I’ve used the Tunein app a lot. Seems to work fairly well. Occasionally I use the website on my computer instead of the phone app. The website works less well than the app.

So somebody who watched the game tell me (I listened on radio app): Did we even try to run the UCLA high-post offense? It didn’t sound like it. Seemed like we drove and dished, ran a bunch of pick and rolls, but from the descriptions it seemed like we gave up on our “signature” offense.

Methinks that’s a good thing, because it doesn’t play to our strengths – which seem to be Cat and Lacey probing, dishing, trying to break down the D.

Don’t know where we’ll wind up. But for all the weeping and gnashing of teeth and wearing of sackcloth and ashes, I was wondering about the applicability of the high-post offense in the modern era of short-term basketball players.

In days of yore Wooden had players for three years (plus a year of schooling them during their freshman JV year) to teach that offense. With skilled big men it’s beautiful to watch, and I love interior passing by tall people when done right. But is it feasible to teach that offense now?

I sat under the State basket during the Tech game. Looked like Abu and Kyle had a nice flow and feel for each other. But it didn’t last long. At least a couple of times we tried it later in the game, and they just fumbled everything away. Several times later in the game big guys just fumbled things away, though. And at least twice I remember pick-and-roll plays where it looked like the roll guy was open and the guard just ignored him.

Or maybe our big guys just aren’t that good. The thought of Anya and Freeman passing to each other with defensive arms swinging around inside does kind of scare me.

Was at the game, and like everybody saw, first half was night and day from the second. We actually looked like an offense in the first half. More high-low action than I’ve seen in a while, working the ball inside, passing out of the post and then back in. Kyle and Abu seemed to be getting comfortable working together.

Then in the second half two guards pass the ball back and forth on the perimeter or dribble it away. And Kyle reverts to pretty much taking only the longest 2-point shots possible. It truly is frustrating. Don’t know if I’ll drive up for the Clemson game.

Don’t know what to say. The only half of basketball I can remember that was this atrocious was the Dudley Bradley game. Gloom, despair and agony on me.

I’ve never been anti-Gott. But after last night I really have trouble defending him. I’m not smart enough to know if Archie is “the man” some claim him to be. Could be, I just don’t know.

Actually, I don’t even watch a lot of State games. I listen to them on a radio app. Occasionally I’ll go to a sports bar and a friend’s house, but I can’t justify spending $100 a month to watch a few games here and there. The game really has gotten ugly.

There’s no need to change any of the rules. Just start calling the hacking, grabbing, bumping and virtual love-making in the lane. It will be NCCU ugly for a while, but the kids will adjust. I didn’t even watch rasslin’ as a kid – a rarity in the Sandlapper state.
