Damnit Lacey!!! We can’t legitimately bitch and complain if you’re winning
1.21 JigawattsKeymasterHere’s a helpful tip of the night: When coaching 5/6 year old basketball and you’re going in full speed for a layup during practice don’t run into the concrete bleacher behind the basket. Your shin will thank you for it.
1.21 JigawattsKeymasterIf I wear Invictus do I have to hold the trophy on my shoulder as I walk around without my shirt on or can I just carry the trophy at my side?
1.21 JigawattsKeymasterNice “defense” there pack. sheesh
1.21 JigawattsKeymasterOur ‘good loss’ is in jeopardy.
We need to start airing our grievances before tip-off from now on. 🙂
1.21 JigawattsKeymasterSigh. Taking things for how they are according to facts and data equals saying stupid shit ‘this was a good loss!’ ?
K.
No but simply put there’s no such thing as a “good loss”, all losses are bad. You get nothing for losing no matter who it’s too and by how much.
1.21 JigawattsKeymasterAnyone want to bet that’s a Charge if State was wearing a shade of blue?
1.21 JigawattsKeymasterWonder if this is going to be another “good loss”?
Snort
How many “good losses” do you need to get to make the NCAAT? That’s what I want to know.
1.21 JigawattsKeymasterWonder if this is going to be another “good loss”?
1.21 JigawattsKeymasterThere’s that weak 5 feet off the shooter hold out your hand but cheating towards the basket defense. Glad it works so well.
1.21 JigawattsKeymasterEven if State magically starts making shots it doesn’t matter, we still can’t defend our way out of a wet paper sack.
1.21 JigawattsKeymasterHow in the world does Washington position himself to allow his teammate to take him out of position on defense when no one else is around?
1.21 JigawattsKeymasterIn all seriousness we no longer run the UCLA high post in the half court, it’s always a 1-3-1 zone offense and we suck at it. Not sure if it’s the players, the coaches, or both but it needs to be scrapped and replaced with something Gottfried is supposed to have apprenticed under.
1.21 JigawattsKeymasterThe announcer is a big Seinfeld fan with all the Festivus references. More entertaining than the game. If the second half doesn’t improve we’ll all be airing our grievances.
1.21 JigawattsKeymasterI just got a good laugh out of the color commentator saying Gottfried will apply some pressure on LT.
1.21 JigawattsKeymasterwe go from the weave’n’heave to the scatter’n’shoot
1.21 JigawattsKeymasterCan someone explain to me what the hell offense we are now running because it sure as hell isn’t the UCLA high post?
1.21 JigawattsKeymasterI cannot get EXPN3 on my computer or xbox to work.
I got it to work on y phone. EXPN sucks. So do we.You’d be better off not getting it at all. I’ve seen better play from pick up games at the gym.
1.21 JigawattsKeymasterHere the thing.
If a team plays that ultra aggressive defense they do get called for fouls…
But…
The refs are NOT going to allow there to be a huge fouls foul disparity. So the other team is going to get called for fouls also even though they are not fouling add much add the aggressive team.
Coaches have figured this out and are taking advantage of our.The opposite also applies, if the other team isn’t trying to foul, while the refs will call fouls on them to keep it close, they also won’t call every foul on the ultra aggressive team.
1.21 JigawattsKeymasterAnya totally out of position on Defense because he stands still and then clearly fouls on the shot block attempt.
1.21 JigawattsKeymaster1.21 JigawattsKeymasterThat was a foul when he reached through Cat under the basket to take away the ball.
1.21 JigawattsKeymaster1.21 JigawattsKeymasterA Quick look at the game against Wofford and some things that stand out…
1. The tallest player for Wofford was 6-7 and yet Wofford grabbed 89% of their defensive rebounds. Folks that means State grabbed 11% (3 out of 26 missed shots) offensive rebounds. That’s what I call playing small and a contributing factor in the loss.
2. On the flipside Wofford grabbed 23% of their missed shots, which means State grabbed 77% of their defensive rebounds. Again, playing small and a contributing factor in the loss.
3. Wofford had 60 possessions in the game and State only forced 4 TO’s = 6.8%. Contributing factor in loss.
4. With 11:00 left in the game, State holding a 43-34 lead, Wofford had a 5.1% chance of winning the game. That’s what I call a “bad loss”.So far during this short season State has mainly struggled when possessions are <65 for the game with a record of 3-2, the 2 losses coming from Wofford (60 possessions) and Purdue (59). Meaning State struggles against teams that slow it down, grind it out, and force State from its strength to its weakness. For the record the 3 wins were USF (68-65 / 65 possessions), Richmond (84-72 / 64), and Boise State (60-54 / 62).
Stats are a tool, if you use the right one for the right situation you can help diagnose where the problem is and try to fix it instead of wasting time in areas that don’t need it as much. You can’t be good at all facets of the game but you need to be great at 3 of them. My personal opinion is if this team can’t operate in the half court offense better then they need to force more TO’s and push the tempo to their strength, which is their speed and athleticism. Here’s what I would focus on with State’s personnel:
1. Transition Offense
2. Rebounding
3. Pressure Defense to create TO’s.Being great at #2 and #3 feeds #1.
At this moment, in most games, State is only great at 2 of the 3. Depending on the level of competition 2 out of 3 can get you a double digit win or a nail-biter. If you’re only 1 out of 3 that can be a close loss or getting blown out.
1.21 JigawattsKeymasterIMHO raw rebounding numbers are the worst measure of a team that is used waaayyyyy too much. Looking at rebounding percentages is a much more effective tool because it takes into account tempo but more importantly how well both teams are shooting. For example a team could be shooting 80% for the game and getting all of their offensive rebounds but since it would be a low number people would say they are a poor rebounding team.
So looking at the too early to tell stats State is actually pretty good to really good in all aspects of the game except 2:
1. Forcing TOs. This is particularly frustrating because it’s a trait of Gottfried’s teams and yet his team’s flurish in the fast break offense.
2. Assist/FGM. This is showing the lack of command our team has in distributing the ball. -
