The dance card actually has us “in” if you look at where life e has ended last 2 years (#51)…the problem is that we have to beat a great duke team that we just don’t match up well with. If we lose to duke our RPI will drop enough to keep us out of the tourney
03/15/2014 at 12:29 PM #46482StateFansKeymasterThanks for posting that picture, Rick. That is what ESPN calls ‘obviously no contact’
03/15/2014 at 12:47 PM #46484compsciwolfParticipantWhile I wasn’t watching the ESPN feed of the Duke/Clemson game, in the highlights on the front page of espn.com today the sports center anchors do openly question the calls, asking how that was a foul on Hood and not a foul on call. So ESPN certainly isn’t speaking with one voice today.
In my opinion, it was a foul on Hood, a clear body check on the reply shown on the ACC Network feed (don’t know why ESPN didn’t show it). I think a foul should have been called against Duke on Hall, however, watching the play live my first reaction was that he tripped over his feet. I’ve even watched the highlights on ESPN and live it still looks like that to me, although the still photos make it clear there was a foul. Even so, I’d just expect a foul to be called when a play goes flying like that. It was certainly interesting the whistle was swallowed there.
03/15/2014 at 12:57 PM #46486BJD95KeymasterYou can’t give Duke a whistle in last 5 seconds then swallow it on the other end. That video IS conclusive to me.
Of course, it’s Clemson. They would have missed the first and got a lane violation on the second.

You are welcome. I know I am s little crazy about refs sometimes but when I see this obvious bias it drives me absolutely insane
03/15/2014 at 1:33 PM #46495packalum44ParticipantLogic dictates that losing by a point and winning by a point are roughly equivalent. At least the BCS formula includes score. RPI is inferior to BCS.
Our chances went from zero to a positive number regardless of the Duke game.
03/15/2014 at 2:26 PM #465041.21 JigawattsKeymasterOne team that’s in on the Dance Card that just defies logic but apparently not the math is Southern Miss. You put their numbers up against NCSU in a blind test and you take NCSU every time from what the NCAA has said about who you have played and beaten.
Unfortunately that’s the only team ahead of the Pack I can say we’d deserve it over in a head to head comparison, with our current record. Too many blown games this year that it comes down to beating Duke to get at least an at-large bid or hello NIT.
I think someone already pointed out that we need Providence to lose tonight so they don’t take a spot they can only get with an automatic bid. Go Creighton!!! Of course we’ll already know our result long before then and we’d leap frog enough others, most other bubble teams are done, that a Providence automatic wouldn’t effect State. Another team that could steal a spot from a bubble team is St. Bonnie, would be nice if they lost today to make sure they don’t. I’d include UGA in this group as well.
03/15/2014 at 2:47 PM #46512wufpup76KeymasterRe: SportsCenter –
I have to give their late night / morning crew some credit – watching the game last night I thought the Hall play appeared to be a good no call.
During the SportsCenter highlights, Max Bretos asked ‘Where was the foul??’ on the Hood play and called Hood a ‘Top. Gun. Actor.’ (Team America reference). They didn’t really say much about the Hall play, but it was the elephant in the room.
If the roles were reversed, the whistles would’ve blown – that’s the real shame.
03/15/2014 at 8:48 PM #46801WulfpackParticipantLunardi just put us in as a 12 seed!
03/15/2014 at 8:53 PM #46803SaccoVParticipantHere is the link to Lunardi’s bracket, even though we’re still listed as a Next 4 Out on the right panel.
03/15/2014 at 8:54 PM #46804WulfpackParticipantYea they haven’t updated that part yet but we are in.
03/15/2014 at 9:01 PM #468051.21 JigawattsKeymasterAnother State site pointed out that it was a typo, the in team should be ND State, not NC Stste, because NDSU got an automatic bid and wasn’t listed but NCSU was listed twice.
03/15/2014 at 9:06 PM #46806WulfpackParticipantCoach K with some kind words about us:
“They got it going,” Krzyzewski said. “They’re a tough out, man. They’re a tough out. They’d be a tough out. I wouldn’t want to play them.”
He told Gott he hopes we get in, and he’s been lobbying for us, FSU and Clemson.

03/15/2014 at 9:12 PM #46807SaccoVParticipantJigs, I think you’re right. Even after some refreshes, ND State isn’t showing up even though they won their tournament.
03/15/2014 at 9:12 PM #46808WulfpackParticipantSo strange Jigawatts. NDSU finished up on Tuesday and won the Summit. So why would they be listed as a new team in? But, they aren’t listed elsewhere in the field, so that worries me. Another site has us in according to Decock’s article. We are so close.
03/15/2014 at 9:15 PM #46809WulfpackParticipantBut it also worries me that we aren’t listed as being in the play in round. I would think that’s where we would be as the last team or two in. Right now that is Nebraska, Providence, BYU and Dayton. Surely we didn’t jump all those guys by losing today.
03/15/2014 at 9:16 PM #46810WulfpackParticipantAND, they just changed it. Someone at espn screwed up. Back to NDSU. Sorry guys.
03/15/2014 at 9:21 PM #46811SaccoVParticipantStill a fighting chance. Lunardi has Providence in as a lock regardless of their game with Creighton.
03/15/2014 at 9:33 PM #46812WTNYParticipantYou guys are just torturing yourselves. We are headed to the Not Invited Tournament.
03/15/2014 at 9:42 PM #46813SaccoVParticipantThere’s some reason for hope, WTNY. Dance card has two teams (SMU and Providence) over (technically BELOW) the ‘Bubble Bursts Here’ line that Lunardi has as locks in the tournament. Also, two teams (SoMiss and Cal) ABOVE the line on the Dance card who are NOT in Lunardi’s bracket. If Providence loses, then hope yet remains. If Providence wins, we’re for sure NIT-ing!
03/15/2014 at 9:50 PM #468141.21 JigawattsKeymasterStill a fighting chance. Lunardi has Providence in as a lock regardless of their game with Creighton.
Lunardi is full of crap with his “locks” that constantly change. Plus if they are a lock then so is the Pack. We REALLY need Providence to lose and Crieghton is doing nothing to help us out.
My opinion is the Pack is just like the other small handful of teams vying for the final few spots but history shows the math just isn’t enough. Is there a chance? Maybe but it’s REALLY small, like Doug Flutie Hail Mary small, and Providence can’t get an automatic bid.
Just go into tomorrow night not expecting a bid and your psyche will thank you for it.
03/15/2014 at 10:08 PM #46817WulfpackParticipantTime to channel your inner McDermotts. Friars up 9 with ten to play.
03/15/2014 at 10:09 PM #46818SaccoVParticipantI’ve lived a life of expecting the negative, Jigs! I’m a State grad after all.
03/15/2014 at 10:40 PM #46821WulfpackParticipantProvidence punches their ticket. Gutty effort. Obviously, hurts our chances.
03/15/2014 at 10:41 PM #46822SaccoVParticipantCreighton screws the pooch. Providence takes the one slot we
most likely wouldcould have had. -
