I DO plan on continuing to go to the game. I do plan to critique the coaching staff which I feel is the real issue.
I stayed in my seat last night for both halves and the OT. Had a feeling it was gonna be OT.
Bench lost the game last night. Should have fouled.
We let Dook throw up 15 uncontested shots. Cuse did the same. Gillon had a perfect night. He DID hit some really good shots, but had he been defended, he would NOT have set a PNC record. THAT was PATHETIC…
Here is ONE ranking…..not saying it is the GOSPEL according to Lombardi, but it does NOT look GOOD. #51 overall and #10 in the ACC. OUCH…and DOUBLE OUCH.

I apologize for not wading through all the posts. I shut down my phone at the half. Here are some thoughts after riding home and also listening to the Post Mortem (which WordPress canNOT spell).
Coach Gottfried did NOT mention anything about the LAST Cuse possession during regular play. Why, in the name of Jimmy V., did we NOT foul and let Cuse hit 2 and then be up by ONE and have to be fouled…? Maybe YOU GUYS discussed that and understand it….but I and about 10K other folks could NOT resolve it.
Coach Gottfried had all the stats on their STAR John Gillon. He quoted that he had hit 12 3PT’er in the 9 ACC Games. He got 9 TONGIHT….I thought it was 10, but it does NOT matter. Why did we NOT contest his shots? YES, sometimes a player will step up. It seems like we specialize in making Mediocre Players have a night that will go down in INFAMY and give them and their school something to talk about for generations to come.
The Officiating did take a dramatic turn about mid H2. The Tweetie Birds came out of hibernation. And Mr. Gillon stepped up. NOT saying it was the REF’s fault, but they certainly seemed to be an influence.
Kapita was a NON-Existent Force…but he only got a few minutes. We actually rolled the ball DOWN to let Anya lumber on down and get on Defense….SOMETHING ain’t RIGHT….
Coach Gottfried expressed NO major remorse….it was one of those….you CANNOT win them all….in that when a team gets hot and there were some “questionable calls”, you will LOSE. Excuse me….but when you do NOT have a defensive strategy, you USUALLY DO LOSE….THEM ALL>>>>!!!!!
StateRed44….IF I thought it would go that way, then we SHOULD push for a court Martial. In the end, those of us that mutinied will be given the Code Red.

My gut feel is that we are inconsistent. SO, if we win tonight….What about the coming games or even the weekend?
Defense is NOT in the plan. It has been jawboned to death. We do some SOME enthusiasm from the bench….as one of the coaches jumps up and yells. BUT, he is NOT calling the defense like Lutz did. We can NOT bring back Lutz….unless it was a caretakers role and I do NOT know if he would be up for that….He is VERY competitive and also has a high confidence level. He would probably NOT be willing…but if some substantial bucks were dangled, who knows.
Based on the Wake County Property Tax records, he no longer has a house in Raleigh. His mother, whom I assume is still alive, has AZD, and probably requires special care. He stayed in Raleigh on weekends and did not move until circa 2014….thinking he was pretty set for this stint.
What to do….I haven’t a clue and it will, I think, be up to folks that want to step up and shoulder the financial costs of the hire. Woodson MAY want to enhance our MBB program, but doing that with the current AD and the history….THAT is gonna be a task…

The ONLY problem with your “If we can FUND Reynolds….we can Kick out Gott…”. THAT is in direct defiance (thanks to the Witch Hunt of Valvano and Dr. Monteith and also the politicking of the NC Legislature….thanks to Claude Sitton).The WPC’s charter is for “Capital Programs and Scholarships”. The WPC had to GIVE UP its ability to supplement Coaches. The WPC was the ONLY organization that honored Jimmy V’s “Buy Out” contract Clause. NCSU just said….UP YOURS…
Therefore, there would have to be a SEPARATE and ONE-TIME entity set up (presumably) by the Big Ticket Donors. They would then fund Gott’s “departure” and the entity would be dissolved. It would be done OUTSIDE of the charter and purview of the WPC. NO DONATION TO THE WPC CAN BE USED FOR A COACHES SALARY OR EXPENSES!….
I only quote this because I was told that there WAS a movement developing to “assist” in Coach Doeren’s exit late in the fall. It was, I wuz told, being discussed and there was a LOT of support ($$ committments) to it. It sort of went bye-bye after the UNC game….and the “Endorsement” of Coach Doeren.
SO, there HAS been talk and planning. NOW, is that same group texting or whatever about Coach G? I totally have NO CLUE….and this is NOT to start or confirm or in any way SPECULATE on such.
I am not of the financial resources to contribute and my share would be measured in the 10th decimal place….compared to the High Rollers.

Others may see it differently, but the WPC was somewhat “neutered” when all the stones were being cast at Jimmy V. Ironic, ain’t it. Remember that Dr. Monteith (and Todd Turner….GAG) also set HIGHER academic standards for Athletes than for the Student Body as a whole. That finally got pulled….
The view from 214 ain’t much better….if any. BOTH are depressing. Admittedly, the view of the upper decks of the Carrier Dome were equally bad. They had virtually closed off the 2nd and 3rd levels. FSU still got beat.

Not certain which section you took that from, but there was one game recently where my DW made the came comment. Take a picture of this crowd and send it to DY. There ain’t NOBODY here. LOTS of paid seats with no BUTTS in them. Lot of GOOD, high $$ paid seats included in the coveted “Bowl Area”. It DOES look like there are more folks on the Bench side of the Bowl than on the Press Side, so it does not look as bad as it is.Gottfried certainly has NOT built up the attendance that one would have expected with his stable of Blue Chippers compared to Mediocre Herbie and “you ain’t filling the PNC Lowe”. I doubt that we will make any “headlines” with 2017….but again, the NCAA publishes PAID attendances….
Wonder how UNC records theirs….last time I looked at the box scores for UNC, they were in even hundreds or maybe thousands…

With absolutely NO disrespect to your credentials and your insight in the REAL world of athletics, which very few of us have….I sort of wonder about your statement…

I don’t argue with his success….and that got him a few extra, well deserved, sheckles as the Sweet 16 is a Bonus item. I went to St. Louis and we fought hard….KU was just too strong.
BUT, that was when we also had a defense as well as an offense. I THINK that you pointed out in some previous posts about needing to be able to DEFEND to WIN. We can’t seem to keep any continuity….maybe, as you have self confessed, our inexperienced players are chasing skirts and not focused. No matter HOW I dissect it, there is a lapse of coaching savvy. MAYBE it will turn around…..but the damage is done…
As to the comments about the PNC being vacant. The damage will be in the upper deck. The seats in the 100 level (bowl) are sold for LTR’s and the businesses and individuals that have them will continue to buy them. My LTR’s in the Champions Club are safe….I WILL keep buying them. I have too much invested to cut and run. We enjoy the games and the meals and the fellowship there with others and our family. There are a LOT of folks like us.

UP 4.1% Compared to Lowe
UP 0.2% Compared to SendekOK, I looked it up and Excel did it as above. Apologies for the format…don’t know how to do charts and tables here. The reason for Lowe’s departure was LOW ATTENDANCE. THAT was the “deciding” factor for not giving him ONE more year. Sidney had a great first year with Herbie’s boys….as did Gottfried with his first year of Sidney’s boys. BUT, we have also had some really talented players and they have not meshed (some….or perhaps MORE than some DEPARTED). Our attrition rate is much higher (figuratively speaking…..someone can do charts and tables) than perhaps any other ACC school.
NOW, add in the raw talent that we have had and played….and our results are not earth shaking. I would have thought that Gottfried would have increased about 15% over Lowe and 10% over Sendek. NOPE. There is NO data on the “scanned” or turnstile attendance. THAT is a DEEP DARK SECRET….
BOTB will have to find a line to quote….I don’t see much improvement….and I STILL think that we are not getting what we should out of our players. Lutz coming back? Not gonna happen. Making a $5 Million dollar move. That is GT’s record….they are paying THREE coaches this year….only TWO next year.
Who knows. Will be in the PNC on Wednesday and see WHAT team and WHAT energy level and WHAT defense and WHATEVER shows up. Maybe Abu and Kapita did NOT pray enough during the 6 day layoff….
I did a little more googling this morning. I THINK (never trust a late night post….at least from me) that the numbers on Archie are “in the ball park”. NOW, some have posted that he has a WAIVER for NCSU. Since the terms of his contract seem to be VERY sketchy, I can NOT verify that. As a matter of fact, the ONLY school discussed was PITT and BOTH Arizona and Dayton deny that there are specific “school” waivers for both the Miller laddies.
The comment about 6 days and still not being prepared….probably is the most telling.

State has NOT done diddly squat (a term applied to a puny BM?) after a big loss. We then revert to old habits. That was true of Lowe as well as Gottfried. I have NO insight into the team or the locker room mood. BUT, it seems like Gott’s magic with Lowe’s recruits was totally used up and the Genie in the Red Lamp in the 2010-11 season and the Genie has a “Do NOT Disturb” sign. He (she?) will no longer come out and grant wishes. Maybe Elizabeth was the MAGIC CHARM….and she threw in the towel.
Bringing back Lutz? I guess that would be thinking outside the box. I don’t know if he WOULD come back. Then there is this little thing known as BUYOUT. You can NOT reneg on a BUYOUT….unless there is Just Cause (which we MAY have had early in 2013 or so, but turned a Blind Eye to it). NOW, save some criminal action or addiction issue or major NCAA violation, you HAVE to honor the contract.
W & L records are NOT usually included as “Contract Waivers”….if they were or if you said…”You did NOT deliver…” and then refused to pay, no coach would ever sign up….save a few miscreants….so it is what it is.
If Gottfried continues down this path, he is going to tarnish the good done by AD Yow. I do NOT have the answer. I don’t KNOW if Dr. Woodson will take action. We is fornicated….and did not even get Kissed or get Dinner and a Movie….
In all fairness, the folks in the Top Ten had a week of upsets and inconsistencies….save Gonzaga….Mr. Hamiliton done lost TWO….
No matter HOW good your Offensive Juggernaut is….poor Defense will negate and overrule that…
Someone asked about Gottfried buyout. His contract extends through the 2019/20 Season. Therefore AFTER this season (painfully so) is over, he has THREE more years. His Guaranteed BASE or Annual salary is $760K. That translates to $2,280K….or almost 2.3 Million. That is fact. It AIN’T gonna change unless Gottfried gets a few DWI’s or maybe goes political and supports some Trump policies….
As to Archie Miller…..he is probably in the $1.2 – $1.4 Million range. Here was a SI sport (June 2016) that said he was well OVER $1 Million TWO YEARS AGO (2014). He got ANOTHER raise in March, 2016…..and his contract was extended to 2023. SO, do the math.
Gottfried gets about 30% or his compensation in his BASE or Guaranteed. He has OTHER bonuse or incentives, but he will make $2,485 Million….just for showing up.
SO, if Archie is making $1.3….then he would get, based on the 30% Guaranteed that Gottfried gets), around $400K. BUT, he has SIX more years on HIS contract. BINGO, you are at $2.4 MILLION. NOW, even if DY PAID THIS, Archie would still have to PONY UP the Federal and State Tax on it. You can NOT pay the institution. it MUST come from the Coach. DY gave Doeren the $$ to get out of his, but he had to pay TAX on it….it is INCOME. There are no fancy Tax Evasion strategies….it is INCOME. THAT has been tested in many courts.
SO, Archie would probably owe around ONE MILLION. HE would need a SUBSTANTIAL increase….and NCSU would be out almost $5 MILLION.
It AIN’T GONNA HAPPEN….unless we win a Powerball Lottery….

Let’s see…..I think I see a few similarities.
Boss gets hacked. Does not like job or results of subordinate(s). Tweets furiously in middle of night. Calls in staff to chew them out. Revokes privileges. Only thing missing is that team has to wear a Scarlet (as in NCSU RED) L at all times.
Bosses are about 70. Bosses are high earners….one is Billionaire. Other earns almost TWICE what any of his peers (College coaches….FB or BB) earns.
Both are defiant….one has a Military Background and his Mentor LOVES the OTHER BOSS. Secretly, some believe that one boss actually DOES have his counterpart’s Make America Great Again Red hat….except it is a Custom one in Dark Blue with White stitching.
Both feel that their “team” has not lived up to their full potential and that they need to have micromanagement to achieve their goals.
I wonder if BOTH of them have ever studied and read about Jimmy V and how he could “mesmerize” a crowd or figure out how to fix things or manage his resources as the “Game” evolved?
Looks like a perfect opportunity for Grayson Allen to rise to the top and become the leader who salvaged the season so that he DOES get all his perceived Pre-Season honors.
If you look back in history, the young Allen has a certain “Fletcher Christian” swagger about him. Coach K is becoming more of a Captain William Bligh. Ever wonder WHY the laddies rallied around Mr. Bligh?

The first paragraph makes it clear…..the laddies did NOT want to march to the beat of Captain Bligh’s drum. They were like many of the so called “Enlightened Ones” of today. Sort of like the Grasshopper’s. Live life to the fullest and let others pay for your pleasures and then threaten and demand “entitlements” to sustain your lifestyle….while never contributing to the community bounty.

Watched the Noles vs Rambling Wrecks. Wrecks sure did shut down the Noles. Leonard did NOT look like a happy FSU coach. Wonder if FSU read too many of their clippings were DYING to move up in the ratings and they spent too much time on where they MIGHT land than on the game…

BUT, the game of the NIGHT. Ricky Ticky Barnes (a Hickory native) pulls out a win over Cal of Kentucky (#4) 82 – 80. Reminded me of a game that I saw last night and also watched the last 5 minutes again tonight.
BUT, #1 Villanova gets taken out by unranked Marquette. 74 – 72…
And Billy Self of KU (#2) gets whipped by #18 WVU….85 – 69
All in all, a real shakeup of the top 3 out of 4 teams.

As much as I hate to lose…I cannot get really upset at Coach K. Read The Legends book. Coach K was Jimmy V’s most loyal friend at the end.
Regardless of how much I have complained, as a fan, about Coach K’s dominance as a coach and his influence on the Zebs, as a person, I totally admire him.
Les Robinson’s Cameron record is 1 & 0, against Pete Gaudet. Gottfried’s Cameron record is 1 & 0 against Capel.
I think Jimmy V was the last NCSU coach to defeat Coach K in Cameron.
Footnote. Google Pete Gaudet. He did not return to Duke in 1996. He will be the patron Saint for all Assistant Coaches because of his class action suit.
We won. I thought we would get plastered. My hat’s off to the team and maybe even the coaching staff.
NOT ready to pop for the Reynolds Tile yet….but I sure feel a LOT better. Walking around Reynolds yesterday rekindled some of the old love….even though I feel that I was cheated on.
Smith showed poise and the ability to score. His 6 assists were a little on the weak side, but his 32 points probably make up for it.
We got 2 of the top 10’s on SC tonight. Smith’s Bullet pass was #4.
What do we do for an encore. Beats me.

Mikey will never forgive Capel. At least it was not on HIS watch. I was a mere 49 YO when we last beat Duke in Cameron and my son was going to graduate from UNC Law….Yes, I do remember the game.
If you listened to any of the radio broadcast, my advice would be for Tony Haynes to be put, temporarily, on GOTT’s staff. His vision and understanding of whats going on…on the court….far exceeds some of the assistants….as well as our ancient consultant.
Gottfried’s dad being there was cool….he was making notes the entire game.

I watched the USC game right after coming home from the WFU Fiasco. Guess who was officiating. KH of course. I guess that the SEC was more forgiving. I would have thought that Jamie Luckie (not for us) would have been more “prejudiced” and taken out Karl’s wrath on Mr. Manning and company since if was WFU that got him Personna Non Gratta in the ACC ranks.
He had his usual crazy sideways side saddle gait…..and his “presence” was like a shining meteor (Right before it hit Planet Earth)….
BUT, I did, for a few fleeting nanoseconds, long to see him again….or perhaps INSTEAD of Mr. Luckie. With our luck, we will have Mr. Luckie tonight so that the ACC would not have to incur additional travel.

No, I had to attend a funeral and that was more entertaining and less disheartening than the game. TRUE STORY.
And now you know why my kids send me sympathy cards on our anniversary. I once sent my wife’s bosses cards on Bosses Day.
Interesting…..wonder if Bobby Lutz gets promoted from a Scout or whatever Coach to an assistant that he will take note. Certainly no danger that our current coaching staff would be fined…..since Defense is something that is rarely talked about in practice….and if so, in hushed tones so as not to interfere with our Offensive Juggernaut and plant unneeded ideas into our stars’ heads….
