Marshmellas are the glue that holds the white gold I guess, ha. Rule one: Never argue with a good experienced cook. Rule two: Refer to the cook. I hope it turns out well for those who are gonna give it a go. I’ll be honest, I’m little nervous since it was my adaptation penned to paper from her memory. Between my moms age, and my cooking knowledge, something could have gotten lost in the translation, ha. In between it all, my 80 something Dad is gonna be the most disappointed as he is expecting me, or my mom to surprise him with a coconut cake for Christmas Day after all our “secret” cake talk. He’s already ask me twice how my cake turned out.

That would be nice if you could get it. I would love to surprise my mother with that cake.

I have the white gold recipe if you still want it Rick. And anyone else. I can either post it here or email it. Wasn’t the easiest thing to do as it was like doing dictation from my mom to paper. Her recipe is the original coconut cake made by generations of our family of cooks. Its a major undertaking but when done correct, the results are simple heaven. Let me know how or who wants the recipe. Get your whole coconuts now !!! LOL.

    Bass,
    Do you have the recipe?

Rick I will ask my mom. Shes 80 something now and still sharp as a knife when it comes to old family recipes. None to my knowledge has ever been penned to paper.

Due to her age, she does not cook like she used to for the holidays, even her special coconut cake is a special surprise considering the pain staking work to do it by my mom and her mom and grandmom’s standards. Its not easy to even find a whole coconut now in any grocery store. Growing up, a bag containing tangerines, fake jellybean style orange slice looking candy and whole coconut was as common gift received at the church Christmas program.

This could get ugly quick for alot of people, including Petrino and perhaps lead to reconsidering the Heismen winner if the Wake game is overturned and declared a forefeit for Louisville. Lets hope it don’t turn out to be an ACC investigation done with the UNC scandal standards…

“In a statement Wednesday, the ACC said “protecting competitive integrity is fundamental” and that the conference would “perform its due diligence.”
An investigation will start with Galloway, but it’s going to end up asking what Bobby Petrino knew and when he knew it. He denied knowing anything in November, so if Petrino was indeed involved or was aware his staff was taking advantage of illicit information, this is going to be a lot worse for his professional life than any two-wheeled peccadilloes or broken promises in his past.”

Fact: A good southern meal including Christmas celebration always requires a visit to Piggly Wiggly.

Growing up my mom would also make pink and yellow colored homemade candies filled with coconut….heaven. You can get these seasonal treats at your local Pig along with many homemade style Christmas goodies. My mom still sends me there to get her “seasoning meat”.

As for the coconut cake! I like it after its set in the frig for a day. Mouth watering delight. My mom made one that I would crack the coconut and shred the while delicacy meat inside with a hand held grader. Little things like that was pain stacking but worth every minute of work.

Interesting. I’ll bet this move was not money driven. Course, as the old saying goes, “get it while the getting is good” and this year for Canada was impressive at Pitt. So he may have decided to cash in the results. Then again, he may have seen the cupboard pretty bare for next season and decided to get out before it got bad. Either way it screams problems at LSU. Two Offensive Coords? Just don’t see Canada sharing duties and limelight…. after all, he was rumored to have left State because of power struggles with DD. Could see Canada leaving Pitt for a Head Coach job but not to share duties with another assistant. Even if it is SEC. Or maybe more because it is SEC don’t understand this move.

Shocking news on WHO was leaking the game info. I’m with most here, there has got to be a good reason a past student athlete, former coach and current radio game announcer would do this. The plot thickens as it will grow legs. Bet there are some “other” participates and inside traders sweating bullets right now if he rats them out to save his soul. This one will be as a good movie as it plays out. Get your popcorn. “The Wolf of Wake Forest” is about to start.

It was never officially Christmas until my mom made her fruitcake. I was always designated to crack the walnuts and pecans. Even to this day, not sure what all the colorful ingredients she used. Mom also did a ice box version that I like best. Maybe it was because it was more like fudge than cake or that it didn’t include as much fruit. The stuff was like glue when being prepared. Anything it touched, including your hands was like getting paint off. But once it came out it was red, green and other colors amazing. She also made two versions, the “special” one for those special people and the one she would set out for all during gatherings.

Someone loves fruitcake. As mentioned, the Supreme Fruit Cake place in Bear Creek sells over 100,000 during the months leading up to Christmas. It’s like a meca for fruit cake followers with their annual pilgrimage thru my hometown.

Pack didn’t win this game, Tenn State lost it. Without couple unforced TO by TS in regulation, this game would ended with a loss instead of OT. We Gott lucky. Just like we are lucky we are not 4-5 now. This team is bad if just compare to last year. Going 500 in ACC play would be amazing considering the play so far. So much talent on this team, so much depth. Afraid just too many pieces for Gott to bring together.

Hard to be patient after what we saw last nite. I think the game against Loyola was the writing on the wall. Throw in a dismal football season with all the preseason hype for basketball, its proven to be like the morning after a bottle of Mezcal, once we drank it, all we got was a worm and hangover.

I still have hope but its not gonna get easier with ACC play so any OOC loss is huge. Yes, we are young and missing two key (hopefully) role players. They can help but they could make this team spiral into the empty Mezcal bottle of despair. There will be chemistry issues, and playing time issues once they return. If losing continues, bet there will be unrest amongst the players and bench. Finger pointing will happen and Gott will have his hands full keeping the team happy. We have gone from a short bench last season to too many this season. Winning cures all. I just hope it happens more soon. If not, this could turn out to be disaster on and off the court. Big young egos and losing are not a receipe for success.

Guess its another “we was one play here, one play there away from the win”. This team sucks. Usual preseason hype for Pack turns into dismal season. Looking another 16-16 season.

First time I’ve seen team play, not seeing what all the hype is about. Same ole same ole. Turnovers, no D, no offensive sets, brick city with 3’s when it goes bad. This is a NCAA bubble team unless something gels quick. ACC league play will eat this team.

Smith is pressing or just trying to hard. He needs to run the offense more and stop trying to be the scorer.

Think the acc/big10 series is tied so far, 2 all. Surprised GT lost in Happy Valley. Pit looked strong against an undefeated Terps coming in to game.

We are a turnover machine so far !!

You ask who is better that we could reasonably hire? I think the biggest question is apparently is patience with DD being reasonable? Let me throw a scenario and name out there.

A D1 coach in his first years of taking over a sub par coach has a record of 10-27. His conference record is 2-25 overall. The fanbase is calling for his firing. The AD gives him another year with a similar situation as DD at State. The next year, the team goes 10-2 overall and 8-1 conference. Currently ranks 9th in the nation. The name is Mike MacIntyre, former DC at Duke and current head coach for the University of Colorado.

It can happen with DD. Sometimes being patient does pay off. I agree, there as been improvement. Just needs to equate to more W’s.

Will Never pull for the Cheats no matter how bad DD has our program. Bad enough have listen to them brag after beating us but add fact they helped can our coach…..never…ever root for a baby blue win. I still have hope DD can pull a miracle win like Cutcliff did. One more year of DD is almost worth hearing the Cheats whine after loses to Duke and NC State. Specially if keeps Carolina out of Orlando.

The RB Wilson kid sliced the Cheats like butter. For a small back, it was impressive. Hopefully our coaching staff took note of the Dook game plan……run it with an occasional deep ball to keep them honest. The Cheats could be on a two game losing skid when Pack hits the Hill. And needing a win to tie for Coastal. Hope the Pack spoils their Senior Day. #RedFriday

^ Bopple Head Ross was an Obama puppet, Burr retaining his seat is not surprising to most Cackalackians. But looks like our Republican Gov’ner is on his way out, go figure with Trump taking NC. Rev Barber is happy for a day. I’d rather pull the pin than wallow in hope four more years.

Roo, you still live in the Sanford area? I was raised (still live) on a farm in Sanford area, spend a many day priming the gold leaf in fields that later became Carolina Trace. Was a many night I came home from the fields reeking of Sucker Plucker, Contact 85 and Off Shoot T. It burned, and got in your hair, turned your skin yellow and made everything you ate taste like it. Nobody had any concerns about it back then. We would drink our RC and eat Nabs without washing hands during our field breaks.

Remember well the PCB dumping along our highways, specially down hwy 27 near our school. Everyone wondered what the mysterious slow moving tanker trucks were doing late at night along the unbeaten paths of Lee and Harnett County. My mom worked for a time at one of the many textile mills in Sanford, the old Koury Company. We still have a major player in textiles as one of our main employers, Frontier Spinning Mills. Sanford hasn’t changed much or developed much of an opportunity for our our children. Chicken processing took over some of the textiles, which increased our Hispanic population to near 40%. Chicken plants left, now we have a Mexican restaurant on every other street corner. Progress? Our schools are burdened with Hispanic children, jobs are slim unless you drive south or north of the Cape Fear river. Sanford was/is deep Trump Country.

After the ride home from the game, the season long frustration and the extra hour sleep, I may have to agree…..we are close. If you take out our inept kicking game, we would be talking more about which bowl game rather than which coach will we hire. Was impressed how we held one of the leagues top backs intact with D. Just hate those two last plays had zero chance to succeed. The 4th down was into double coverage and out of bounds. DD rolls with Bambard, he gets fired with Bambard.

Roo, like said in other post, there is no real option. Most us common men are just tired of footing the bill and the notion of needed to foot more. Guess my point is there needs to be accountability amongst the powers to be at NC State, most important the AD. They made this mess, they need to find the $$ money to right it without hurting the common man more.

Its a catch 22, as a common man with LTR seats one cant just decide to wash their hands of the football program. Money is spent, budget is tapped to buy season tics and WPC contribution. Its depressing. As a parent also of a NC State student, student tickets are not free, the cost is added into tuition. Some use it, most choose to not attend games, but its a mandatory fee to all who attend. Point is there is a lot of revenue indirectly for football. How bout the bowl money allotted to schools, is it not shared like the basketball tournament? OK, off my soap box, there is a way out of the financial and football mess besides sticking it to the common man.
