I could care less about the helmets. They could all have uniforms dressed like the Legion of Doom, it’s still not going to change the fact we suck.

05/23/2014 at 12:28 AM #52316Royal WulffParticipantI went to the coaches caravan in CLT this week. There was a lot of talk about the new alt helmet. Doeren said that helmet was the tipping point in the decision of a significant recruit who committed on Tuesday. He said that he couldn’t mention names, but that “StateFans.com could probably figure out who it was pretty quick”. DY acknowledged the fact that we’re 0-forever in black. She said we will only wear that “Pack in Black” helmet in a sure-win situation. You listening, Presbyterian College?

Here’s my comment from the thread about State possibly making a bowl game this year and nothing has happened in the few weeks since that has changed my mind.
I personally will not drink the (Back-up/Transfer) Brissett Kool-Aid after tasting the (WR-turned-QB) Mitchell Kool-Aid last year. This team just may be better than last year but this schedule doesn’t hold many test to prove it. So please forgive me if I don’t jump on the bandwagon pulled by flying unicorns farting rainbows as to the summer outlook for the upcoming season and achieving the magical 6 win total to travel to the Beef O’Brady Bowl. It frankly doesn’t take much more than Tee-ball level talent to reach 5 wins this season, i.e. having one key player better than everyone else on the field.
So no I haven’t conceded the season already but I sure as heck ain’t expecting the same crappy team from last year to magically improve, no matter how much better Brissett is compared to Mitchell/Thomas. As for Doeren, he didn’t have the unrealistic high first season to get me giddy with anticipation (i.e. put on my rose colored glasses) and thus he has to earn my praise by producing a quality product on the field. I’ll give praise to players and coaches alike when they go out there and show me they deserve it; just for the record getting to 6 wins with this year’s schedule will not equal a quality product. Until then I will continue to base my assumptions of this year’s team solely off of last year’s product.
05/23/2014 at 3:16 PM #52322BJD95KeymasterThe soonest anyone can reasonably expect not to suck (or at least be in the neighborhood of suck) is 2015-16. That’s just cold hard reality of the talent situation TOB left us with.
05/23/2014 at 6:41 PM #52324StateRed44ParticipantUnderstand 1.21. I also think things can snowball. I have to admit I didn’t watch much football last year. I’m hopeful even if it’s a poor to mediocre team we can get a little traction with DD. I don’t blame him for trying the helmets or whatever. Quite honestly we should probably be pushing the envelope a little more with respect to what tactics our peers employ. But that’s just me. Everyone knows we are fighting guns with knives.
05/23/2014 at 6:44 PM #52325StateRed44ParticipantNeed more sign out sheets, tudors (sic), license plates, and freak ‘um dresses. We need to create a “buzz” about the program. This day in age it seems there is no bad publicity. The world has passed us fogies by. People wanting us to be vanilla like Bama or Penn state have no clue IMO. Will. Not. Happen.
05/23/2014 at 8:36 PM #52327WulfpackParticipantEveryone knows we are fighting guns with knives.
I am not sure I understand this line of thinking. If you want to compare us to the SEC behemoths, I agree absolutely. A different ballgame altogether.
But we live and play in the ACC. And last season, we couldn’t beat anybody. Not Duke. Not Wake. Not BC. Not Cuse. Not Maryland. Not the cheaters to the west. Not anybody. Not even ECU. We sucked. That’s on us.
The ACC programs not named FSU and Clemson aren’t loaded with “guns”. It is a knife battle. And they are all dull. A little sharpening and we are easily middle of the pack.
Bottom line is we should most certainly be able to win a game or two in this crappy league. Maybe even three or four. That’s what our history has shown. I never expect more than that. That’s what our history has shown. History matters.
And none of this is on DD. Not yet anyways. He certainly has his work cut out for him.

05/24/2014 at 9:11 AM #52335BJD95KeymasterI look forward to the day when we get our knives. It was sporks last year, and likely more of the same this year (except with at least an average QB).
I would be surprised if we didn’t win at least one ACC game this year, though. The ACC is pretty shitty. But yeah, our talent situation is dire even by ACC standards. Not pleasant, but reality. Thanks, TOB.

The only bitterness I have is being a paying customer (LTR/Season ticket holder) and getting shat on by the very people who’s product I pay to watch. As for the rest, well that’s just being realistic after 21 years of being a State fan, following since Robinson, O’Cain, Sendek, Amato, Lowe, and TOB. Plus if anyone can’t see the piss poor talent level on the team left by TOB and is sitting there with delusions of grandeur that State will be anything but a bottom feeder for at least 3 seasons then they are not living in reality and I’ve got some beach front property in Kansas to sell them.
05/25/2014 at 9:23 AM #52350ancsu87ParticipantWho is and how are you being shat upon? It is your choice to be a paying customer. If you don’t like the product then don’t buy it. I get it…you think the program sucks. I think we are not good but will get better.
As an alum I prefer to support the program and try to make changes through constructive suggestions to the program and university’s administration rather than continue to publicly berate the coaches and players we comments such as “we suck”.
I suffered through three straight 3-8 Tom Reed years with little talent yet the next year a little known but experienced successful coach came in and won 9 games with the same talent different schemes. It ain’t all about the talent. I think things went south for us after Clemson cause they never got over that game and that is cause DD is still a young inexperienced coach. I think he learned a lot last year. I expect to see a big improvement in his coaching much like you see in player from their freshman to sophomore year. We still need better talent but can see us being middle of the pack in the ACC. Is it worth being LTR/Season ticket holder? You have to answer that but if you do try to support the program you pay for in a constructive manner.
