choppack1Participant
Regarding the hate crime spike – that’s absolutely something to keep an eye on. A lot of what I am seeing here in the news is unsubstantiated and cannot be substantiated, and some of it has already been proven to be untrue.
Still, I am watching it. I don’t want to live in a country ruled by bullies on any side of the aisle. (And they exist on both sides, some of them are commissioners of the NBA, NCAa and the ACC.
And this is also why media bias is so harmful and dangerous. Living here in North Carolina – I can tell you that the way the media has handled the bathroom issue and the legislature in general, is borderline maliciously partisan. It is literally so bad, I have a hard time believing anything that can’t be substantiated
Now, at a time when they need to be believable, there no more than someone who has lied to me several times on the past…they may be telling the truth , but I have zero confidence in them.
choppack1ParticipantIt is a reflection of our mediocrity and also the dual abc games (one @ 1230 the other 330).
There have been some decent 1230 games this year – fsu-louisville comes to mind.
I think that the 1230 game may be driving some of this. Not sure but perhaps there was a better time slot before the advent of this.
While I prefer 330 or later, I know how to tailgate for a 1230 game..and it leaves you with the opportunity to enjoy the 8pm game and be ready for church next morning.
choppack1ParticipantIt will be interesting to see what happens with this team.
We do have to take a long view of this squad.
However, the only reason I bring up the lack of turnovers is because this has been a trademark of gott ball. The good news is so is making the tournament.
Like I said, I am looking forward to this year if only because it allows us to get an idea of Gottfried’s ceiling.
choppack1ParticipantThus far we are forcing an average of 10 turnovers a game, good enough for 290 out of 334 d 1 teams.
choppack1ParticipantYep, I don’t want this to be Alabama Duece…where you have a team that looks great walking on the court but plays the game with the joy that one usually displays while being audited.
choppack1ParticipantWhiteshoes – that is my concern as well.
That said, the year is young and we are integrating pretty much an entirely new lineup. Of course, this being 2016 – that’s pretty much how half of the elite teams play these days. We have seen what Gott is capable of with decent talent, but we haven’t had a chance to see what he can do with elite athletes that he has chosen.
To me, this is all about answering the question of his ceiling. Likewise, if Dd can win one of his next 2, it will reveal same about our football coach next year.
choppack1Participantthose of us who have suffered through 8 long years of someone who REFUSED to seek middle ground with ANYONE who did not agree with him
This. Nothing like being told we must compromise by those who have refused to do so and called folks names for last 8 years.
choppack1ParticipantI don’t disagree….but do you really expect it?
State has a lot of different pieces this year and Gott will have to figure out how to put them together.
Yea. Unfortunately, I have my suspicions… however, the big question is can we be good enough to rebound slightly above average and create more to’s than we have in thd past.
The talent is there.
choppack1ParticipantBig win for DD. Should be able to tcb next Saturday bjt regardless, it sets up an enjoyable week if basketball holds serve.
choppack1ParticipantDD declines to push them 15yds deeper into their end of the field…
Given 2 options, Dave demonstrates a remarkable talent for choosing the worst option.
If ever anyone should subscribe to castanza’s philosophy of doing the opposite it is he.
choppack1ParticipantI meant to add that 3+5 was a record that would fail to generate excitement but probably need Dave around for next year. Without this game, that looks unlikely…and a loss here represents a collapse of sendekian proportions and deb shouldn’t make us relive that crap again.
choppack1ParticipantDefinitely Bill – going into the year, my thoughts were that this year it was all about building a foundation in terms of success kn the field and at least one program defining win for the fans to generate excitement for next year.
My assumption was that we would go 3-5 in conference at worst. Imho, firing Dave and replacing with kitch should be strongly considered if we lose this game so there’s at least some excitement for the u and going into next year.
Hopefully our guys pull it together for the next 3 and give us fans a reason to go to Charlotte next year.
choppack1ParticipantInteresting comments. I didn’t see or listen the game, but this game kind of fits into where I thought this team would struggle.
It sounds like we settled for a lot of 3s and didn’t make a lot of them…which probably shouldn’t surprise us because quite frankly, we didn’t make a lot of them early.
Again, in order for this team to break out of Gott’s ceiling, they will have to rebound better (which they didn’t do last night) or create more turnovers through better d.
Kapita will help and I think Yurtsven will help a ton giving us better ball movement and I chance to run that high post offense.
We can’t get too down on this team (that’s coach’s job)…first game in a long season for a team braking in a lot of new players and we gott the win. Can’t win em all without winning the first one (and ga southern may surprise some folks)
choppack1ParticipantThese kids are so predictable:
If NC is any indicator – the media and the government sponsored protest class – will ignore any good and jump into full action.
And just give the media time…
choppack1ParticipantCow and others – my wife and I cancelled each other out with our write in votes.
Like Alias, I enjoyed the pundits disbelief – especially those @ NBC and George Stephanopolis @ abc and John Harwood and Steve Leisman @ CNBC.
The fact that these folks hold the positions they do is disgusting and it’s exactly why you are looking at President elect Trump…and these morons still don’t get it.
They will still have the last laugh. If NC is any indicator – the media and the government sponsored protest class – will ignore any good and jump into full action.
Here in NC – pretty happy with results. Pubs kept their super majority and Cooper and his AG won (with help of some Durham stuff).
But regardless – everyone needs a bone to prevent disenfranchisement…and I have heard Cooper ain’t a bad egg, so I kind of hope the result remains – unless true justice prohibits it.
Hopefully, Trump will be as decent as his children and businesses seem to indicate. And fwiw – alot of us felt this way when the current potus decided to either lie or proved he was too dumb to be in office when he said “if you like your plan you can keep it.” Then told the “other side” – shut up. We had an election and you lost.
Hopefully, the duck shows more decency and diplomacy than that.
choppack1ParticipantFinally – major props to Kirk who is biggest surprise thus far. Great fit for this team. I hope he keeps minutes and keeps up high level of energy..he remimds me of the Sidney Lowe recruit who transferred and ended up @ San Diego last year (Ricky Davis?)
choppack1ParticipantOverall good game from what I saw.
Areas of opportunities for individuals:
DSJ – watch the to’s and fouls, work on foul shooting
Yurt – work on screens and keeping ball up high.
Abu – concerned about touch
Abu and Anya – look for the ball
Mav and Henderson – feet set, square up.Great Improvement from game 1:
Henderson
Dorn
MJ – 6 assists, zero turnovers!!Areas of concern for team in general:
– perimeter shooting – it will be tough for us to play small ball if we can’t shoot from the outside.
– Defensive rebounding and to’s – this team absolutely thrives in transition, it will be critical for the team to continue to force turnovers and rebound well to effectively get out on the break.Overall – like the intensity and seeing pressure D. Love seeing lots of guys getting pt. Love the sharing of the basketball. Looking forward to real competition.
choppack1ParticipantBill – if memory serves correct, we were leading by 10 in the 4th when that started.
The move e chain reference is to the ” move the chain, move the chain, woo woo woo” chant that seemed to get popular vs ga tech in 2002.. the game went into undefeated and were controlling the game until a false start nullified a 3rd down stop for us. We have never been that close since.
choppack1ParticipantYea Bill – your observations were spot on…and I don’t know about you, but it seemed the game turned when the fans did that little light routine with the cell phones. (This may go down in history at least in my mind in enfamy like the move the chain chant that I remember getting popular at the Georgia tech game.)
choppack1ParticipantIMHO – it only makes sense to hire Kitchings in an interim role…the window for them to do that closes with every game. A loss to Syracuse would actually be the perfect time to make such a move…it could also happen next year or if it happens too late in recruiting cycle to find a coach with an established record as a head coach.
The passion for Kitchings is based on the hope that he will be our Dabo. It’s classic projection / wish casting. But, if you like some of the things this staff has done (like I do) – you see the value in giving him a shot in some interim fashion.
choppack1ParticipantRye – I think we may be reaching a point where a change is unavoidable.
If DD can’t recruit and / or excitement is such that there will be a serious decline in attendance, then their hands are somewhat tied.
I meant to say this earlier – but I cannot recall a night game of any kind of importance vs a road team in the Carter being so quiet for a game that was tight up until the end.
I mentioned that even before this game I have seen a reduction in tailgating – and the students have been MIA almost the entire year (in the end zones.)
Deb and Dave can’t be encouraged by this mutiny. It is the kind of apathy that forced TOB out. Of course, DY didn’t like him and Dave is her guy, but still…
choppack1ParticipantFrazier transferring makes sense. He hasn’t gotten a lot of pt – but has looked good in the playing time he has has.
What is more important to me is the answer to the “why” of the transfer…same would be for Moss as well.
If it’s simply sour grapes that’s one thing, if it’s -” I have lost faith in the organization ” – that’s entirely another
choppack1ParticipantAgreed on the last 2 plays basspacker. I wondered why we weren’t attacking the middle of the field in at least one.
Oh well. Brutal season. As frustrating as I can recall.
choppack1ParticipantActually roo – i am with you on this.
I see a program that is so painfully close…we just can’t get over the hump right now.
Put it this way – we went against arguably the best back in college football – and this team decided to abandon the run.
If I felt our players were thugs and malcreants I would dd showed tha door. If I felt we were miles away – the same.
I believe we are oh so close to building something strong and sustainable…but I don’t know if this guy ever gets us there.
The sender comparison is apt. And lets face it, given the futility of the years that followed and our history of outcomes in “proactive” dismissals – maybe we should hope he hangs on.
choppack1ParticipantWhiteshoes – I agree.
I also thinking that Yow thinks a lot of her “gut” / “instincts”…I can dig it, but unless you habe been on that cauldron and locked room – it’s just a guess – and quite frankly, even a lot of guys who have been there get fooled. But if you haven’t, perhaps, shelve the instincts and go on data.
