For this year’s Team… that simply boils down to this…
Five less turnovers…
Five more rebounds…
Five more free made throws..and a little bit of luck….
EVERY game for the rest of the season….
Or as Mr. Dog or Crash Davis would say…

Are the words… “Team” and “Record” (as in Wins & Losses) synonymous ???
Last year’s squad of veterans, was by all accounts and any measurable standard, not ‘a good team’ that finished with good record and a dance ticket…
This year’s squad of kids is already a whole lot better TEAM than last year’s… but their record may not end up with as many ‘W’s or a dance ticket.
Us beachboys think alike… too many ‘fans’ are focusing on the wrong things…
If you want to build a championship program…. build the best Teams….
The ‘W&L’s will take care of themselves.If you just want to make some noise… just settle for and be satisfied with some Wins.

Personally… I did not realize that things with NASA had evolved to that point.I’m not a “rocket scientist”… but my Pop was for 37 years…. with Bell Labs at the Carolina Missile Plant in old B’ton.
But I know this….
In my lifetime, nothing has done more to build common ground among a very diverse people/nation than NASA and the space program.
Starting with the launches on TV
(watching those during elementary school in the 1960s was the second coolest thing in school… right behind watching the ACC bball tournament in the classroom on that Friday in early March).Then came the moon trips…
Later on… it was the Space Shuttle.Now it’s all just corporate stuff and unmanned visits to faraway places….
Just another sign that, for some of us, the world we live in is not the world we grew up in…..
BUT! Does anybody else ask the question…
Why hasn’t some ‘smart person in Washington (or where ever the ‘smart people’ hang out these days) figured out how to NOT throw the baby out with the bathwater ????

except with the ‘suck’ part…..
our kids don’t ‘suck’…Today… was a big step forward. As I posted after the victory against the Twerps…. the sequel to that movie — where the star player can’t play… some unknown(s) step up and a earn a win in a hard fought rivalry game — has two versions. Most of the time, (think Tyler in Charlottesville last season ) the team reverts to it’s old self when the star player returns. But not always, and not this time.
Today… as far as playing consistent, controlled team ball with all options clicking ( inside, outside, drive to the rim ) our kids picked right up where they left off Monday night.
Plus… it appears clear from here… that five straight days of practice cemented the X&0s lessons that begun in August. We played good half court offense in a game that did not have a abundance of fast breaks. Our kids, for the first time this season, looked like they all were on the same page and knew exactly what they were trying to do.
If not for career games by two Tech players — one in each half — the score would have more clearly reflected their overall progress.
Defensively… we played consistent, solid defense… although amount of time Vandy spent on the bench watching Anya… remains perplexing. Not saying that was the wrong thing, just that it it was perplexing.
No word on ANTHONY on the bench at the end of the game, the best guess is it was a coaching decision in a close game dictated by matchup considerations, the excellent play of Lewis at the point, notwithstanding.
More importantly, during that stretch in the early second half where we came back from down eleven to up one, BOTH Tyler and Anthony on the court. That plus the astute substitution patterns of Dez and Freeman, perhaps, is what we should expect to see as the season progresses.
The overtime was a bonus in more ways than one. Now the kids know they can go hard forty five… a month ago they could not go hard for thirty. More importantly, two straight wins doing things the Coach’s way, instead of CAT on three, four or five and halfhearted defense, builds more Team confidence. With confidence comes succes. Success breeds success.
Now… our kids have three games this week… all tough ones… What needs to happen to finish the week 2-1 or better is for them to take everything they have done right the last two games and raise that about thirty percent to the next level. Specifically, this translates into simply making about five fewer mistakes on each end of the floor. Sounds simple, but these will be tough games with lot’s of extra “distractions”. That’s 99% mental.
No sir, our kids don’t suck. They are just kids. And we are watching them grow up in front of eyes.

glad you girls kissed and made up…This has me curious…
1. Tech stayed in the game in the first half with there outside shooting and free throws on those jump shots…
2. GOTT went to the 2/3 Zone in the second half… but VANDWAGON (7 footer) rides the pines..
3. Tech doesn’t get the outside shoots… instead Daniel Miller (7 footer) keeps Tech in the game in the paint.Game goes down to the wire with both teams fighting hard. Could have gone either way.
Some thing is missing here…

1. GOTT’s move to the 2/3 zone
2. TEAM BALL — well rounded effort on both ends of the court.
3. NO QUIT — we played the OT as hard and as under control as the first five minutes….
4. Tyler Lewis….Refs not a factor.
However… I will say from here it appeared that there was one ref who looked a little inexperienced and hestitant… Didn’t recognize him…Don’t know his name… Next time I see him he needs to be on the court at DII or JUCO to get some seasoning.
