We will have to defend and rebound better that is certain.
However, the desire seems to be there with this team and that’s a large part of the battle. And I do think Kapita will help our rebounding. Be interesting to see what happens with Mav.

And I am seeing why I can barely watch basketball. Refs are going to allow holding, reaching and pushing and our guys can’t do that without obviously fouling.
choppack1ParticipantI watched pretty big chunks of both of them. But those weren’t good or well-balanced teams.
If a team is well-coached and skilled – they will rip it apart. There’s a reason only 1 consistent power consistently plays it – it takes a lot of time, communication and discipline.
Our zone d yields easier shots than our man to man, we tried against Creighton anf they ripped it apart if memory serves correct.
choppack1ParticipantRegarding the zone, the one thing that makes our man to man look good is our zone d. It gives up more offensive rebounds and open 3s.
Teams that move the ball well -which Creighton does – eat that stuff up. OTOH, it is probably a good d against us.
Give these guys time though. It is a young team and is still in the infancy of developing chemistry. The team ready to throw down together was an excellent sign.
choppack1ParticipantState red – I thought Creighton looked great last night. They are obviously a very good team AND talented. Right now, we are just talented. I suspect our d will improve as the year goes on as well.
And definitely want to avoid any seed worse than a 6. (That’s kind of my line in the sand for this squad.)
choppack1ParticipantDefense not as much as issue in this game as some might think….
Creighton gave up 95 points….
Yep – true about our points, but disagree on defense. We allowed Creighton to shoot 60% for the game, 66% in the second half. That is only a little less than the “par”for foul shooting, which of course occurs without any defense.
OTOH, we shot under 50%. That’s why we lost. They got better looks because they were playing against our D, we got more contested looks because we were playing against theirs.
They played very fast, but also moved it around very well.
The good news is that we didn’t give up a lot of second shots.
The bad news is that the missing guys won’t likely help our D a ton. We missed what they could have brought on offense, but I dont think our offense can overcome that inconsistent execution defensively.
choppack1ParticipantPackofmac – I don’t know.
Creighton plays fast, smart and plays decent defense.
Gott is a good coach, but I don’t think he demands the attention to detail every second the elite guys do. Hey, the truth is sometimes that gets old. Bobby Knight’s last few teams eventually broke down. So do a lot of coach I’d teams.
I have already said it 3 times and I will say it again – to me, this is the year when gott shows he can get us there or not. hopefully, this wasn’t Oklahoma state part duex.
choppack1ParticipantWe are young and missing some players, but don’t expect the d to change. That has been a constant.
Still, this is a good experience for these guys. They need to understand how high a level they need to play. And Creighton is durn good, this Patton guy will be a first rounder too.
choppack1ParticipantDetails, details, details botb.
choppack1ParticipantYes. That would T classic nc state..to assume Strong’s success at Louisville in a hemorrhaging conference would transfer to nc state. Heck, when he had advantages at tejas he couldn’t equal his older predecessor. Sound familiar?
choppack1Participantpack84 – I hear you but I am just trying to figure out what coach worth his salt is going to be worried about being fired after 2 years by a new AD. I mean in order to do that he’d have to go 0-8 in his first year or something. Oh.
But seriously, again, if he can beat UNC and somehow beat a decent team in the bowl game, but if he loses to UNC, I just don’t see how any rational person can say “let’s keep this guy.”
I will tell you right now, if we lose and keep Dave, it will be pretty much a break even due to loss of ticket sales and C-F revenue during the year.
I have said it before and I will say it again I have never seen C-F so dead as it has been the last 2 games with a lot still at stake. Close calls or not, the fans are speaking pretty loudly and the students are screaming at the top of their lungs.
choppack1ParticipantIf she is smart (which I know she is), you give those worries to the next AD. Not because you are lazy and don’t want to do your job, but because the new AD will want to select the new coach (ala ECU, UNC, etc.)
So. Let me get this right. The best thing for Yow to do for the over good of the athletic program in general, and football specifically, is to let DD coach until a new AD is named 2 seasons from now?
You have got to be kidding. We have a coach who has won 3 conference home games in 4 years.
In case you haven’t noticed, the students have already bailed. Next year the talent looks pretty good, it looked good this year and was capable of competing with 10 of 11 opponents. However, recruiting has gotten consistently worse – I see nothing responsible, honorable or intelligent about giving the next AD a raging dumpster fire like all indications our program will represent if the next 2 are similar to the last 4.
You always look for those who deviate from the mean for your best evidence…DD has deviated but not in a good way.
It doesn’t matter what I think, and who knows next year we may make cosmic jump and go 5-3… irrational hope springs eternal.
choppack1ParticipantPlywood ; it makes zero sense. I
choppack1ParticipantAgain – all evidence indicates that he should not be, unless we are trying to have him break Tom Reed’s conference record.
If we somehow beat UNC – I can see saying wait for a year, but I don’t see how he keeps his job with a loss.
Funny, if you were a freshman, all you have known is dave Doeren. He has a 3-13 record @ home. The good news is that going into friday he is 5-10 on the road.
choppack1ParticipantIf the goal is making dd seem like a great coach, please ask for Charlie strong. Good grief. That would be epic stupid…but we are nc state.
choppack1ParticipantAnother day with apathetic fan attendance and noise… especially obvious amongst the students.
More blown opportunities another “close” loss.
If we lose to UNC there is no excuse whatsoever to allow this show to continue. The atmosphere will be the worst I have seen in my lifetime.
choppack1ParticipantBjd – calipari’s teams play pretty good d. Roy’s teams play fast.
I agree with xphoenix’s defensive observations.
Last night we did force some to’s. Amd I agree with you bjd – Gott’s best teams have been adequate defensively and very good offensively. And yes, we habe a chance to kick it up a notch this year but we will have to play faster and better d (I think this team will struggle to grind it out.)
choppack1ParticipantImpressive game for team and staff. I actually thought Anya anr Marshall and Abu kept us close in first half.
Looks like tennis smith Jr took over in second half. Impressive win with short-handed squad…and as some who has criticized his team’s defense in the past, that was a key tonight.
Hope the guys have fun but sont roll too hard nwhite shadow style in Vegas or nc state style in Atlanta at acc tournament in 89.
choppack1ParticipantGlad to see Louisville lose. On TOS, the pp moderator made the mistake of saying that this is what was great about college football….the crazy upsets.
He, of course is a huge DD defender. At which point someone pointedly reminded him that state USED to do those things on a yearly but hasn’t done that in 4 years.
choppack1ParticipantCow – that coach doesn’t coach Penn state by any chance does he?
As far as this article. Glad these 2 have a chance to do this. I can’t imagine how bittersweet this will be.
choppack1ParticipantThere had been the executive order / regulation discussion earlier.
According to this, Obama takes the cake…by a large margin:
https://cei.org/blog/obamas-2016-federal-register-just-topped-highest-page-count-all-time
And this is the problem I have with progressives they specialize in growing the reach and power of government.
choppack1ParticipantThurgood Marshall was first black supreme Court Justice I believe… Clarence Thomas was second one.
