Yes, I know it’s a hard morning, no one likes to lose an OT thriller to their rival, particularly on a last second shot…but it is what it is, so, today, to put a positive spin on things, I’m going to list all the reasons why we should still be happy to be NC State Fans (in no particular order)
- despite the loss, we are 7-8 in conference, we knew it was a going to be a down year, and it has been, no shock there. We still have a reasonable chance at at 0.500 conference record
- barring a complete melt down, we won’t be playing during the Wednesday Les Robinson Inivitational Series
- we’ve had the privilege of watching TJ Warren this year
- The defense, while still not great, is better than any other time during the GOTT or Lowe ERA
- We’ve got a great recruiting class, plus Trevor Lacey coming in next year
- Our students actually go to class
- We will be eligible for the NIT (unlike GT, BC, VT)
- We have no looming “investigations”
- Anya, Washington, Freeman, the big guys are still inconsistent, but stepping up more and more
- We have the makings of a a great backcourt with both Lewis and Barbar almost certain to return
- We really do bleed red
- When we have success, we truly appreciate it, unlike the spoiled blue fans
- We know that every time we win, John Swofford dies a little inside
I could go on, but I was to conclude how proud I am of our teams in all sports and conclude with:
Go Pack!

Let’s add this….
What we are seeing this season, in terms of how to build a team, and thereby build a program that is truly successful over the long term, is ALL GOOD.

02/27/2014 at 2:26 PM #43086FergusWolfParticipantAlso want to point out that we have 4 games that the final score at the end of regulation was either 0 or 1 point that we lost
That would be:
NCCU lost in OT
Wake lost by 1
Syracuse lost by 1
UNC lost by 1 in OT.So, you could say…if we had score 6 (count them 6) more points in regulation time, we could be 21-7 and 10-5 in conference, with two wins over top 25 RPI teams, and 2 fewer bad losses.
Skipping all the complaints about calls (which I think we have at least in the 3 ACC games), it shows just how close we are to being a good team.
02/27/2014 at 2:32 PM #43089Whiteshoes67Participant^Nice to look for the silver lining, but let’s not polish a turd. THe ACC ain’t what it once was. 7-8, when you’re not playing everybody twice, can be good or bad, depending on your schedule. In our case, it’s bad. I also don’t believe the defensive improvement is anywhere evident. The Kenpom stats that are standardized for every 100 possessions certainly don’t support that conclusion. Other than that, I agree with all of the above.
02/27/2014 at 2:34 PM #43090wufpup76Keymaster^^I need one of those silver lining blankets for every game.
Or, I could just go for Jennifer Lawrence’s silver linings playbook (cheap and cheesy, I know):
Hot girls always make the day better.
02/27/2014 at 2:39 PM #43094FergusWolfParticipantOk, you win on the defense front, this is actually the worst defense we’ve had in years.
02/27/2014 at 2:43 PM #43096Whiteshoes67Participant^So very appropriate, wufpup, since somebody cajoled me into reading the Hunger Games. I usually don’t stoop to such levels. But it helped ease the pain of last night’s loss.

^Well, just leave that to me hahaha
“thanks!”
^I’m here to serve 🙂
02/27/2014 at 3:38 PM #43126tjfoose1ParticipantSilver? You sure that ain’t mercury?
02/27/2014 at 3:46 PM #43129tjfoose1ParticipantWe know that every time we win, John Swofford dies a little inside
I disagree. I think he likes it. It’s the wins that keep us invested, causing the afflictions after games such as last night. If we lost more often, we could all divest. But no, ah no, they can’t just let us be.
03/02/2014 at 11:59 AM #43779StateFansKeymasterI so want to subscribe to this kind of thinking. But, until I see more consistent defensive effort and better fundamentals in our program I will remain ‘hopeful’ but not ‘convinced’.
