major conference and only 2 of those have really produced upper tiered (read top 20%) results.
Still, as others have stated his results on the court have earned him a mulligan for this year – I would just be more confident if you didn’t have those 11 years at Bama.
choppack1ParticipantBasketball is so much easier when you have shooters. UVa has six guys that can shoot better than our second best shooter.
Well they do get much better shots than we do. And they also defend better than we do. But we do have more sweet 16s.
choppack1ParticipantI think we use the same calculation for our basketball attendance that chapel hill uses for their football attendance.
Regarding the Duke game, why do I think the refs would have called us for either walking or up and down in the same situation where we at Cameron?
choppack1ParticipantCat’s improvement of his 3 point shooting and foul shooting shows dedication and that he’s improving his weaknesses.
About the only weakness he has now and IMHO, the only thing that will keep him from being a pick in the top half of first round is his overall point guard skills. His d has regressed a bit since his arrival in Raleigh but I think most scouts will understand why that’s the case and won’t hold it against him.
choppack1ParticipantWow. Like the TOB of AD’s…” Its NC state or bust for me, after 2 years collecting a paycheck as AHC at UVA.”
Regarding Deb Yow’s coaching search, the end result was fine. The problem was you have to completely ignore pretty much a nervous breakdown in a pc. She’s an interesting cat…solid job on non-revenue sports. TBD in what matters most.
IMHO – she goes almost strictly by personality, not necessarily by the “past performance is indicative of future results” mantra. The good news is that her gut seems to be pretty solid.
choppack1ParticipantThe one thing that is unique about the Louisville incident is that it came up after fall enrolment and they were punished in the same season. I think Louisville’s leadership understands the longer it goes on, the more it impacts recruiting.
I heard Bilas and Mike and Mike blabbering on about this again. The post season bans and scholarship reductions are really the only tools the NCAA has to punish the programs.
choppack1ParticipantGo wolves – he admits he didn’t try to get the fumble on a play that was the difference between his team having a chance to win the super bowl and the game being pretty much over. Probably a very good thing Steve smith isn’t on the team any more.
choppack1ParticipantThat video clip will haunt him alot longer than anything he said in the press conference.
choppack1ParticipantHow do you think Thomas Davis feels about that.
choppack1ParticipantWolfanatic -he is definitely more mature than he was when he arrived in Charlotte. But this was a setback in his development. Still, his upside is absolutely worthy of continuing to support him.
choppack1Participant3 totally different types of celebrations – IMHO’s Brady’s celebration is a quick, demonstrative “Yeeaaa!”, Rogers is somewhat self-oriented but still quick, Cam’s celebration goes on for much longer.
It has always been an intellectually dishonest argument to say ” well, Brady celebrates too and no one gets mad at them.”
It either demonstrates ignorance or something much more duplicitous.
choppack1ParticipantHe is only 26. However, Mike and Mike crack me up.
Be consistent guys – one of life’s truism is that adversity reveals character…and what we saw yesterday was a big reason why some have doubted Cam… And I say this as a cam Newton fan. From the fumble that he didn’t dive for to the post game comments.
Hopefully, he will step back and grow from this.
OTOH – it was good to see Norman congratulating Peyton.
choppack1ParticipantI am looking at this one of two ways:
1. Louisville meant by that was saying when it said it would take fast and decisive action and the academics are clearly in control at the school.
2. They did something really really bad and they are throwing out this small sacrificial lamb in an effort to mitigate the punishment.
Certainly no school has either forgiven or targeted coaches with significant moral shortcomings then Louisville. ( it should be noted that while gottfried had his own issues at Alabama at least it was a couple of years for his termination at Alabama and him being hired at NC State this is a striking contrast to Bobby Petrino or the total pass given to Rick Pitino by the school.
As for the “what about the kids” argument as in most cases it ignores the reality of the situation. Innocent individuals are more often than not damaged when wrongdoing occurs. If the owner of a successful restaurant gets in trouble for laundering money and has to close down the restaurant because of that trouble his employees still don’t have a job. Likewise if an individual is dealing drugs and his children have no knowledge of that or no involvement of that and he is sent to prison, his children pay a price.
Funny how the dolts at ESPN don’t get that.
choppack1ParticipantCat has been amazing this year.
Hey – maybe we can win 3 straight and get on the bubble?
choppack1ParticipantHappy with class. No defections.
A couple really nice late pick ups and held onto Brock.
Solid class.
And thanks dog – no need to insult the guys who did sign. Its a nice balanced class that is addressing some areas of need.
choppack1ParticipantI am thrilled gott did this. They manhandled us last night. Hopefully he is considering taking his team off the floor if the same officiating ensues Saturday.
Officials = scumbags
choppack1ParticipantActually, before I go to bed…the last 5 minutes by car were incredible. We would have like 10 without him.
choppack1ParticipantGeez. That was awful. At least we are within striking distance. Alas, a 5:00am wake up call is forthcoming with 6 sprints, so I will be sound asleep when this one ends.
choppack1ParticipantIt has been fun to watch cat’s development…he is now fundamentally sound offensively. He also appears to have matured a great deal. I think gott loves him like a son and he has responded well to that.
The staff and cat deserve lots of credit.
choppack1ParticipantSo I guess he’s not going our game tonight…. Like a did a week or two ago.
Be interesting to watch us this evening and how we play.
choppack1ParticipantThese topics are on the wrong thread but I don’t give a durn. Va wolf – please keep up the good work. Its awesome and unfortunately until we get off the bubble is absolutely critical for us to know where we stand.
choppack1ParticipantBennett’s last couple of teams have been efficient offensively. Don’t confuse our slow pace which usually results in bad shots with UvA’s- where they rely on the solid principals of good spacing for their shots.
choppack1ParticipantA) when it comes to va wolf’s tourney analysis – just soak it in. He will give you the tools to st the very least, be 10X more prepared than most fans and many people who cover college basketball for a living.
B) BJD – you have said that before and I have to disagree. His approach is very similar to Bo Ryan’s approach and he did very well at wisky. Granted, running up and down the floor is great if you have the horses, but UVA, nor do many other teams in the country have the ability to win that game vs. a Duke or Kentucky or a UNC for that matter.
OTOH – you can look at Gonzaga – one of the teams that plays great offense at a good pace with questionable D – and you see a team that has consistently played below its seed.
