choppack1Participant
Perhaps there are issues???
Of course, there are issues. I say that irrespective of Abu returning… It’s just a matter of this being a dumpster fire or a smoldering tire fire.
choppack1ParticipantAbsolutely cowdog. You gotta be a little crazy to play a lot of sports…and while fear of losing can be a great motivator, fear of injury, well like you said, that ain’t good.
You can tell yourself just to focus, but sometimes the mind overrides. Hopefully, he will be able to overcome it…if he wants to.
choppack1ParticipantDang – that stinks. I am glad he can smile after that…beanings can screw up your eyesight – which is kind of important in baseball.
choppack1ParticipantNot good. I will soon start closely following wolfpack baseball and it will all go to heck in a hand basket.
choppack1ParticipantYea. The panthers have drafted as well as anyone the last few years – like you said, few have drafted better.
choppack1ParticipantModo brew – the statement only applies if that wasn’t Yow’s response. If was an “if / then” statement, that’s all.
choppack1ParticipantFoose – in the 48 hours episode there was a blurb similar to what you described. However, his was not the infamous “amphibious” quote.
Rather, he was with 2 teammate (I think one of them was Corch) – he was asked about the aforementioned Leisure class. He replied that you had to balance out your hard classes with easy ones.
When asked for examples of those classes he replied “history, math and science” or something like that.
Also, in this episode, the 48 hours crew “busted” Kelsey Weems skipping class. They asked him what coach would think about that. He said “Coach gonna be mad.”
The 48 hours then shows just how much times have changed. The “scandal” back then was that these kids were in no way qualified to be college students. The “scandal” now is that these kids aren’t getting paid.
choppack1ParticipantCow – probably just our gang.
I didn’t fire off an email – I am sure she has enough. The wolfpack’s biggest challenge when it comes to me is apathy. In general, I am watching less sports than ever. I didn’t watch much of UNC or Duke games when we played them this year. I watches several of our games this year but haven’t set foot in the RBC in several years – can’t say I missed it.
If Yow’s Leak reference isn’t genuine – shame on the jerk that posted it. But same on me for believing it… As if we haven’t been fooled enough in the last 2 years.
Been a lot frustration here lately – from this to bathroom stuff to president Trump or Shrillary – take your pick.
At times I feel like God is screaming at me, telling me to focus on that is paramount. In general, the message has been heard, but like Josh Hamilton, when I relapse, I relapse hard.
choppack1ParticipantOk. So Deb is saying we are dirty too so no use in complaining about it. If we are dirty I can’t think of anything more embarrassing – it’s like we are stupid criminals or something.
Ok – if that is her position – don’t expect me to make a lot of efforts to get in for kickoffs or after halftime and don’t ever question my fandom again.
If we are going to suck – we should at least be clean.
choppack1ParticipantOne of life’s truism’s is that it is far easier to be successful if you don’t let ethics get in the way.
There’s a good chance you won’t be caught and even if you are, there’s a good chance the person dispensing the justice is either corrupt or naive enough to let you walk. Unc-ch has played the system to a tee. Their faculty and administration would rather have rings than integrity.
As far as what to do about it – I would love for Yow and Woodson to issue a public statement advising we will no longer play them. Of course, such a tact requires that you are fairly pure and not doing anything remotely as shady. Unfortunately, I am not sure that’s the case. (I am not saying it is not, but I can’t otherwise understand idly sitting by Or working behind the scenes – which doesn’t work any better with the NCAA office than it does with ACC officials.)
choppack1ParticipantTau – regarding the transfers. Again, on the whole – I think the transfers into our program have been a plus. However, it’s a fine line with these kids and they have already demonstrated a willingness to walk out on one set of teammates…but as much as Lacy’s departure hurt us – I think Washington’s (combined with our inability to bring in any new bigs) – is what has really set this program back.
We’re discussing some granular differences here. I am saying we used too much salt, you are saying we don’t use enough pepper. I think we both agree that after a couple of years of making decent food, we got a lousy meal in 2016 – and while hopeful, we are concerned about getting more bad ones in the future.
choppack1ParticipantGood discussion here.
Regarding the assistant coach hirings – they seem solid but neither appears to have come from great college programs.
The moves smell like a deb Yow suggestion. However, I am not sure if they will / can yield the necessary fruit.
Time will tell.
Regarding recruiting – it was definitely solid up until last year… But riddle me this – how do “solid” classes end up leaving us in such a pickle these last 2 years.
The truth is that because of our defections we were always on the cusp of what finally happened on 2016 since Gott “arrove” in Raleigh. We are in a similar position for 2017.
My analysis of his classes led me to believe that Gott wasnt signing enough guys to be able to withstand average to above average early departures – that are just part and parcel of the college basketball landscape these days.
Also, his reliance on transfers really exasperates this. In general – the transfers we have brought in have helped the program. However, these kids allocate a scholarship even when they don’t suit up. Again, this is fine if you don’t have a high early departure rate and / or your roster is usually highly talented – but we don’t fall into that category.
Hopefully there’s a philosophy shift ongoing and we won’t see what we saw in 2016 again and we will move away from isolation and improve our defense.
choppack1ParticipantFoose – when did you see it?
44 rules says it was after a Umd state game – I watched a lot of basketball and will put my memory against anyone’s. I don’t remember it – I remember an incident which could have caused the issue, but I don’t remember the comment.
And the funny thing – when this topic comes up on State boards – you will see 10 different people aware they heard it after 10 different games.
choppack1ParticipantCd – that sucks. Put our pup’s/ buddys companion down last June…that was tough, but I knew we had given her a good life, we knew the end was coming any day and she died in the arms of someone who loved her – we should all be so lucky. Still, I bawled my eyes out.
However, when the the buddy passes – which could be any day – I will have the same feelings you do today. Peace be with you and with your companion as well.
choppack1ParticipantThanks go wolves. Shows where my deviant mind is.
choppack1ParticipantGreat to get a road win.
Gowolvs – i am guessing the sights are incredible on this late spring day. And all I can say is if I wasn’t going to church I would be on my 10th beer right now. Got my check list done early… Would have been a good day for smoking, but alas that window has passed.
choppack1ParticipantGreat pick up for the football staff. Lots of bodies on OL – you have to believe that will pay dividends in a year or two ( maybe not for this pick up, but in general, and I like the focus.)
choppack1ParticipantIt’s these kind of shenanigans that can bankrupt an athletic department or make something seem very amiss.
choppack1ParticipantYou gotta like any balmy spring night…just got back from walking the dog with the wife and kid, it doesn’t get much better, unless of course, I could have another libation on the deck or side porch while listening to said game (assuming we don’t have a speith-esque meltdown.)
choppack1ParticipantSilly me, I went off on someone who said PR was a megalomaniac…. As for hc, given the right resume, I wouldnt be opposed. Note: the right resume is NOT one of worst records as a hc in professional sports and no college experience.
choppack1ParticipantMegalomaniac? Really? Like every other NFL QB, he is absurdly rich.
I think he absolutely has an ego – but name me a starting NFL QB that does not.
I don’t think he’s the former NC state qb with delusions of grandeur.
choppack1ParticipantThe only problem with a spring game – does the player look so good because of the quality of the competition?
Also, qb can’t be hit so that’s another issue. I have made this game more than I have missed it. However, timing this year wasn’t good.
Any other thoughts on the game?
choppack1ParticipantWulfpack – everything in context. You want to look at the assistant’s book of work. You don’t want an assistant with little exposure to winning teams who just keeps hitching himself to broken wagons. OTOH, if you see a guy who has thrived and is good at what he does but he didnt get off of the sinking ship due to principal / loyalty or something unforeseen, that’s an entirely different story.
choppack1ParticipantWorse yet, spell check automatically corrects his name.
choppack1ParticipantAn assistant who is fired from a school along with the rest of the staff isn’t cause for concern.
A Head Coach fired in college for performance is. Gott’s situation at ‘Bama was complicated by off-court issues. However, it wasn’t a case like Bobby Petrino or Larry Eustachy where it was clearly off-court issues.
A successful college coach who goes pro, then doesn’t find success in the pros, and then returns to the college game is NOT cause for concern.
Lutz and Pierre have excellent resumes for assistant coaches. They would probably be solid hires for mid-major and below Head Coaches.
