Wolfpack Club, DY, “big money” got who they could afford. They were not willing to pay dollars that search committee identified it would cost. Read the articles of how they “zeroed”in on Keatts! Wish him well, but he was not the “man”. What is the saying, “you are not Mr Right, but you can be Mr Rightnow”!
albunde55ParticipantGuys, I’m a huge Gregg Marshall fan. Please read the USA Today article below.
He was my first choice, we went for the bargain. Hope it works.
albunde55ParticipantPuff,puff, pass, not puff,puff, hold!
albunde55ParticipantIllinois more prestigious than OK State! Possible, but sure 3 mill is more prestigious
than 1 mill.I would leverage Char-grill and Amedeos. What sane person could ignore our “superiority”!
albunde55ParticipantWhy are we failing to hire P5. Money? Facilities? Location? Conference?
In the last 25 years, left Reynolds for the hockey rink! Hired numerous failed coaches. Increased ticket price. Increased budget.
1) Why don’t we have money for P5 coach?
2) If the conference and proximity to competition is problem identified by P5 coaches, then why have we remained
in ACC
3) If BOG is problem, then why not go to courts or legislative process to change?
4) Maybe we could work with Raleigh to make it more attractive.“We keep repeating the same behaviors, expecting different results! Is that not definition of insanity!”
Hope this coach is successful, however “hope is not a strategy”.
albunde55ParticipantIf we are such a tough place to coach, then why a 6 year deal? If he is so good that he will take us to promised land in 3-4 years, why would want to hold him back from a bigger better job outside the ACC! My head hurts!
albunde55Participant^ Wow, you weren’t kidding Yow gave him a 6 year, 2.2 million annually deal. He went from 600K to 2.2 million.
Yes she did, I emailed her that I was available for any open positions in her office or with Wolfpack Club!
Now you know now Maryland went broke!albunde55ParticipantHe gets 2.2 million a year and a 6 year contract as well. His base salary at UNCW was only 300K a year, so I bet he did want a raise up to 2.2 million a year.
Could have gotten behind hire at 1 mill to $1.2 with incentives, They only paid Gott 2 mill in first year!
albunde55ParticipantKeatts $300,000 to 2.2 million! Don’t know why Keatts would jump at job. Gott 2.5 million per year. One thing you can say for sure, is we can find a bargain! Everyone of us needs to wear out Yow’s phone!
albunde55ParticipantSix years 2.2 mil per. Wow
2.2 per year? For 6 years? No way she is that stupid!
albunde55ParticipantHookergate. “I have no recollection of those events”! “It was a rouge assistant”, says everyone associated with Louisville basketball from 2010 to 2013! “Nothing to see here”, move along!
albunde55ParticipantKeats, Keatts, ” rose by any other name, still sucks”!
albunde55ParticipantAgain, I’m confused as hell as to why we even fired Gottfried. Put the athletic dept. in a financial hole for likely a down grade. At least MLB season is less than a month away.
Money forced Yows hand! Money picked Keatts!
albunde55Participant1. If we know Keatts was our two, do we know who was our one?
2. Why in the world are we letting this out if it’s still just an offer?Miller was 1, Keats was 2. He was “Rick Pitino’s lead recruiter”. Was he there during Hookergate? Did not matter he was able to win in the Colonial!
albunde55ParticipantKeats was able to overcome the perineal NCAA sweet 16 powers Hofstra, James Madison, Elon, Drexel, Delaware, William Mary, Towson! Evidently all the quality high school coaches said no to Yow!
albunde55ParticipantMade my phone call to confirm this disaster! It is true, we suck so bad that Keats was identified by the big money as the number 2 guy months ago. Why did we spend money on consultant! Must be careful with my Quotes ” he is a good family guy” not sure now that will help him in recruiting, but the big money thinks that gives him an edge. “He was able to bring people to the games at UNCW”. Wow! “He great recruiter at Louisville”! No Rick Pitino was a great recruiter. This need to be verified, was told that we will get help with buy out because he is an Adidas coach? We must have the only 2 Adidas coaches in NCAA. They did say that it was offer and not competed!
With this said, email to [email protected] to let him know that I am done. Encourage all those who are tired of this crap to do the same.
albunde55ParticipantMiller may not have been asked! They identified Keats weeks ago, maybe months ago!
albunde55ParticipantEnd this misery! Move to SEC, “F” the blues and the ACC!
albunde55ParticipantWith BJD95, 100% opposed to Keats.
albunde55ParticipantDon’t get the tag NC State is a hard job or sell to any coach, specially Archie Miller or even Greg Marshall. There has not been anything to raise the bar in NC State basketball since 1984. Zero Championships…Best we’ve seen is a few sweet 16, one Elite 8 and years of bubble bursting. If a prospective coach can’t handle the pressure to “measure” up to those accomplishments, then he needs to coach in the MEAC. If I was a coach, say like Miller or Marshall, would jump at NC State. Great fanbase, great (be it long ago) basketball tradition, great facilities, and a great conference. Which would come with a guaranteed multi-million dollar salary and incentives for atleast 6 yrs. If don’t work out, 6 years of 4 or more million a year makes for a great retirement portfolio. I see more shame in fearing the opportunity than taking the opportunity and perhaps failing.
Sure the neighborhood is tough, but as a coach, isn’t that what you want? Like a lot have said, come to NC State and succeed, heck least improve, and you will become royality. Beat the blues consistently and perhaps become a legend. Maybe that is the perception that NC State is a tough job, that we the fanbase expect to beat the Blues. At this point, would love to least see a team be competitive with the blues.
That was my point last night! No job in ACC is without expectations!
albunde55ParticipantState is a “tough” job. Sean knows the difference now between being THE “State” (flagship) school and being a “_ State/Tech” school.
The “flagship” usually has the journalism school, law school and med school. The _ State/Tech school often doesn’t.
This doesn’t mean that success can’t be had at the State/Tech schools – it just means that fight an uphill battle. Sean is well-traveled and he knows these things. At Arizona, he knows what it’s like to have the advantages. He knows it was/is much easier to build there than it at NC State.
Based on that rational, then the Ohio State job is just as tough/bad as State!
albunde55ParticipantWhere are all the easy million per year coaching jobs! Assume Ohio State no results required!
