It should be checked out, but the guy worked for the friggin radio broadcast for them. I guess it’s easy enough to see whom he gave the info to and who covered…he may have done stuff electronically – not old school – and electronics yield one nasty paper trail.

Shocking to see a guy with his family at midfield of his alma mater. If it’s not an addiction issue, he is one of the more bitter actors I have seen. A team like wake can’t afford to give away its secrets.

Yes Va Wolf – I know. You expect the past to be a solid indicator of future results.

I did some analysis on coaches and those that won natties – and what they had done in the past. If Gott is to win one he’d definitely be an outlier.

Gso – if we don’t get a top 6 seed in the tournament or a top 4 finish in the acc this year, I don’t have a lot of confidence that gott can deliver it on any kind of consistent basis.

Va Wolf – looking at ooc you have to be our rpi has reached its apex.

With 4 home games to the dregs we will likely be somewhere between 55-70 when the real (read ACC) season starts. We need all of our existing opponents to do well.

McCallum – that’s a very fair point. It’s one thing to honor the past – and there is nothing w with it. However, when one is in the drought NC State is in – it reaks of a 30 year old wearing his school letter jacket.

If there is one thing – nd it’s about the only thing I don’t like about this new building, it’s that this kind of institutionalized it.

The building does look great…and hopefully it gives us an idea for the future when the RBC is kissed goodbye…a day I look forward to.

As for Anya, when we have actually tried to work the ball into him other games this year, good things have happened. We either don’t do that, he gets in foul trouble or he is on the bench.

Bass – while that is true, thus far in his tenure that has not been Gott’s mode of operandi. In his 4 “successful” seasons, his teams have grown as the year went on and typically peak at end of the year.

This year, that growth may be even more drastic. I am not happy with how we look thus far either. Other teams manage to look like they have played together and execute the basics of the game at this point. However, our athletic leadership seems to think Gott is the guy who can have us competing for titles and a regular in the Top 25.

To me, this year is that test: when you remove the talent gap from the equation, can you coach your kids up enough to be taken seriously on a national basis…and I don’t mean advancing to the sweet 16 as an 8 seed or higher.

I missed much of the end but from what I saw Dennis Smith’s D may have changed the outcome of that game. Happy for the team – hopefully this is our turning point.

And yes, the last 6 minutes of Army Navy was incredible. Happy for Army this evening… they had gone too long.

Just another excellent half of wolfpack basketball.

If this thing doesn’t get significantly better I belee we can cut bait with our head guy. But, there’s a lot of basketball to be played. Unfortunately, what we’ve seen thus far has been fugly.

I’m wondering if Terry Henderson outscores his defensive mistakes or not.

At this point I don’t think it’s fair to blame players – even partly. Since his arrival, I have seen Gott’s premier players play mediocre defense, with no repercussions.

These all seem like decent enough, coachable kids. It is a coaching problem.

For what it’s worth, Henderson was one of WVU’s better defensive players,

Whiteshoes – are you sure about that? I mean, you won’t see the floor if you don’t d up for huggy bear – but if that’s true that really doesn’t say much for what 3 years of tutoring at the gott defensive academy does for you. (Remember, he’s sat out a year, hurt last year, so know he is in his 3rd year of the system.)

I also find the inexperience claim laughable. He has 2 guys who are in their 3rd year in the program, another in his second, another who has 4, and another beginning his second.

Is it any wonder 2 of our more effective defenders have been here the least amount of time (talking the 2 freshmen here.)

Come on, if you played the game, you know the difference between a coach who is passionate about D and one who is not.

And truthfully, that’s a big part of it – the passion and pride you take in stopping your opponent – or at the very least making him uncomfortable. Say what you want about DD and Hux – but I guarantee you no team looked forward to trying to run the ball on us.

I don’t Gott has that inate passion for D. If he was a football coach his teams would look like those Mike Leach Texas Tech teams – where all his good athletes were on offense.

Also, as a result of that lack of passion – our offense and it’s effectiveness “feeds” our d. Translation – you see second halves like we saw vs Illinois and Creighton.

I am not looking forward to watching Kapita’s and Marquell’s defense regress, but I can almost guarantee you that it will.

Ahh. Well, I think the data you provided is quite enough to show the trend.:).

Was Gottfried at Bama 10 years? There is only 8 years from Bama. (Not being critical, I just w to call out the obvious diminishing returns of his defense the longer he coached his recruits vs. the players he inherited from previous coach.)

Xphoenix – be sure to include that clip of one of our guards sprinting down the court hoping to get a layup before the loose ball is ultimately corralled (by the opposition.)

Said guard is usually one of the first ones on the offensive side of the court, one of the last back on D. I won’t call him out, he isn’t pulled out by the coach, so I assume coach is cool with it.

If that was coach k o have a feeling he would have sat for a while, I don’t know if our coach noticed.

Botb -unfortunately, can’t do Raleigh or any other locale (other than Winston.)Only good thing about this game is that I can watch it, enjoy some libations and show up to work on time in the AM.

Cowdog – playing in one is like attending 20.

Since it’s going to go this route:

Been to peach Bowl’s, Tampa (hall of fame?), 2 Gators, 3 Charlotte (belk, tire and whatever), 2 in Miami’s Joe Robbie, and 2 in Rolando.

Best spot before the losing game – toss up between staying @ fort Lauderdale before the game with U and NYE in Atlanta before Peach Bowl (vs. ECU).

They are all fun if done right. I can’t do this one right.

ESPN scroll just announced WAKE FOREST to Military Bowl. It would appear, that we are now headed to Shreveport.

Odd that wake would be selected in front of us. Maybe some back-room dealing?

Is there a worse coaches defensive team in P5 basketball?

What does it say when folks are calling out upperclassmen?

Look by all indications Abu and Anya are solid citizens. Gott may end up getting it done but somehow, our defense seems to have gotten worse. This is kind of like BC’s basketball team getting worse.

Rick – I don’t think it’s the ankle that are causing his lapses. I believe his defensive laps are a direct result of being in the “program” 3 years.

He knows the expectations on both ends of the floor.

I remember watching Ralston Turner playing d in red / white game the year he sat out. He had a great stance and got after it.

I haven’t bailed on the team. I know that Gott’s teams typically improve a great deal during the season. It will be interesting to see how things are handled if we eak into the tournament and lose in round of 32 or 64 or miss on the bubble.

If that’s the case it can’t be blamed on talent and we can have the highest possible degree of confidence in the ceiling of the program. Knowing our history, it will be time to explore the floor.

    TaT – this is true.

His team’s typically hit their stride later in the season.

If you are just wanting to reach the tournament, this is fine. However, if you want banners, you need a better conference record (at least.)

In the old days of the 8/9 team ACC – you could 1-7 and still play same games as elite in advancing. Now, if you arent top 4, you don’t have that luxury – so you probably aren’t going to be conference champs.

Your journey in the NCAA is more difficult as that 7-13 seed that we’ll get.

I was hoping we wouldn’t see a “typical” successful Gottfried effort this year where we are sweating it until the first round of the ACC tournament.

To me, that’s what this year is about. Is the reason Gott’s teams not competed for the top 4 spots and landed on the bubble 4 of 5 years talent or is it coaching? Is what we’ve seen these first 5 years Gott’s ceiling?
