If Henderson does get a sixth year, I hope the new coach doesn’t insist on playing him more than a handful of minutes on the floor at the same time with Rowan. Too much of the same player.
brqan925ParticipantThanks for the link to the Yow interview – well worth reading.
To me this was very interesting.
“What we need to do is to stay focused and remember the type of individual we want, be patient meaning we in all likelihood will have to wait to talk to someone we consider to be special. We can’t wait forever though. I’m not waiting until the Final Four.”
brqan925ParticipantEnjoyed this series, thanks for doing it. I hope to see more analysis, defense or otherwise – here in the future.
brqan925ParticipantEnjoyed this and looking forward to Part III.
Also would love it if you would consider grading defense after each game going forward.
brqan925ParticipantThanks for posting this. We really need more basketball content.
I enjoyed reading this and look forward to the rest of your series. I’m wondering if Terry Henderson outscores his defensive mistakes or not.
05/16/2016 at 4:01 PM in reply to: Russell Wilson's Commencement Speech AKA Ramblings Of A Lunatic #103474brqan925ParticipantIn 2009, Wilson played baseball in the Coastal Plain League, a summer collegiate league that starts play in late May. He played for the Gastonia Grizzlies. He played in 25 games, making 24 starts. The Grizzlies played 56 games that season.
brqan925ParticipantI’m surprised that someone who’s paid attention to basketball for 30+ years would put the lower score first.
brqan925ParticipantOK, it’s not fair to blame the loss on one player but Maverick was terrible on both ends of the floor.
Too bad Washington was the one who transferred and not Freeman.
brqan925ParticipantI enjoyed this post.
One thing that jumped out at me was this passage:
“No one fighting for a spot on the NCAAT bubble wants to ‘waste’ their home games against the bottom of the conference.”
I understand the logic but it still seemed odd coming from a fan of a team that lost on the road at two sub-100 RPI teams that played on the first day of the conference tournament.
brqan925ParticipantDoug – thanks for pasting that Pitt link. Dixon’s been the coach there for over a decade, why does he have so much trouble recruiting?
We beat them by 18 before we hit our stride. Here’s hoping for another double-digit win today and a chance to rest some of our guys.
brqan925ParticipantIngram is rail thin so I’d be surprised if he played much in the post, unless he bulks up a bit.
Has there been any talk about Lacey going pro after this season?
brqan925ParticipantSupposedly six schools in the running for Ingram and he’s made official visits to five of them, with NC State being the only outlier. But he was here for the State-Duke game unofficially and has been here other times, too.
Also, there’s chatter that he’s concerned about the academic fraud scandal over at UNC, which may be why he hasn’t committed already. His AAU coach was Jerry Stackhouse.
brqan925ParticipantThe first time State played UVA, Anderson led all players with 16 points and he had a team-high 9 rebounds.
brqan925ParticipantLast year we lost at Wake by 1 point and the year before that we lost by two. The previous two years we won by a combined 61 points.
We’ve lost in Clemson 5 of the last 6 years.
brqan925ParticipantI knew a guy who was a D III women’s basketball coach. He insisted that at that level, he had to play the same way all of the time because that’s all his players could handle. When the team was playing man-to-man defense, they had to handle the pick-and-roll the exact way each time or the team would get confused. You either had to switch all of the time or fight through all of the time.
It seems we employ the same strategy. The other team runs a high ball screen and we switch 100% of the time. And it ends up that their guard drives by our big man and the weak side help is late or they get a mismatch inside to exploit. We’re borderline incompetent defending the most basic play in basketball.
Since defensive rebounding is hardly a strength anyway, we might as well play zone.
brqan925ParticipantThe officiating was no joy but neither were our efforts to handle the press. Most high school teams have a play or two that they can run when the other team picks up full court. Ours was nothing more on letting our guards try to get open against three defenders and having our inbounds guy throw them passes in poor position. And can we have someone talk to Cat about not picking up his dribble one step over the halfcourt line?
brqan925ParticipantI would be curious how many years the reg season and tourney does not get a #1. Probably rare if ever.
It happened just last year with Miami, who received a #2 seed. I think that’s the only time it’s happened, though.
brqan925Participant“OK…here is what I do NOT understand. If Golden committed the 10th FOUL, why were there NO free throws awarded to State?”
There are no free throws awarded on a player control foul.
