Before that Turner 3 had the Pack only scored 3 points in the 8 minutes of the second half?

Everyone had to have seen the change in officiating completely changing during halftime. That’s what is so frustrating, they are intentionally inconsistent in how they officiate.

You can add comments to the preview entry from the forums. Thus we shouldn’t need a separate thread.

^True, but I was referring mostly to having to load the images and scroll on each page (first world problems, I know). But it’s all good :)

What he’s saying is if you go through the forums then the content of my preview doesn’t show up (just the comments) as opposed to going through the main page.

I remember a post a few weeks ago where the poster made a good point. What if the fellas are reading these forums? What if they saw the lack of faith people have in them? Could that be contributing to their lack of confidence on the court?

If that were true then we’re more screwed than we all think we are.

    Foose,

You’ve missed the point completely. I’ve never said he hasn’t improved. What I’ve said from the beginning, remember the beginning was about next year and needing a vast improvement of freshman to sophomore the likes of which we’ve never seen and it was stated that TJ and Lewis had vast improvement. My rebuttal was they haven’t had a vast improvement and showed Warren’s tempo free stats from last year to this year as evidence. If you’re not familiar with Tempo Free Stats on an individual level then here’s a quick breakdown of them. Every player is judged on efficiency related to possessions and as such historically every player has a curve, this curve is efficiency vs possessions, and at some point the more possessions they have the less efficient they become. Last year Warren was highly efficient with fewer possessions, this year his efficiency has decreased due to a large increase in possessions. At some point between the possession rates of last year and this year his efficiency peaked and started to decline, as all players do. To further my point I suggested that maybe Gottfried screwed up in his evaluation of Warren’s talent level within the team vs Leslie’s and as such didn’t utilize Warren correctly last year, i.e. Gottfried backed the wrong horse. My point is and always has been that even though we may think we are seeing a vastly improved Warren (“eye test”, “common sense”, “Forest/trees”, “fruit salad”) that per his TFS (actual measurable facts) he already was good and now has been able to show it because he is thee focal point of the offense. Sure losing the weight likely improved his stamina on the court to allow longer minutes per game without sacrificing production but his yearly stats say he was already a great player and wasn’t utilized enough last year.

    Jigs – come on man.

You think tj lost all that weight to get a modeling gig? You’ve played sports right?

On a golf course, the par 3s almost are always ranked easiest on the course only because its a lot easier to put together 3 good shots in a row than 4 or 5 in a row. I run a 5k at a much faster pace than a 10k. I do really well (vs. The field) in a sprint triathlon, but my times don’t hold up for an Olympic one.

The bottom line is that one of the main reasons kids go pro early is because the longer you play the more your flaws are exposed. Its the same reason most rookies hit the “wall”.

Don’t let stats cloud common sense judgement.

Seriously chop, WTH does that have to do with anything I’ve said?

Common sense?? How’s this for common sense. Warren was an efficient scoring small forward with limited possesions getting most of his offense off of offensive rebounds as a freshman because Gottfried chose to run the offense through CJ Leslie.

This year he’s greatly increased his possessions because Gottfried is running the offense through Warren this year yet he still gets a fair amount of his points from offensive rebounding. He’s not as efficient scoring because of the increase in workload. Common sense says if he had more possessions last year he would have scored more.

How about this for the forest. Maybe Gottfried didn’t know what the hell he was doing last year by running the offense through CJ instead of TJ. Ever think of that? No, you guys want to ignore all stats except what fits your agenda. I draw conclusions from the stats, not the other way around.

If several of you want to ignore stats so that you can judge events through a prism then that’s your prerogative.

I stated an opinion that maybe Warren hasn’t drastically improved from last year because of how he was used by Gottfried and I backed it up with facts. The rebuttal was but he passes the “eye test”.

I thought I’d take a look at the various sites to see how we fared from this weekends results and how other bubble teams are doing. It’s pretty dang obvious that we got zero help and playing VT, even on the road, hurt us as will playing BC/Miami. No if’s, and’s, or but’s about it, State MUST win a couple of Top 25ish games to have any chance at the NCAAT. Only 2, maybe 3, opportunities left to earn a spot.

^ The only thing I’ll say about

      that

is… If you tell a sophomore that you’re expecting him to carry a team – and he delivers – that qualifies as “improvement”. Because only a select few could deliver the goods the way TJ Warren has.

Then what you’re saying is if Warren would have been the focal point of the offense last year with those numbers he wouldn’t have produced similar results as this year?

Jigawatts, I appreciate your number crunching. Thanks for all you do. But I do say those two showed strong improvement at least by the eye-test. Buckets was awesome last year, scoring easily when defenses keyed on Brown, Lesley, Scott and trying to block Howell out. But this year, when defenses are keying on him he is bringing as well as anyone in conference.
And I would say that Lewis has developed/improved his leadership game management skills but boy does his shot need work.

I did open by saying I was the eternal optimist so …
I do think Gottfried has this team on the right path. Next year could be as tough as this year though.

Damn, I always forget to administer the “eye-test”

85EE, either you disagreed with my point or missed where I wrote that Warren went from the 5th scoring option to THEE focal point of the offense and how that is answering an unknown and not an improvement. If Warren was THEE focal point of the offense both years and his scoring increased with no additional possessions then that would be an improvement. Frankly we can’t tell if he improved because we’re not comparing apples to apples. One thing we do know is his efficiency has decreased due to a very large increase in possessions.

I see a few folks are still writing to this thread so I thought I would throw my eternally optimistic 2 cents in.

It was mentioned that next year we are counting on freshman to sophomore improvement the likes of which we have not seen before. Sure that it will never happen. My answer- two names Warren and Lewis.

Freeman not done much lately? Are you seeing his rebound per minutes #. Very good for a freshman.

Dez and Turner, well, OK Turner started in a slump and is streaky. Dez needs to play under control. This would be a place to get Cat more time but all three need to bring out their best. Right Now, else we have more than one loss coming up.

I was the one who said it about sophomores and I’ll stand by it.

    Warren:
    Year 1: 18.7 (Poss/Game), 125.4 (ORtg), 9.6 (OR%), 8.1 (DR%), .542 (FT%), .632 (2FG%), .519 (3FG%)
    Year 2: 32.0 (Poss/Game), 112.7 (ORtg), 10.4 (OR%), 12.8 (DR%), .693 (FT%), .578 (2FG%), .297 (3FG%)

    Lewis:
    Year 1: 15.9 (Poss/Game), 113.9 (ORtg), 17.9 (AST%), 19.1 (TO%), .859 (FT%), .420 (2FG%), .292 (3FG%)
    Year 2: 17.6 (Poss/Game), 100.9 (ORtg), 32.4 (AST%), 16.4 (TO%), .778 (FT%), .438 (2FG%), .136 (3FG%)

So what about Warren has shown you a tremendous improvement? The only thing that was unknown about him was could he carry the load when he would now be the focal point of the offense? He’s proven that but how could that be classified as an improvement? His scoring is up because he’s taking a hell of a lot more shots.

As for Lewis he is thriving against the zone defenses. He has nearly doubled his assist rate while reducing his turnover rate in addition to a few more possessions per game. So while he has improved in that fashion, which is critical for a PG, he has regressed as any type of scorer…not that he was much of one to begin with.

Most players have improved. Exceptions – Des has stagnated, Vandy has badly regressed, and Cat is going full Kenny Drummond.

I would add Freeman to the list of those that have stagnated/not improved. I was impressed for a while but he seems to be doing nothing lately.

Ever since I mentioned Freeman deserving of some of Washington’s time they both have gone in opposite directions. Anya coming in so overweight has really ruined his year though I do wish he’d get more of Vandy’s minutes, at least enough of them before he becomes a negative on the court. BSW is the epitome of the original, hot and cold, never know what you’re going to get from game to game or within it.

As VaWolf already said, we’re looking for new information to change what is reality.

    So when I see reality…

…I don’t convince myself into thinking it’s this:
