Sage advice Cowdog – saw timelines and charges and had done those deductions….But I would be more worried if we actually had something to lose this year.

So Chop are you saying he could be leaving our program in worse shape than just the roster?

There’s some negative chatter out in the websphere in that regard.

We will probably know in a few weeks if it is anything to be concerned about. Instinctively, I hear this stuff and I get concerned. Again, at this point, I am glad we have a stickler for the rules (by everything I can tell) in Deb Yow…I think she will / has done the needful if there’s needful to be done.

The rumblings aren’t encouraging – but hopefully it’s just dreamcasting by those who would wish ill will upon us and general hysteria.

I am more concerned with other rumors afloat…. Hopefully it’s nothing that costs us anything beyond this year.

Look at the regression on this squad…Only a couple players have improved offensively over the year and all have regressed defensively.

This is an absolute train wreck of epic proportions.

Bjd – part of me thinks that this is potentially the strategy behind letting what has leaked…(in the event the leak came from Yow’s camp and is NOT an accident.)

Keep in mind, there may be some ruffled feathers from last search and this could be something to let the Miller camp know they are A1.

Deb’s football search was pretty smooth – and I don’t expect this to be a bumpy road. If he does turn us down (which of you believe what you read is likely) – I think we probably end up with Keatts. (Whom I would be thrilled with but for the timing of his stint at Louisville.

I expect her offer to Archie to be strong and well-organized. Now, if we go through a Shaka part duex all bets are off.

Rye – If Matta steps down it will likely be for health reasons. I have no idea how toxic it is at tOSU right now – I imagine it ain’t that bad since their football is strong and that’s most important to them.

If those are valid – it ain’t apples and oranges. And make no mistake about it, Sendek left when he did to escape a bad situation. I think his situation would have been fine with a better AD – I think Yow would have handled it much better.

Let’s rule out money – that won’t be a factor.

In theory, he could take the Ohio State job and not move his family..but for a coach, an hour or 45 minute commute after working those hours probably ain’t a good idea.

The “he doesn’t like the way” we run things argument does make sense, but makes less sense if he has fond memories of his time here.

Again, he has been here before. He either wants to return or he doesn’t. If he doesn’t and ends up taking another opening elsewhere, we will know he has little desire to return here period. (If he stays in Dayton, it can be argued that he doesn’t want to uproot his family at this time and the door is still cracked open in the future.)

Goodman still has a hard-on for HWSNBN, even after his having been fired by freaking Arizona State. Take everything he says with the requisite grain of salt.

Yea. But that doesn’t mean he’s not right. There’s a consensus out there with folks who should know…And it seems to be Archie ain’t coming. I don’t hear the same confidence that he would come from those who usually or could chime in. Translation: If he really longs to return to his alma mater it’s a well kept secret.

He played for and coached with a guy who is still despised by a high percentage of the fan base (at least the internet fan base.) Somehow – his Dad, who obviously knows something about basketball allowed and supported both of his sons learning under this guy.

Don’t underestimate the impact of the negativity he undoubtedly witnessed during his time in Raleigh.

I find it somewhat both sad and amusing that State fans think Archie would love nothing more than to come back here in one breath and then slam his coach and boss in the next one. At the very least, he probably respects Sendek. And if that’s the case, what are his impressions when a significant amount of his potential customers don’t?

I hope I am wrong on this one – but I am not hearing from those who should know (in any form or fashion) that he wants to come back at this time.

I am sorry…But if you didn’t think a) that Gottfried was getting fired and b) that Archie would be one the Top 2 candidates – you’re in denial.

Let’s just think of it this way…Dave Doeren builds NC State into a consistent winner – clearly outpacing TOB, MOC, and Amato….When a big job like Nebraska, Michigan,tOSU opens up – do you not think that everyone and his brother will know that DD is a candidate?

Was it planted as a kind of a mea culpa for last time for any burned bridges? Was it leaked unitnetionally? Who knows? Who cares.

Don’t overreact. When you are facing a total meltdown like we are seeing (and that’s just the stuff we can see) – you know this is coming.

My only concern is if Arch thinks this is indicative of a larger disfunction and says I don’t want to deal with that trainwreck. This, and the way others continue to hate his former coach and boss, could understandably tip the scales.

Just some quick info on the data for some of these candidates…

    1) archie’s 5 year average is much better than previous 5 years at Dayton offensively. That same 5 year span is a little worse defensively. It should be noted that his last 3 years is significantly better defensively, but that appears to be at the expense of the offense (which is a 95 average the last 3 years….But still an improvement of the last 5 years and last 3 years before he got there.)

My main concerns with him at this point are offensive…His teams remind me a bit of the first 5 years of Sendek, but then again – he is winning and his career is showing solid improvement.

    2) Hoiberg’s teams were great offensively, but mediocre defensively though much better on D than Gott’s teams here.

    3) Looking at Gott’s career at Bama – for a span there he had solid defenses, then it just got worse and worse. He may be a guy who is good at fixing stuff but lousy at running them after it’s fixed.

Here are the question marks for your candidates:
    1) Has coached up his squad defensively but the offense reminds me a bit of a certain coach year 1….Still I agree he should be primary candidate. He has done an excellent job at Dayton and I would be ecstatic if he is our guy.

    2) Hoiberg – defensively his teams were average. Great offensive mind though and had excellent results at Iowa state. (Think about that.)

    3) Cronin – very little NCAA success. Good bloodlines, but I don’t know if his teams are good enough offensively.

    4) Randy Bennett – a) he’s a Sendek dopplegagger b) he’s a perpetual bridesmaid. I wouldn’t be surprised if he wasn’t able to get us past the Bubble range here in Raleigh.

    5) Vinnie Del Negro – much more NBA success than Lowe. We could do much worse. Still, there will be a learning curve and it will likely be steep. Who knows how he will recruit and handle the day to day

Apparently they blew last year so well.

Here’s a hint – when you are hanging on by a c hair, you usually end up losing your grip eventually.

And Bill – as a middle aged wolf, I tend to agree. However, some things should be sacred and some lines simply can’t be crossed and more successful coaches have been forced to resign for crossing them.

Rick – put 2 and 2 together… I am not going to say it, because it’s just disappointing, but given previous rumors not surprising.

Roo has given a strong hint and we can leave it at that. Who knows the veracity – but when someone’s past makes it believable – and their product is as bad as this….Well, it’s just time – and hopefully, ptbs see this and aren’t blinded by whatever loyalty they have to this party.

Yes. 3 out of 4 horrendous efforts in a row

Just saw a reference on TOS as to latest Gott rumor – and if it has any truth, let’s just say if Yow doesn’t can him, Yow should be fired and if Woodson doesn’t can her and can him, he should be fired.

From what I read, if verified he should have been fired on the spot. Hopefully just rumors.

Well, being a Winston Salem resident when my wife approached me about tix from her work in December – it seemed like a good idea at the time.

Of course, as luck would have it – my time would have been much better spent on a personal level doing my weekend 8 mile run.

But, went to game with little expectation and it was a good thing.

They serve beer at Wake – and perhaps the most obvious difference between wake forest and NC state is that it’s not obvious they sell beer.

I was very relaxed – it was good day spent with the family, then the second half I hung with a friend of mine who is disappointed his marriage is over.

So good day but for the basketball. Again, we should be thankful to Gott for removing all doubt on the coaching situation.

Everything I know about the NCAA tournament bubble I learned from VA Wolf…And unfortunately, again, I have no reason to care.

A general note…In both football and basketball perhaps it is time to move to a selection process that kind of eliminates conferences and just looks towards “major teams” vs. “minor” teams.

In this example – our football record of 5-5 was decent against “major” teams..Our current basketball record – well, there’s a reason why I won’t be doing much visiting to the dance card website

Rye – I am with you on this. I suspect his problems arise from a food addiction and hopefully he gets that straightened out because when the basketball ends he will really be susceptible to morbid obesity.

He has seemed like a great teammate….And lest we forget, he totally saved the LSU game on the tournament in what seems like forever ago.

I really do wonder what he said. He probably called out Gott. Too bad he didn’t tweet it.

I certainly hope not. Extending Gott while firing TOB would show she is too emotionally attached to Gott to think rationally.

I would prefer someone who had better experience.

He would have an incredibly steep learning curve.

He needs to get out of Durham asap so he can get different experience and it doesn’t become stale.

And I also hold a grudge because his last name is very similar to the Pain from Rayne.

Perfect example of cherry picking your stats to fit your narrative.

Iā€™m not arguing for or against keeping Gott, but this is sleazy work.

How so? These are Gott’s last 2 years. Granted, the year isn’t over yet and the ACC is extra tough. Of course, some might say “other coaches had a tough schedule too pal!”

Seriously though – he is in Year 6 and his results have tailed off – just like they did at Bama. This development shouldn’t surprise anyone with an IQ above 80 since he wasn’t fired from Alabama for his off court issues alone.

Funny – once switched from a playing style that was more plodding, physical and athletic to one that emphasized skills – Sendek enjoyed success and for all of his faults, I got the impression he had a plan – and did a decent job executing it. Even his 10th year – which as you correctly note – fell apart towards the end – was a testament to this process as the team went 10-6 and won in the round of 64 in the NCAAs.

The next year looked daunting, but who knows how it would have turned out with him at the helm.

OTOH – with Gott – every year it seems like we are throwing a lineup together and you just don’t know what we’ll have. He has proven successful at assembling talent – but that’s only half the battle.

He is losing this other half. You want to know your prior year’s reserves will be this year’s starters. We actually saw Warren, and even Vandenberg do this. We saw Cat take it to the next level.

The turnover under Gott has been so extreme that we have really lost out on the Cam, Scooters, Cliff Crawford’s, CJ Williams, Marcus Melvin’s of the world.
