Whew!!! So glad that the bulldawgs pulled it out.

Fedora is a first rate jerk.

I really, really want our ad and our chancellor to publicly say that we are competing against a school down the road who will do anything to win and that the only reason we are playing them is because we are contractually obligated.

    Kaylee Harting. Yes!!

Now to the nightcaps. It’s all gravy from here on.

Hates to see LSU lose to whiskey.

Ugly game that suits the weather. You have to wonder if the vast majority of teams have figured out the tech offense.

BC’s d looks stout. Their offense again looks miserable.

Good crowd. Perhaps all of BC’s games should be played in Dublin.

The true tests are coming. Overall, I saw good things. I also saw things that concern me. However, objectively, you have to realize that its one game against a vastly inferior opponent. You have to believe that just as you didn’t see every weapon in the arsenal, you didn’t get the resistance you will get against better opponents.

Yogi – I didn’t notice him. Of course, that doesn’t mean much.

I will say this, I was glad that the ol was able to manhandle a team, because that hasn’t happened consistently for the last 15 years. (One notable exception was not being able to punch it in from 1 yard line. Apparently, we may need to consider McClendon in those situations.)

I give the crowd a pass. I think we were all waiting for the storm that never came. We can’t say we haven’t been snakebit by the weather before.

Adventuroo – I agree with your post. Like grey – I think the weather forecast played a major role in both the attendance and mellowness of the crowd.

Like others, I was disappointed in how easily w&m drove for a td on their first drive. However, the d equipped themselves well thereafter.

Finley looked solid and steady. It’s worth noting that he hasn’t faced adversity yet (at least in red and white).

McClendon rode the pine after an ill-advised pass. He looked much better his second drive. He clearly has attributes that Finley does not, but he simply can’t make the mistakes he made last night.

We have some nice young talent. Moss and Harmon looked good, Frazier looked very good as well.

On D, our dl as expected, was dominant. Looking forward to watching McCloud…(21) ; he has the size and appears to be a playmaker. I won’t be surprised if he cracks the lineup.

Fun night. Solid performance, glad the weather held out.

Nice grey – either you have the memory of an elephant or you keep an nc state media guide close by.

Gotta love the start of college football.

In case some are interested, conference records of those NFL Qbs are as follows:
    Rivers – 17-15
Wilson – 11-13* (this includes 2-6 stint year when his oc had leukemia), without it he was 9-7.
    Glennon – 8-8
    Brisset – 6-10

So in 11 seasons, you had 3 losing conference records.

How did we do when Roman Gabriel was qb? I know Kramer didn’t tear it up his junior year record-wise. (He was a juco if memory serves correct.)

Yogi – I think there’s plenty of evidence that he has taken the long term approach from a character development perspective – the stern, but fair “justice” he has rendered in the bb gun and moped case show just that.

Again, I place that in the “encouraging” category. I place the record in the bad category. Right now, character Trump’s the record…going forward the record becomes more important and provides de facto evidence if he is capable of succeeding at this school in this sport.

In some ways yes, in other ways no.

Every recruit is different. If I was an elite recruit, state wouldn’t make the cut. uT (pick which one), bama, uga, Clemson, Florida, LSU, tOSU…. check. OTOH, choosing between state, Duke, KY, Vandy, cuse, BC, Pitt and WVa, well you’re definitely in the kill zone especially if I believe in the coach and his staff.

Look, DD has a tough job – he is going to have to be one of the smartest guys in the room if he is going to succeed here. Talent-wise, we will likely always be behind the 8 ball vs FSU, Clemson, VaTech, Uva, and Miami. Gatech is a bit of a wild card – as is UNC-CH. Regardless, most years we have had the talent to stick with them.

I just hope DD is our Beamer. I think he can be, but I don’t think it’s an unreasonable position to say that DD hasn’t proven he will be successful yet.

Look yogi – I made those same arguments with Mike o’cain. I learned my lesson…this doesn’t mean that i don’t think that DD can’t turn it around. I believe he can and I believe its better for the nc state program if he does.

However, let’s not act like he has proven beyond a reasonable doubt that he can succeed in this level.

You want to know the last time nc state has gone 4 straight years with a losing conference record? Unless it happened with Earl Edwards or I am missing something (always possible) it was before 1950.

Think about that for just a second…

I wonder if folks would have wanted “the general” to have another year or two to get the program up and running. After all, he did leave Sheridan with Kramer, Peebles and Naz. Not sure if Ray Agnew was a carryover. Pretty sure fred stone and billy ray Haynes were.

However, that was definitely a different era. If you could stop the run,you had a damn good record. And his teams were ahead of the game since they ran option and passed. Those same elements just aren’t in place today.

Look, DD definitely needs more time. Hopefully, he will get it. However, nothing on game-day that I have seen thus far indicates that he will break from the mold to the positive. (Unlike our last 4 coaches he hasn’t had a .500 record in conference in his first 3 years.)

However, I am a believer in that sometimes things are better ic they hit rock bottom…and they certainly did in 2013. Hopefully, breaking out of the mediocrity will be two-door.

Has one poster here stated that they want DD fired now or after this season?

I think the vast majority of wolfpack fans are of the opinion that unless this season has a similar record to year 1, DD needs and deserves year 5.

I do think there are positive signs for the program, but there is also the reality that we haven’t beaten a P5 team that finished with a winning record.

Imho, this is a Missouri year for DD. The fans need a statement win and overall solid season to keep the atmosphere festive. We all pretty much know he is getting at least one more year.

He is the type of man I want representing wolfpack football and I hope he is here – thru merit – a long time.

As for the comparison to various coaches and the all you need is time argument, I think each case is different. One thing is certain, the longer a program stinks, the more toxic the environment gets.

And I saw Andre Brown play in state championship and it looked like a man playing with kids.

He sometimes looked like that in college

While I am not one to call out players who haven’t done an other than live up to our expectations….I do think it’s certainly fair to note that Frazier wasnt able to finish it off like ta, Andre brown and our current Samuels.

Note that another highly touted back who had a star-crossed career here (but was nothing but pure class during his time here)

Let’s face it, we are competing with the scum of the earth. Give Doeren’s credit, he is a decent man who is trying to develop young men not just win football games.

Great post jb34. Enjoyed it. While I don’t agree with the percentages, I think the overall record is about right.

Yep. Getting excited. Interested to see how this year goes.

Qb is the big question mark. I am hoping McClendon or Boise guy can make the decision easy in a positive way – see Harrison Beck for the other way to determine a starter.

If our “leaders” and I use that term very lightly and the surrounding communities wanted NC state to feel like something other than a commuter school, they would make sure that nc state students and employees had a place to play within walking distance.

I don’t know if the recent growth of Glenwood qualifies. Nor do I know if downtown Raleigh does qualifies either. I do know that whenever centrally located party zones arise, the campus either actively shuts them down (Brent road), tailgates, or appears to quietly let them die.

I can’t blame them. After all, it’s much easier to accept our athletic futility and pull for the neighboring schools when you dont have an emotional connection to the school itself. And if you are a commuter school, the after action activities of the students aren’t your problem…you just want their money for tuition and books.

I don’t think the staff will take ecu lightly. There is no evidence to suggest that they would.

I am hoping for a special year, which is 5-3 in conference. A 4_4 in conference year is a solid and would be satisfactory. A 3-5, well, it would depend on circumstances and ooc.

And cowdog, since you brought up the field hockeyians, I will just say that at least for a couple of nights, I would be willing to comfort the Russian swimmer accused of juicing. After all, she has already shown that she’s loose with society’s expectations.

Mitch’s just shows you what longevity and location can do.

I have always found it overpriced, the food mediocre and the service barely tolerable, but yet I want to go back.

Don’t get me wrong – I have visited pr several times in the last 10 years – so I have been in the area. I hope I get another chance to visit.

Also, this should not be confused with the sport that was popular in the 70s and 80s. I imagine we have some on the board who were pdg at it.

Ruffles – that would be because we have football and basketball.

This sport just kind of reminds me of dodgeball.
