Participant^pup … that was back in December… old news.. Tyler tweeted when he shouldn’t have… after a short time in the Coaches DogHouse… Tyler has since worked his “problems” out “on the court”… without tweeting…
Now… on the other hand… to no one’s surprise….
Putting a cat in a DogHouse hasn’t quite fully produced the intended results as of yet…Moral of the story… let your sister do your tweeting for you….
besides everybody already knows… Dogs and Cats don’t generally play well together.#NCSU-North Carolina's #1 FOOTBALL school!bill.onthebeach
Participant…Back to the headaches…
The good news… is that Coaches GOTT five whole days (which is a lifetime this time of year) to work something out…
The bad news… is that they shouldn’t expect any “help” from Boston College. It’s all on us.#NCSU-North Carolina's #1 FOOTBALL school!bill.onthebeach
Participant… Not that it’s related to the topic …. but I understand John Calipari is looking for a “new Cat” to play point guard after last weekend’s trip into the abyss…

Participant… well I’m sure this ain’t what the O.P. was thinking when he penned the Title…
but…One thing Monday night means is that GOTT & Company woke up this morning with a big headache and a little headache…
For three months we seen the Coaches —
1. Trying to get these kids to play balanced Team ball on both ends of the court… and
2. At the same time… trying to get CUZ to be a Team Leader and not disappear for large segments of the game..And we’ve seen good improvement in both areas, especially the last month…
But after last night’s historic explosion by CUZ… plus the surprising defensive effort by one former starter…
the question on Coaches minds this morning is:How do you put the genie(s) back in the bottle?
Or with only two games left.. do we just put the “Team Stuff” on the back burner until next season and let ’em play it out? It’s gonna take more than one game for some sense of equilibrium to return…
Why? Because for young kids, especially, it’s just too damn easy to sit back (while running the court) and watch CUZ do it all.
… and CUZ will try to do it all…if left alone….Then there’s the “little headache” …
Anybody else wondering what ANTHONY’s sister is tweeting today??
As for me, I’m not, ’cause I’ve seen that soap opera and it ends the same way every time.#NCSU-North Carolina's #1 FOOTBALL school!bill.onthebeach
ParticipantGuess we GOTT to coach our way to victory tonight…
PACK up 2 with 12 to play….
#NCSU-North Carolina's #1 FOOTBALL school!bill.onthebeach
ParticipantI don’t think we’re getting any of the breaks tonight.
It’s a tie game…with 15 mins. to go
If we hadn’t GOTT some breaks.. we’d be down twenty…#NCSU-North Carolina's #1 FOOTBALL school!bill.onthebeach

Participant… the way I’m seeing it and hearing it… Lutz is the details guy (on both ends of the floor) — that Gott’s not — Gott’s the media wiz and recruiter — that’s Lutz is not… but I don’t really know much else… except…
In theory, that’s a perfect match perhaps…. In practice.. as Rye points out… it’s a damn sight better than anything we’ve seen around here in the last twenty years… AND as I have said elsewhere… GOTT & Company has a whole lot of room on the UPSIDE as they continue to work together.
————–
It’s ironic… perhaps… but at the end of day… coaches and players both get evaluated on the same two common denominators…
1. split second decision making…
2. ability to work and play well with others…in the office…
in practice…
during the game…It all counts and ultimately determines the Team’s true “success” beyond a won-loss record.
#NCSU-North Carolina's #1 FOOTBALL school!bill.onthebeach
Participant… The bad news is we’ve already “seen this game”…
Tyler handles the point…
CUZ gets his Twenty….
SOME of our BIGS continue to show marked improvement.. some don’t…
ANTHONY watches for the most part..
A Couple of other GUYS hit some shots…
Our Defense is better than Saturday but not what it was against ‘Cuse…Game comes down to the wire….
The good news is we win this one…
and not necessarily because we deserved it…#NCSU-North Carolina's #1 FOOTBALL school!bill.onthebeach

Participant^History and context of the History and context…..
1. 1961-62… NCAA investigation results in probation, transfer of players, and firing of one coach.
2. 1973… NCAA investigation that resulted in a one year probation.
3. 1983… NCAA investigation into the recruitment of a player from Greensboro Page results in no penalties. Conclusion: Both sides had been going at each other in a pretty evenly matched battle for decades prior to the Fall of Valvano.
Please do not forget this….
In 1989-90-91… the folks who were the determining factors in the final outcome of the FALL of Valvano.. were not from Orange County and did not wear blue…. they were Inside-Inside-NCSTATE-people…. a fact that some other people have never forgiven.#NCSU-North Carolina's #1 FOOTBALL school!bill.onthebeach
Participantif only we had social media back in the 80?s.
….hmmm … you gonna need to roll back the hands of time another decade or decade and a half… to get to dinosaur days….
#NCSU-North Carolina's #1 FOOTBALL school!bill.onthebeach
Participant…hello 82…
For the record.. neither Sloan nor Valvano “built a program from scratch”… they both took over the very successful program built by Everette Case (although in Sloan’s case… there was the two years when Press Maverich was coach ). Besides all that was a lifetime or two ago… Now Clempson was about FIVE HOURS from the intersection of Hwy 15/501 the last time I made that drive as opposed to twenty-thirty minutes…Did Clempson win an ACC basketball championship… I must have missed that…

ParticipantThanks….
I wasn’t really referring to your comments in particular.
It may interest you to know… that way back in dinosaur time, when I attended NC State…. we had a pretty good basketball team. Off the top of my head, I don’t remember losing to Duke during those four years and I’m thinking we beat *NC something like ten times in a row.
When it came to the officials…. there was this little guy named Lenny. Old Lenny loved *NC and tried his best to help Coach Smith out, especially when he was playing over in Carmichael. Old Lenny got some of the other refs to see his way too, I think.
Kids and alums alike used to get redfacedcussing mad during the games… that plus the heat
(coaches back then also played this little game with each other furnaces and tried to see who could get the temperature in their old gym up above 90)…
plus the blue smoke…
(a lot of people smoked a lot of cigarettes during the games… including some coaches on the bench and there was no air conditioning )…
made basketball games in those little gyms… shall we say.. ’emotional’…and right in the middle of all that was Old Lenny…
He would always find a way to just have to make a charging/blocking call with less than two minutes left in the game… the few times he could not manufacture a charge/block… he’d just mysteriously NOT call traveling on somebody…
I mean the guy was a genius at what he did… except for two things… he never got those two calls right…. the little guy literally could not count to three and run the court at the same time… and he was slow and always behind the play and out of position on every charge/block call.
The Coaches all would fuss and then say the magic word and Lenny would T ’em up… The former Dook player who was coaching at Maryland back then even had this stomp thing he did with his foot… just to get Lenny’s attention when the crowd got loud. Somebody up in Cole Field House finally put a seatbelt on his chair to slow him and Lenny and the T’s down.
All of which made for great theatre, and contributed to the abuse heaped upon old Lenny’s head by the fans. Truth is Old Lenny loved it.
Not much different than what we saw at this years *NC or Syracuse games. The funny thing is… the *NC, Dook, Wake and UM people all said the same things we did about old Lenny and his eyesight.
The was another ref named Hank Nichols… and he was the good guy… Coach Sloan always liked it when he worked our games and made sure that Hank was working at least five or six of our most important home games each year (UNC,Dook,Wake and esp. those Twerps) … Coach even got old Hank his own personal parking place on the east side of Reynolds.
It was a known fact according to some… that some coaches paid some officials extra to work their games…
Coach Smith was paying old Lenny and Coach Sloan was paying Hank.Of course, I never saw any money change hands… I’m just telling you what people used to say.
Thinking about it it was really no different then way back then than now…. except we won more games than anymore else… which solved a lot of our “problems”.
Back then… in spite of what some fans said… Neither Old Lenny or Hank ever cost anybody a game… The games were all razor close and both teams made plenty of other mistakes over the course of forty minutes and that’s what determined the outcome, not Lenny’s bad calls or Hank’s good calls.
The difference is Nobody back then, believed in exotic, tinfoilhat, conspiracy theories, except a few people with small concrete buildings in their backyards, who were largely shunned and ignored or known to be on some watchlist in Washington … I have no idea when or how all that got started.

As for the “drama”… round up the usual suspects…
starting with those who have already shown a propensity for drama from last year and ask your questions.#NCSU-North Carolina's #1 FOOTBALL school!bill.onthebeach
ParticipantHowever, Lutz seems to be some of the glue that is holding the program together despite the drama….so, cutting him loose would really be a bad move.
And in a lot of ways… I wish you hadn’t but somebody was going to… so it might as well be one of our most respected members….
I been saving this… until the inevitable post season — coaching carousel / media circus….
Check this pic out closely… late fourth quarter or OT in the *NC game last week during the fever pitch of the battle…
Pay special attention to the look on one of the assistant coaches face… contrast that with the rest of pic…
Now… I know what I think that LOOK says…. but I ain’t saying jack…

ParticipantShort answer to the Bennett question…
Joe Harris, Akil Mitchell
Both Seniors….———–
Everybody here loves BJ Anya… right ??
BJ’s a freshman…
How are going to teach BJ how to play good defense much less good zone defense in one season when the kid who apparently is coming from a somewhat undisciplined environment in basketball terms — shows up somewhere north of 300 pounds ???
In spite of that…. in the last two or three games… the freshman… BJ Anya has been a difference maker in a big positive way on the floor and on the bench.
Coach Rat, Boeheim… any other well know “defensive minded” basketsaurus / coach couldn’t do any better than GOTT & Company
with BJ Anya.Plus we GOTT BJ for three more years…
BJ will be ALL-ACC before he leaves Raleigh.#NCSU-North Carolina's #1 FOOTBALL school! -
