Tuesday Night Finals:
GT 67 SU 62
CU 58 UM 54
MD 64 VT 47
FSU 74 BC 70With the Miami loss the bottom 6 can’t get higher than 10th. With the Clemson win they can’t get worse than 6th. That leaves FSU, NCSU, and MD playing for 7-9 but all will be playing on Thursday.
At least the weekend sets up nicely for us to watch games with interest to see how the seeding will unfold:
Sat: 2:00 Wake @ Miami (miami win equals 10 seed)
Sat: 4:00 Pitt @ Clemson (winner gets 5 seed, loser gets 6 seed)
Sat: 9:00 UNC @ Duke (ESPN)
Sun: 12:00 UVA @ MD (CBS) (a MD loss locks them in the 9 seed)
Sun: 2:00 SU @ FSU
Sun: 6:00 BC @ NCSU (ESPNU)Need the following if UNC beats Duke:
SU over FSU, NCSU over BC
(2) SU, (3) UNC, (4) DU, (7) NCSU, (8) FSU, (9) MDNeed the following if Duke beats UNC:
FSU over SU, NCSU over BC
(2) DU, (3) SU, (4) UNC, (7) FSU, (8) NCSU, (9) MD
This scenario would give NCSU another Top 50 RPI win because FSU should be in the top 50 heading into the ACCT.Of course all of this seed watching is predicated on NCSU playing, and winning, on Friday against UVA or SU.
Just a refresher on new ACCT format:
7 vs 10/15 winner
8 vs 9So if the Pack finishes 7th then 10th could be Miami/WF/ND/GT (VT has locked up #16 and IF NCSU beats BC then BC will be #15) but likely Miami will be 7th and we’ve all seen how bad NCSU plays against them, even without the hangover.
If the Pack finishes 8th or 9th they’ll be playing MD on Thursday, Unless FSU loses to SU and MD beats UVA then MD has the tie-breaker over FSU for splitting against UVA so then it would be (7)MD, (8)FSU, (9)NCSU.
Hey, we have to have some reason to care right?
1.21 JigawattsKeymaster“That’s all we got, one damn player?”
“You can’t say damn on the internet.”
“Don’t worry, nobody is looking anyway.”1.21 JigawattsKeymasterI weep for next year.
1.21 JigawattsKeymasterOnly State can give an entire team a career night while they have been playing like crap.
1.21 JigawattsKeymasterFinal 80-40 Pitt
Warren with 38
1.21 JigawattsKeymasterAt least they are letting us know early not to stay up late.
1.21 JigawattsKeymasterDidn’t get this in the article but…
Series Notes:
– NC State leads series with a record of 9-2
– Pitt is 1-0 against NC State at home. 89-75 (1/23/1971)1.21 JigawattsKeymasterNo we aren’t. I’m too busy to continue debating you and anything else I’m likely to say will end up having a personal attack on you so it’s best for me to just stop.
1.21 JigawattsKeymasterI’ve got no problem with the concept at all.
1.21 JigawattsKeymasterI understand. It’s all very confusing.
No, that’s not it at all. Trust me.
1.21 JigawattsKeymasterWow, simply wow.
1.21 JigawattsKeymasterWe* had 10 turnovers.
We* missed 18 2s.
We* missed 15 3s.
We* missed 12 freethrows.10 + 18 + 15 + 12 = 55 opportunities to win.
1.21 JigawattsKeymasterYou’re implying that if a foul had been called he would have scored. By the way YOU wrote it, one wrong call = points.
He missed a free throw after that call that would have made it at worst, a tie.
Why is your assertion any more valid that my assertion?
Why is it so hard for you to admit that we had opportunities to win?
Excuse me but you said, by your equation, that a TO equals Pts. If a missed FG is a missed opportunity then a made FG is a made opportunity. Per you a TO is a missed opportunity thus no TO has to equal points, since a made opportunity equals points.
Your assertion is the Pack had multiple opportunities to win the game. I agree and as such one of those opportunities was taken away from them by the officials. Thus the Pack actually did make enough opportunities to win but the refs changed the outcome of the game by changing your formula.
You still haven’t answered the question was the TO correctly called?
1.21 JigawattsKeymasterI’ve decided to search my feelings and use the eye test while using my common sense to eat my fruit cocktail coming to the conclusion it’s TJs fault. He should have known he was going to get fouled but it would be a TO on him. Heck he was one of the 10 turnovers pakfanistan pointed out and as such he cost them the game because that TO was one more chance they could have scored but didn’t.
He’s trapped in the corner of the court. Why does he even have the ball there where the sideline can act as a third defender? Wouldn’t it be better to be somewhere you could dribble out of trouble or pass to a teammate? Would that not be a valid way to win? I’m not saying it’s his fault, but again, we* had opportunities.
I totally agree with Pakfanistan. You look at his stats he’s saying if the pack would have made 1 more basket that they missed, 2 more FTs, or 1 less TO then the pack would have won the game. So the refs couldn’t possibly be responsible. Right!?!
Actually, all I’m saying we* had opportunities to win, but feel free to pretend like having more points isn’t a valid way to do that.
You guys act like we never benefit from a questionable call.
*we = the team
He wasn’t on the sideline until after trying to dribble he didn’t have full control so instead of making a mistake he picked the ball up like any basketball player would. He just happened to be on the sideline after regaining enough control to pick it up.
As for for having more points isn’t valid now you’re putting words in my mouth. I was agreeing with you. You said:
We* had 10 turnovers.
We* missed 18 2s.
We* missed 15 3s.
We* missed 12 freethrows.10 + 18 + 15 + 12 = 55 opportunities to win.
By the way you wrote it you’re implying all are equal, Points and Turnovers, and with no disclaimers that anytime during the game is just as equal. So by definition one less TO would have been one more opportunity to win and since a TO = PTS then one less TO would equal a win. By that logic if Warren wouldn’t have committed the TO in the video the Pack would have won the game.
Was the TO in the video correctly called?
1.21 JigawattsKeymasterIt’s not like we have any evidence the refs made such an egregious call that it could possibly effect those stats and the final outcome of the game. Do we??
1.21 JigawattsKeymasterI totally agree with Pakfanistan. You look at his stats he’s saying if the pack would have made 1 more basket that they missed, 2 more FTs, or 1 less TO then the pack would have won the game. So the refs couldn’t possibly be responsible. Right!?!
1.21 JigawattsKeymasterI’ve decided to search my feelings and use the eye test while using my common sense to eat my fruit cocktail coming to the conclusion it’s TJs fault. 1.21 JigawattsKeymasterSTATS!!!!!! Nope, not listening.
1.21 JigawattsKeymasterGuess TJ didn’t know which team was supposed to win and needed some help.
1.21 JigawattsKeymasterI disagree that TJW has nothing to prove. This year he is still getting snubbed in the national spotlight. If he were to comeback I think it could be the difference between a mid to late first round and high first rd.
The NBA doesn’t give a flip what the media thinks about players, who they promote, who they snub. They evaluate players on their own and have their own criteria for who can play. If a single team who happens to have a lottery pick believes in what they see in Warren and have a need for him then they’ll take him.
1.21 JigawattsKeymasterRick, I would like to officially welcome you to my world of debating on SFN. Maybe it’s the other way around but “peas and carrots” and all that.
1.21 JigawattsKeymasterI should have taken my own advice and never turned on the game.
No smart basketball player, particularly one who understands his importance to his team, reaches and swats and puts himself in a position to get called for silly, inconsequential fouls.
If I recall you might be referring to the reach in foul call on Warren after he missed a hasty 3pt attempt and I think it was his 4th. If this is the case I was yelling at the tv too that no one should even attempt this because you’ll get called for it every time. I also saw the replay of this particular play and saw that he cleanly poked the ball away from the unc player and into Turner’s hands, Brandt and Gminski even said that wasn’t a foul. Now was that a foul call because they expected him to foul when reaching in? Or were they just not paying attention and called because they saw a reach? Either way it was a clean steal but he was called for a foul and Warren needed to be smarter and not go for that particular steal because the refs are biased to calling a foul on most people if they see you reach in like that from behind after a missed shot.
This is one reason we gave up 30+ to Paige in one half.
The biggest reason I saw for Paige being so open was Turner and his nonexistent defense. I can’t tell you how many times I saw him completely lost on the court and had no idea where Paige was, who just happened to be on the other side of the court from Turner, all alone. Not only was he lost multiple times but numerous times I saw him give up on keeping up with Paige or getting around the screens.
As for the refs and end of game, we screwed the pooch by not playing any defense on Paige and stopping him from going to his left for the easy lay up. It also never should have come down to it because of the non-calls by the refs at the end of regulation and OT.
As for TJ, I’ve never seen a superstar player not get the benefit of the doubt in call after call. He goes up for a shot and somehow loses the ball in mid-flight? Must be a bad player. Think Parker gets a foul call on that play? Think Fair gets the foul call when the ball goes out of bounds when a player has his hands on you?
1.21 JigawattsKeymasterPlenty of time for Paige to win it.
1.21 JigawattsKeymasterThey fouled Warren. Grabbed his arm.
1.21 JigawattsKeymasterThe cheats are holding on the screens for Paige.
