Our kids played fantastic last night, considering two weeks ago in Chapel Hill in their last BIG game…
they couldn’t find each other on the floor, much less play decent ball.Truth is… they might be better in the long term for the loss…
If they had won… their feet would not have touched the ground for a couple of weeks from all the attention.As it is… they have the Good Taste of this thing now…
They know what they can do WHEN, not IF, they play together.
And they are hungry and they all want some more of THIS.And dontworryaboutit — Clempson, Pitt…. they’re gonna be a double digit wins.
And Mr. Dog called the same two weeks ago against the Holes in the RBC.
This season, We’re getting our dance ticket.

The ACC was built on coaching rivalries, not player rivalries…
Case, McGuire, McKinney.
Sloan, Smith, Bubas, Drisell
Valvano, Cremins, Williams
Coach Rat, Uncle Royetc, etc, etc…
Maryland… arguably the most ‘hated’ team in league history.. leaves the conference
and yes…Syracuse ‘takes their place’…. but it ain’t as league “darling”…leaque A$$hats might be more accurate.
And with Patino and Da’Ville coming in next year…
‘the Big Orange will have a legitimate challenger for the biggest ‘A$$hat’ in the ACC.For years… we’ve had two coaches that had a legitimate rivalry between themselves…. and a predictable decline.. because it take THREE A$$hats to keep the party going.
Now.. schools like NC State, Virgina to mention two… ain’t going to sit back and watch… we are going to do whatever it takes to compete and win some ball games…. just like everybody on Tobacco Road did back in 1948 when NC State was the ‘Darling’ or ‘Biggest A$$hat’ in the ACC, depending on your perspective.
Last year’s game at the RBC with the Big Orange and with, if you recall, too many of their fans in our best seats and last night’s game are evidence enough of that.
Good guys v. Bad guys => Instant rivalry…
And yes…. everybody at Grandover is all smiles, because the ‘old ACC’ is back.

We are IN the ACC and the ACC is IN all of us.Facing what most credible accounts consider to be near bankruptcy in their athletic department and with no willing benefactor, Maryland sold out for the money because they had no other financial choice. Otherwise, they would have been well pleased to stick around for another 60 years if for no other reason than to torment their rivals on Tobacco Road and in Charlottesville.

A seasoned guard with a high bball IQ…. when stuck in the corner like that with time running out …
would have mysteriously ‘flopped’ on his face out of bounds while simultaneously throwing the ball into the seats with one hand and grabbing the defenders wrist with the other causing the defender to land on top of him….Ya’ll HAVE seen that play hav’nt you…..

but hypothetically … with the ball out of bounds under their basket with 6.7 seconds left….
I’ll take the chances of the defenders being too aggressive and fouling so I can throw the ball in again with less time
or
the 5 second call … in which case… they have the ball out and the length of the floor to go with 2 seconds more or less and I get to set up a 2/3 court press….
as opposed to trying to pass or dribble the ball… especially out of the corner….Just saying….

F-that…. a month ago … we had NO ZONE OFFENSE… and tonight we did exactly what we wanted to do against the vaunted ‘Cuse Zone all night… the ball stayed in the paint all night…. you can blame our missed outside shots and free throws on the DOME but not on the vaunted ‘Cuse Zone….
AND What about our MAN-TO_MAN DEFENSE ???
Our kids plus the VANDWAGON in the middle…. just held the NUMBER ONE TEAM IN THE NATION to 57 freaking points….
We didn’t do that with 20+/- other lesser teams this season…Our BIGS were BIG… rebound s…’Cuse had one more than we did… Nobody fouled out…. The perimeter guys shut down Ennis and the rest of the ‘Cuse guards… If Xmas hadn’t had a career night…. we wouldn’t even be talking about the vaunted ‘Cuse zone.
Some of ya’ll need to get some perspective and show our kids some love….

Boeheim’s only big move was the trap in the last 40 seconds of the game… otherwise, as noted above, he was behind the eight ball by one move the entire game.
The breakaway was the coaching move of the night… That play only comes from the bench.
The only thing both Dez and ANTHONY “did wrong” at the end was to try to do something…. they should have just held the ball and taken the foul or the jumpball…. we had the arrow… )…. but that is against all bball instincts and impossible to coach.
So we shouldn’t blame them at all…. IMO.
