You can’t trust someone who will blow smoke up your ass no matter the weather. We tell you the truth here, to the best of our ability.
Has always been my viewpoint, as well.
(But just in case, stop being negative BJD….sorry, just hedging my bets)02/10/2017 at 7:02 PM #117041BJD95KeymasterHee hee!!
02/10/2017 at 8:07 PM #117045GreywolfParticipantAlso, I get that NC State football is a challenging project.
But he’s got to have a very good season on the field and on the recruiting trail to make up for the backsliding, and convince me he’s really turned the corner and is capable of more than just minor bowl appearances.
I think that’s completely fair.
That is completely fair. No question about it.
I for sure hope he/the team learned something from that trip to Greenville. I wish we played ECU early every year so that we could learn to play teams that point to our game and get fired up to play us. “This is their Super Bowl” is the worst excuse for a loss I know.
We got out coached and out played when BC came to town. That’s going to happen sometimes. I do think it’s foolish for the team or the fans to assume any game is a sure win.
BC has a very good defense and when you have good defense, anything can happen.I’m okay with salvaging a season in the last game or 2. Those last games count as much as the early games. We learned one thing about our team — they don’t roll over and play dead.
IMNSHO When it all settles down, Doeren is going to win and be here for a long time. I wish I could say the same thing about Gottfried. Doeren is working to establish a winner where there is no real winning tradition to support the effort. Even Dick Sheridan never won a conference championship back when the ACC wasn’t the football power conference it seems to be now.
Can’t say that about Gott. He’s got it all going for him — the PNC, practice facilities, tradition, and now special housing accommodations for the players — the whole enchilada. He’s about out of excuses.
We rolled the dice with Case, Edwards, Holtz and Valvano and won. We rolled ’em with Kiffen, Reed, Herb, and Lowe and lost. Amato, O’Cain, TOB and while they were okay, they still couldn’t get us over the hump. Apparently we lost with Gottfried but we should have known based on his Alabama stint.
Now we’ve rolled them again with Doeren and it appears to many that we’ve lost again although there are some who are willing to give him the full 5 years. Personally, I believe that Doeren knows what he doing as far as building a football program is concerned. He doesn’t appear to recruit particularly well yet both lines are deep and stout while the rest of the team is adequate or better with one exception.
If we oust him now, somebody else is going to get the benefit of his 5 years as HC of a P-5 team in a very strong football conference. Gott is different in that he has been around plenty long to have learned. Had Gott used some of his money to hire some sharp young coaches and let them coach, he could have retired here with everybody talking about what a great coach he was. Alas, t’was not to be.

about the football team02/10/2017 at 9:47 PM #117053mhcstatefanParticipantI am in the middle of nowhere AL for work and just watched Archie and the 19-5 Dayton Flyers win a close one on ESPN 2. #BringArchieHome #GottGone

about the football teamYeah, everybody who defended MOC/Amato/TOB/HWSNBN/Sid/now MG to the death sure showed us negative nillies a thing or two. Just look at what great heights to which they have climbed in the college footy/basketball world since leaving the big meanies of ungrateful NC State!!
Go ahead, you can list them. I won’t mind that you’re rubbing it in.
02/10/2017 at 10:31 PM #117056BJD95KeymasterFor the record, I am QUITE supportive when it is merited, and I don’t think I am in any way unfair about how I judge coaching performance.
And I most certainly hope Dave Doeren posts a winning record in the league, and lands a Top 30-40 (minimum) recruiting class next year. Do I think it’s likely? Given the evidence to date, no. But not out of the realm of possibility (unlike MG turning things around).
I will give him a fair shot, and hope he learned some lessons from last season’s f-ckups. Learning from such experiences will be the differences between having a real shot to getting over the hump, vs. another log for the failure pile.
MG sure never learned. And we are all paying the price for it now.

Just be sure I understand you: are you saying that you are QUITE supportive when a coach wins 5 or more of his conference games but not supportive when he wins less than that? (I picked 5 conference games because that seems to be the demand.)

Anyone that gives a red cent to that bunch in Raleigh is a sucker.
