Wow. I would rather take a chance on someone who’s trajectory is going the opposite direction of Partner’s, but you never know.

    So let’s get this right:
Abu told staff he was likely 2 and done.
Anya and Freeman are gone after this year as 4 year players
There are no other bigs on our roster.

This looks more and more like the situation in football when TOB was fired. However, it may be even worse. We have 8 scholarships on the roster right now (including Abu).

If Abu comes back – and that’s a huge if – he will probably go next year and if you assume that DSJ is one and done, then our staff should be operating under the assumption we have (at least) 9 scholarships open for 2017-2018.

Now, a lot can happen in the next 2 months. However, I would tell you that the “solutions” to our problems aren’t very comforting.

    1) grad student transfers – gone before 2017-18 season
    2) regular transfers – who use a scholarship this year with no playing at all and then will have 3 years available tops.
    3) jucos with limited talent – only eligible for 2 years
    4) one and done overseas superstar centers – if we get this Turkish guy, he is gone. In addition, we are competing vs the blues.

    Nice Bill!

I don’t know if anyone has been listening to Dan Lebatard and Stugatz… They have been doing doing their little looks like tournament:

Villanova was “Jay Cutler looks like the guy breaking into the house on an alarm commercial.” UNC-Ch was Jim Tomsula – “Sounds like a monster a creole grandma comes up with to keep kids quiet. Keep quiet or that Jim Tomsula is comin out tha swamp!”

So much fun watching Nova pull it out. And regardless of how you feel about the heels, you have to be happy with the team who won and watching this scrappy team play…knocking off Kansas, OU and UNC was impressive. They deserve to be champions.

Wow. I think it’s great for college basketball that Nova won. They were smaller and not as athletic, but they played a thinking man’s game and they did it pretty clean.

Box out, move your feet and deny the easy pass…good things happen.

Pardon me, but I am trying to complain about basketball.

Packphanistan – to probably don’t want to play this game with me.

I don’t know what your position is on Gottfried.

I do know that a lot of “pro-active firings” – don’t go the way that the fans want them to. However, I do think the Clemson football (and Tennessee football) are analogous to our basketball situation.

I think the Bowden situation is applicable because be pulled them out of the rut that Tommy West had put them in…but took them as far as he could take them. When it was painfully obvious he would take them no further – he was fired.

Granted, he didn’t have a 10 year stint at another major conference school to tell everyone who could read a record sheet that this was in all likelihood his peak.

I say this as someone who doesn’t think we should fire Gott this year, but as indicated from both his 2nd season here (where he returned 4 starters from a sweet 16 team and brought in 3 burger boys) his 4th season here, this year and his record at Bama – he probably won’t do any better than he has thus far – and of he does somehow, it won’t be sustained.

Gene – I imagine Clemson fans are glad that they stuck with Bowden instead of firing a relatively successful coach and bringing in some no name like Dabo Sweeney. Good thing they know their place or Bowden wouldn’t have led them to the championship game.

True plywood – but it’s interesting that when UVA is running their offense well, which they do most of the time, they got a good open shot, as opposed to our offense the last couple of years where our more talented, highly recruited played makes a contested shot OR we run that baseline screenplay

I have enjoyed most of the basketball… I wish UVA hadn’t fallen apart. They share the ball very well. But ou is fun to watch as is Nova.

For the good of cleaner play I will be pulling for the winner of that game.

Khan – the media’s reaction and perception isn’t important but the coaching community’s perception is very important.

We already have an AD who has a reputation as a ball buster… Now, you fire a coach who has been to the 4 consecutive times and misses the tournament once, well, let’s just say that this perceived lack of patience basically guarantees us a much more shallow pool of quality candidates.

IMHO, this job is much more attractive of there is more than one bad season before firing the head coach. Ideally, Gott would take another job right now.

If I was offered a trade of gott for Bennet, I would think about it for about as much time as it took me to say “deal” !

Give credit to cuse – they hung in there and as much as their bandwagon fans annoy me, they do not call in the same category as others…hell, it’s upstate NY – can be blame them for dying hard with the program with no matter what they do?

Uva I definitely out of sorts. Rick pitino said “your man offense is almost always better than your zone offense.”

Yep – and think – I think that’s where I am. Of course, I can handle a year lie this if we are confident that for every 5-13 season there’s a 13-5 season.

Unfortunately, I don’t have that confidence. Like I said, IMHO, the worst thing that can happen to our program next year is a bubble bid, 8-11 seed, 9-9 / 10-8 season.

For the sake of a unified fanbase – it would be nice if next year is a spectacular success.

Wolfpack – that’s an interesting hire…if you’re Pitt you have to wonder about the lack of ambition in the hiring.

Sky is the limit when a talented team returns its starters and they develop during the off season.

    Think pack – Abu wasn’t a 5 star recruit.

Again, he may not be drafted and he shouldn’t go pro. Those same scouts who have been traveling around to all places already have all the tape they need on him..but again, it just takes one and he’s gone. I said earlier it’s 50 / 50 …but I am a state fan, so those odds aren’t good.

What will be will be. Gott could turn it around. He may not. I am not going to laugh about it, it’s not funny. He doesn’t deserve to be fired. However, I doubt we win a title of go to final four with him.

Thinkpack – Abu may be back, but he obviously WANTS to leave. He is leaving if he is a first rounder or so he told gott who has been caught off-guard by 3 of the last 4 official defections. So, don’t think about this the way YOU want to see it. He wants to go – I imagine if a GM says the magic word – he is gone. I would be more confident if it was the NFL…but this is the NBA where executives like potential a heck of alot more than results.

What do you think Abu needs to know about what he needs to do to be a better prospect. It’s not exactly rocket science. Shouldn’t every player who averaged more than 13 points a game be throwing their hat in the ring by that logic?

You bring up Kentucky – of course they will because none of those guys want to go to college in the first place. Abu, OTOH, is incredibly intelligent – he’s a guy – whom in the right environment – probably wouldn’t be looking to leave at being the last pick in the first round.

Think pack – regarding the nosedive… Keep in mind, I don’t think we are in a tailspin we can’t recover from – it’s just now on the table – where a few days ago it was not.

Keep in mind – at this point we have 7 guys on our roster. Consider Abu gone – he may indeed return, but the mere fact he has thrown in name in the ring and is taking the preparation seriously indicates his true intentions.

We still don’t have a combo guard.

We get one year from DSJ (if we have a good year next year). We lose Anya, Freeman and probably Henderson. If Abu does come back next year, he’s likely gone as well. So yes, the IMHO, the death spiral is a real possibility here.

As others have indicated, Gott’s recruiting is following a similar arc to Tom O’Briens – whom she let got. of course, she didn’t have a crush on tob
