This is when Gott reminds me of Herb…when its not working, he doesn’t know or doesn’t try make in game adjustments. Obviously Clemson has made adjustments. If we win this game, it will be someone step it up on the floor tonite.
Clemson in foul trouble inside and we still living by the 3. We should be attacking them more, foul trouble and a freshman inside for Clemson…I just don’t get why we still settle for a 3.
One night Turner kills us….another Lacey does. So far both are killing us.

We run a stand around offense. One player dribbles around circle while the rest watch. Just no flow to this team. Ugly game so far but not behind by 20 as usual.

SFN are the ones in a bubble if think Pack can go 1-1 and make Dance….we lose to Clemson and we are NIT bound. No if, ands or buts about it. Only other chance is a run in the ACC tournament. Clemson is as “must win” as Pack has seen in many seasons. This will be a defining game for Gotts resume.

I’ve heard from my UNC friends so many times how beating them is always so special to us because we treat it like our ACC Championship. I’m hearing it big time after losing to a bad BC today (damn social media!). I’ve always argued not true…BUT even I’m starting to believe its true. Seems the only game a NC State team and coaches can emotionally get up for is UNC, to the point that no game emotionally after it matters. Even if you are playing the last place team in ACC with a 9 game losing streak. Even if its a game you should win with huge NCAA bid on the line. Hey we beat UNC !! Lets storm Hillsbourgh St. Thus the historic 1-15 record after the win. Is that win so great because they are that good? Or because we measure our success on beating them?
We can all take comfort that the pundits have us still in the NCAAT but are we? Lets say we beat Clemson and lose to Syracuse. We will end regular season 18-13 (9-9). Basically just barely above .500 and lower bottom of ACC. I don’t have the confidence most have here, that does NOT get us into the Dance. If we lost to a lowly BC early on…perhaps. But unless we make some noise in the ACCT then we are NIT bound. Say we win 1 game in ACC T which means we are 19-14 come selection Sunday. We won’t go, theres just too many teams chasing us this year (Miami, Dayton, Texas, Pitt etc) that will make a late run. We will be the Miami of last year, clearly on the bubble and clearly playing in the NIT. Todays lost was so bad in more ways than just for our fanbase emotional stability.
Yea but Bass – how come some 18 year olds give consistent effort and others do not?
I’m not sure chop, maybe its true, Gott’s persona gives an answer to that question. But one can’t continue to blame it on youth. Again, was it the kids or coach?
I’m not saying didn’t hope the Pack won today, just history tells me to expect different. 1-19 after a win over Blues tends to temper ones confidence. I ask this question, did Gott have the same results after a big win at Bama in SEC? Say like an upset over Kentucky or Tenn, followed by a WTF loss? Be interesting to know those stats.
Honestly….did anyone really expect anything different today? Someone said were were 1-14 after beating Duke/UNC….we are actually 1-19 overall after a big win over the Blues. No performance, no defense, no show….typical NC State basketball after a big win. I told my better half wish had not made such a big deal with the campus celebration over the win against Cheats….we can’t handle success or admiration.
Today is why I try and stay grounded with NC State basketball…knew it was coming. What pisses me off is that you don’t see good programs, not necessary good teams, tank like NC State does after a big win. Or a big loss. You never see the Blues or most other teams in ACC do this. Course, most teams don’t get so emotional over beating a team like UNC unless you are Clemson.
Think about it….we just lost to the worst team in the ACC and perhaps D1 knowing we need to win to make the Dance. If the kids can’t get up for this type game or atmosphere, then not sure if its on the staff or kids. And don’t give me this “dealing with 18 yr old” crap…we are almost 30 games into the season with so much on the line. We are NC State.Herb is the Legends tournament….how fitting, lol. Herb is not going anywhere. ASU Athletic Dept is a lot like ours was under Lee Fowler…the light is on but the building is always dark and the switch is broken. Have read some grumbling about same all average teams, has reached ceiling and how he has a clean program…yada yada yada Herb is like 40-70 in conference since Hardin went pro. The fans have mentioned Archie as his replacement and remind me of some of the post here that worried Archie will not be there for the taking long. Byron Scott is also mentioned. I for one hope Herb is still there and the Pack has the same results as Utah had last nite.

And return of Purvis to area as UConn is playing ECU on ESPNU. So far Purvis has been brick city and same ole lack of D while ECU on 13-2 run. Purvis has 50 friends and family at game from Raleigh said annoucer. Who do we pull for with Noles/Canes? Think Noles win helps us in standings but not RPI. Course if Canes lose, they will need to beat the CHeats…thats a plus.
Work to be done…much work to be done….beat BC. Beat Clemson. Beat Syracuse. Then KNOW that we are squarely in the NCAAT. Just too early to take anything for granted. A lot of basketball to play with a lot of implications if just one game we don’t show up. Cue the Aerosmith…..”Living on the Edge”…
Now lets just hope we don’t go into our usual free fall after beating Dook or Cheats. Our record after a big win like this is 1-20.
