Rye – I will say this – and I like arch too – but especially in today’s game – if you ain’t recruiting shooters that’s on the coach

Bill – agree 100%. This is why to be an effective coach these days you either have to be a dynamite recruiter, a great evaluator of the mental makeup and teacher or a great scavenger.

I think gott is a good scavenger, a decent evaluator and does a decent job identifying character. However, I do wonder if his lack of emphasis / attention to detail / his coaching philosophy limit his ceiling in this or any other era.

Bill – this doesn’t just apply to Gott, it applies to every coach who didn’t get the gold ring, every golfer who didn’t break 80 / par, or everyone that was an microsecond away from his / her goal.

Bill – while what you said is true – it’s true the other 4 seasons, he could have missed the tournament a couple of those years.

But he didn’t – scoreboard. This year – scoreboard. No one questions the good breaks… And when most people do the “what it’s” – they leave out the good breaks.

We have 16 years of data with gott as a head coach. No need to play that what if game. Wouldn’t life be easy if we just got Mulligans?

Shockers fan out of gas today vs. Da U (speaking of coaches who made a final 4 at a mid major.)

Regarding Shaka – I am not a big fan of teams that rely on a full court press. It will be interesting to see how he does at Texas.

I love watching Wichita state play D. They box out, defend the rim, and play great help d…offensively, it’s not as pretty bit they play fast and drive the ball.

We shall see what the second half brings. Arizona is no slouch defensively either and York can get hot in a hurry.

And 6 hours of sleep again tonight.

Yea – but that’s the thing… The conference tournaments shouldn’t create chaos – it’s just more games.

Regarding the NCAA committee – is that open to the public?

Stallings is in that Sendek, Gottfried category… Decent coach, (coach being a combo of recruiting, teaching, gameplanning, managing personnel and scheduling) – but hasnt hung banners and isn’t going to unless something catastrophic / miraculous happens.

Watching Wichita state play is painful… Not because of how “ugly” they play – but only because it’s pretty darn obvious being good defensively is not about talent, but rather effort and emphasis.

It would be nice if the committee used some kind of transparent methodology… Of course, of they did that there would be no need to have a committee, no all-expense paid trips, and no back-room politicking.

Good game tonight though and I am enjoying it.

13ot – as far as I can tell that clock did nothing to make the game better, of course, only an idiot would have thought it a solution.

If you look at things with the idea that a) there should be some type of rules B) these rules should be applied regardless of how you feel…you will just get frustrated. You wont find thoughtful analysis on that network on a regular basis.

It’s nice to get the players perspective and coach’s perspective, but from an analytical standpoint they fall a wee bit short.

Whoah – Tulsa shocks the world getting an at-large bid.

Florida on the dance card looks like a miss as does Colorado.

Wichita state steals a bid. Pitt sweating it out.

White shoes – I would have said the last thing before the last 4 games where they have methodically disposed of a 3-4 seed team (Duke), a bubble team (Pitt) a 4 or 5 seed team (Notre Dame) and a 2 seed (UVA).

I think Kansas is more physical and has more weapons but I don’t think they are as disciplined as the cavs.

    Thanks Chuck.

I don’t think any of us are wanting to go back to Reynolds… Most on this site believe that ship has sailed. I think most of us would like an arena that felt like a basketball arena for NC state for 75% of our home games.

I also think most of us believe that on the scale of challenges our basketball program faces right now, the arena thing is pretty low.

What’s most important is that unc-ch doesn’t win it all.

I would like to see UVA win it all or sparty.

I would be tickled for the aggregation factor alone if Duke, Kentucky or Kansas win it all further separating those schools from the evil empire.

Unfortunately, no one may be playing better in the country right now…and if I had to pick a team most likely to win it all it would be them. (With Kansas coming in a close 2nd.)

I am in the camp that if players want to do this then do it. I will pull for them if they do.

If I was them I would want to play.

Yep Bjd – I think the centennial center would work and hopefully our leaders would realize the folly of trying to couple with the next city / state / county sports initiative. The end result of this soul selling is a soulless arena that while it works for a few games stinks on the whole.

UVA’s arena is nice. Pitt’s arena is a monstrosity that rivals our own (what in the heck is that area behind the benches).

The worst thing you can say about the RBC is this: I have had decent lower level seats and felt far, far away from the action. But you live and learn, like my truck, it’s paid for so ride that piece of crap until it dies on the road or catches on fire.

    choppack1

The problem I have had with PNC / RBC is that the majority of the seats are a long, long way from the court….it’s a hockey arena and that’s painfully obvious.

The other problem is that there are too many seats.

For most games, the atmosphere sucks, you can’t use the Carolina or Duke games as a barometer since we will only have 2-3 of those games a year.

We screwed up – and apparently we are doomed to play in this nightmare for perpetuity.

Adventuroo – she has probably made up her mind for this season… But what happens with the next stinker – or if next year’s squad – without the same excuses squeaks into the tourney and makes a quick exit?

All I am saying is everyone gets a pass for a bad year when it’s the first one. You have another one and suddenly cooks don’t give a pass on excuses.

And yes, Notre Dame owes us a huge thank you! Now they can pay us back by beating the evil empire.

If they don’t go anywhere it’s because no one wants them. Last in the league in attendance by a long shot.
