    Gott….See ya. Thanks for the marketing and recruiting efforts. We must find an actual coach.

    I know everyone was excited about the Duke win (I was just because I thought it might be a spark) but Duke is a very weak team at the current moment. Heck they only lucked up at WF and were dominated in that game also. Something must happen in the change department and it must happen THIS year! The big problem in all of this equation is Debbie Yow. She is close to retirement and regardless of whether she can conduct another coaching search. What coach would come to NCSU not knowing who the next AD will be?

    ADs come and go much quicker than they did when I was in school. Even if DY was in her 40s, there is no guarantee how long she would stay in Raleigh. So it might make a difference to some prospective coaches, but it really shouldn’t. Win are you’re golden, lose and you’re toast. The butt in the AD chair won’t change that math.

    No, but I definitely heard rumblings during the Sean courtship, that Sean said hell no in terms of working for DY.

    Does anyone know the amount of Gotts and Archies buyout? I know Dayton extended his contract last year to 2023. Hell it wouldn’t surprise me if Yow has given out another contract extension to Gott and the news release hasn’t come yet.

    Interesting that there seems to be such an opinion on the ad. If the basketball coach is good and he doesn’t get along with the ad, that’s the AD’s problem. Now, if they look at an AD like having a shack attracting vermin that will eventually head their way, that’s another and such an issue needs to be escalated to those in the leadership position above the ad.

    Unfortunately for Yow, none of her 2 most important hires have knocked it out of the park. The rest of the sports are like good sides and clean silverware at a restaurant…They matter not if the main course doesn’t impress you. And that’s her reality, hey, the salads are super and so are the sweet potato fries…But neither of the steaks I have had here are really good.

    Had the game on but didn’t pay attention other than to check the score occasionally. It went as expected.
    However, I didn’t hear which one of the opposing players had a career game today? I’m thinking of starting a pool to bet on that stat for each of the remaining games – that might generate some interest in the rest of the season, or at least to check the box scores.

    I was looking at the AD situation like a job I guess. Say if you’re interviewing for a “better” job but had a solid gig already. If I new going into the interview/offer that the boss I would be working for would change over the next year or two I might give some thought to risk vs reward. I’m not saying it should influence the decision totally but it has to cross your mind. Especially if you are a coach in demand. Maybe I’m looking at it the wrong way. I would have to wonder what if the next AD is a toolbag to work for. Doesn’t matter if I call the shots in reality, I would still like to have someone I respect working along my side with the same vision for success and how to obtain it.

    Either way we need to be putting some plans in place soon for a coaching change.

    Agreed 100%. We need to make it as attractive as possible for Arch, not explain away why a potential awkwardness or unknown quantity with his superiors (though the head hoops coach will and should have lots of leverage, fair point) shouldn’t be a big deal.

    I mean, supposedly Arch likes his boss and/or his power position where he is now. Saying “trust me, it will work out fine in a few years” doesn’t seem like proactive management to me. Yeah, if Arch really REALLY is dying to come, he might overlook it, but it’s in no way ideal. We aren’t maximizing our odds of closing the freaking deal.

    Yea cow. I am sorry – but I would think that most coaches aren’t too concerned about the ad if they are going to be successful. I mean, you do what Bennett has done at UVa and the ad is in hot water of Bennet doesn’t like him – not vice versa.

    It’s only less successful coaches who have to worry about buttering up an ad.

    That’s something different. CD was talking about not wanting to work for a short-timer, not DY specifically.

    What I consider a total collapse doesn’t matter, I am not the AD. That is her call, and so far she is on Gott’s side.

    I would expect her to be on his side through the season. If she can afford the buyout, then I also expect her to move after the season assuming that the current dumpster fire continues.

    When the employee makes 3-4 times the boss, and the boss is known to be on their way out, the employee doesn’t care so much about the boss. That is particularly true when the employee is going to get a package with a guaranteed severance.

    As for the game, is anyone really surprised? Winning against Duke without K while having close to season best games from three players was Fool’a Gold. Back to reality today for even the most optimistic. Of course it should have been obvious after UNC (if it wasn’t already after year 2 or 5).

    I would and will never pull against the Pack. I take solace that each passing loss gets us a game closer to HWSNBNv2 leaving us. I do wonder how many it will take to remove doubt from some…

    Someone asked about Gottfried buyout. His contract extends through the 2019/20 Season. Therefore AFTER this season (painfully so) is over, he has THREE more years. His Guaranteed BASE or Annual salary is $760K. That translates to $2,280K….or almost 2.3 Million. That is fact. It AIN’T gonna change unless Gottfried gets a few DWI’s or maybe goes political and supports some Trump policies….

    As to Archie Miller…..he is probably in the $1.2 – $1.4 Million range. Here was a SI sport (June 2016) that said he was well OVER $1 Million TWO YEARS AGO (2014). He got ANOTHER raise in March, 2016…..and his contract was extended to 2023. SO, do the math.

    Gottfried gets about 30% or his compensation in his BASE or Guaranteed. He has OTHER bonuse or incentives, but he will make $2,485 Million….just for showing up.

    SO, if Archie is making $1.3….then he would get, based on the 30% Guaranteed that Gottfried gets), around $400K. BUT, he has SIX more years on HIS contract. BINGO, you are at $2.4 MILLION. NOW, even if DY PAID THIS, Archie would still have to PONY UP the Federal and State Tax on it. You can NOT pay the institution. it MUST come from the Coach. DY gave Doeren the $$ to get out of his, but he had to pay TAX on it….it is INCOME. There are no fancy Tax Evasion strategies….it is INCOME. THAT has been tested in many courts.

    SO, Archie would probably owe around ONE MILLION. HE would need a SUBSTANTIAL increase….and NCSU would be out almost $5 MILLION.

    It AIN’T GONNA HAPPEN….unless we win a Powerball Lottery….

    The Lady Pack lost today….UNC handed them their sports bras in a neat package…..

    NOT a good day for DY’s choices of BB coaches….

    Yow has done a great job of holding coaches accountable for winning. In women’s basketball she let go a decent coach with a lot of potential and not a lot of time under her belt at NCSU. She let go a popular wrestling coach. She let go O’Brien who consistently got us to bowl games, but had an obvious ceiling. Now she needs to do the same thing with the man she made a big gamble on. Gott can recruit, but his players leave at an alarming rate, and he does not consistently win games that his talent should be able to win. It is also obvious that he is more interested in blaming them than coaching them. None of that will get us where we want to be. All we need is Yow to be consistent with how she has handled all other sports programs. The bubble of NCAA tourney at NC State is not success. It is failure. That bar is too low.

    Yow needs to treat the most important sport at NC State like she has the others.

    Time for something to be excited about again. Personally, I’d love to see Hodge on the staff with Miller.

    Adventuroo, thanks for the financial summary and also bringing a severe level of this situation really SUCKS to this Monday morning. Good gosh are we in an awful place for managing a contract change. Obviously Gott has the perfect setup from his standpoint.

    Maybe we could let Gott go and bring back Lutz as an interim coach. Lick our wounds for a little while from such a major financial debacle and be in position to make a better offer to Archie or whomever. I’m really afraid of the reality that we are simply not in a financial situation to let Gott go. This is sad on so many levels…..We simply suck. It’s hard to sit back and not be angry but what choice do I have. How many double digit years have we been dealing with mediocrity at best now? Exactly…..

    If we truly cannot fire him because of his contract then Yow should be shown the door. There was no other school coming after him so there was no reason to keep extending his contract. Only an idiot would have given him such a coach friendly contract, it is just shy of the Paul Hewitt contract.

    At least the debate on whether Gott is a good coach is done. Now the question is how long we hold onto him. After this year, his recruiting magic is going to dry up. When recruits see what he has done with this talent none will come to here. There is only one recruit next year, no transfers and there will be another mass exodus. What a mess.

    And they pressed us. Unbelievable that we could apply zero pressure when they have their top 2 guards out of the game. No name big men. How many “first rounders” are on their team.

    I like the idea above. If we can’t afford to get rid of Gott, fire Yow’s dumb arse and bring back Lutz on an interim basis next year. Let Whitt be assistant. Could they do worse?

    These are epic losses. Sick of it. Sick of the entire basketball community being astounded at our defense.

    We have not had good luck with NC State alum, becoming coaches. Don’t think it is worth the risk. But I guess there are always exceptions.
