I’ve got some questions for you about NC State football and the game against Clemson. Come on in and give me your opinion on this week’s game.

10/03/2014 at 11:38 AM #57815primacyoneParticipantWill NC State be emotionally ready after a hard-fought FSU game? Yes. Not much heartache from last week. I think they are proud of the effort last week and ready to eliminate the mistakes.
How will the young NC State team handle a hostile Death Valley? Tough call. If they have a strong start I think it will be fine. I even see this team thriving in that type of environment.
Will the offensive line be able to hold of Clemson’s experienced front 7? Based on last week, I say yes. But it will be a battle. We were tired and weak at the end of the game last week.
Is Deshaun Watson that good or was UNC’s defense that bad? UNC’s D is just that bad. However, we don’t have the best D in the country etiher.
Can NC State’s defense make enough plays to keep the pressure off of the offense? No. But hopefully they can get closer to holding serve.
Will NC State be able to score 40+pts for the 5th game in a row? Yes. If the Cheats can put 35 on the board we can put 40. We could have put 56 on the board against FSU.
45-42 Pack. Going to be a heck of a game!
10/03/2014 at 11:38 AM #57816PapaJohnParticipantIf I set aside my passion for State and look at last week as a bias free observer, we won the first quarter handily and then they adapted and beat us 49-17 the rest of the way. So we need a fast start with better defense, or a more sustained, four quarter, effort. I think the first is more likely than the second – but both are a stretch for this young team. Clemson is really good and I thought they out played FSU.
I would be happy with 45-35. (or at least as happy as I was last Saturday)
10/03/2014 at 11:46 AM #57817Pack85EEParticipantI believe we have a chance but the first two questions will make a difference between a hard fought battle to the end or an arse whupping.
And I think if we are ready to play we will be good consistently the rest of the season.
so
1. On my knees praying so
2. Ditto, goes with 1.
3. Yes, for the most part. This is the best Oline we have had in a long time. And staying healthy.
4. Good but UNC made him look great. Hope we make him look like a freshman
5. If we are good on 1 & 2, the improving defense should be able to keep them in the range that
6. If so we should win, see 5.Yea I’m starting to be too confident and considering it’s at DV, if we do well, we probably just make a game of it and loose a close one. But if we get hit in the mouth and don’t fight angry, it’s ugly.
10/03/2014 at 11:58 AM #57818GreywolfParticipantGood answers, primacyone.
I was concerned about the noise until I thought about it some. We’ve been practicing with loud music, etc., all week. Has Clemson’s defense been practicing with crowd noise? With our shifting and motion will Clemson hear its own defensive signals and calls? Let the crowd noise work against them more so than us.
“We were tired and weak at the end of the game last week.” True. Our guys played without substitutions, 91 plays I think it was. It was the best call we could make last week. Thuney will be out again this week so unless the coaches have figured out a way to rotate at least one lineman in to give them some break, we will have to do it again.
I have a question of my own. When is the last time NC State’s OL an asset instead of a detriment?
10/03/2014 at 12:00 PM #57819ryebreadParticipantI expect us to come out flat this week on offense. It will be the first game played in a hostile crowd and we rely on motion, shifts, etc. which I think is a bit tougher when you can’t hear. I also suspect the offense feels pretty good about itself after the showing against Clemson and may not be quite so sharp.
I think Clemson wins by about 7-14 pts (say 49-38). If NC State is to have any shot, the defense will need to hold up early until the offense kicks in gear.
10/03/2014 at 12:08 PM #57820mak4dpakParticipantMaybe it doesn’t matter, but Clemson played an FSU team with a backup quarterback, we took on the starting quarterback, and nearly pulled off the upset, minus the last gimme touchdown. If the defense continues to improve, as I expect, and the offense keeps up their pace, we might just pull it off. Nothing would be better than to see 80,000 plus fans, quiet. Can we? Sure! Will we? Wish I knew. Go Pack!
10/03/2014 at 12:11 PM #57821mak4dpakParticipantRyebread- Did you mean the showing against FSU?
10/03/2014 at 12:51 PM #57826Pack85EEParticipantMore thoughts on our D in regards to the QB. Jameis threaded two perfect passes just past Tocho for two TDs. I don’t expect a very good freshmen to be quite as accurate.
Things have to go our way and we have to bring it on both sides of the ball but I am thinking Watson will not shread us. And if he doesn’t we do have a good chance.10/03/2014 at 12:54 PM #57827WufpackerParticipantThey’ll think they are.
Just fine, but the crowd ain’t playing.
For a little while.
Yes he is, yes they are, so is ours.
No.
No.I hope I’m wrong, but I think realism comes home to roost tomorrow. Fortunately, our two toughest games will be in the rearview after it’s over.
10/03/2014 at 1:51 PM #57835mak4dpakParticipantJust remember we were not given the slightest chance at winning last week, and danged near pulled it off. So here is to optimism. I think the best game we played all year was our only road game, and South Florida gave Wisconsin all it could handle on the Badgers own field. So hopefully we can continue that trend.
10/03/2014 at 3:46 PM #57848tjfoose1ParticipantWith the caveat that my responses are expectations (not guarantees) based on what we’ve seen thus far, and that most of the questions are subjective, with a baseline expectation. I’ve found my expectations and definition of ‘reasonable’ can sometimes vary widely from those of some posters:
Will NC State be emotionally ready after a hard-fought FSU game?
Yes. Team appears to be ticked off and eager, not despondent. I attribute this to the coaches and the coach/player relationships, the team culture being cultivated, and the player leadership provided by Brissett and others. How will the young NC State team handle a hostile Death Valley? May effect them early, as they adjust to the noise and ‘atmosphere’. If so, I don’t expect it long lasting.
Will the offensive line be able to hold of Clemson’s experienced front 7? Will Clemson fake injuries? I expect the OL will hold their own. Neither side will dominate overall, both will dominate in stretches.
Is Deshaun Watson that good or was UNC’s defense that bad? He’s good, potentially great. But not THAT good. u*nc’s defense (and intra-squad division) played a big roll in that gaudy performance.
Can NC State’s defense make enough plays to keep the pressure off of the offense? Define ‘pressure’? The offense is expecting to have to shoulder a large part of the burden, going in. I expect something similar to last week’s game from the defense, but with the performance factor shifted higher. I’m expecting/hoping our D coaches can throw in a few things to exploit the inexperience of true freshman QB. Watson ain’t Winston. The defense will make their plays, but so will Clemson. I’ll put the over/under of Clemson points at 34.5. Pace of game, number of plays is a factor.
My biggest conern is Watson running the ball. Both from designed plays and scrambling. This has very very bad potential for the Wolfpack. Flashed of Woody Dantzler in CF bad.
Will NC State be able to score 40+pts for the 5th game in a row? Yes, assuming NC State is permitted to dictate the flow w/o excessive injuries. Basing this not just on the quality of offense, but on the expected number of plays from the offense.
10/03/2014 at 3:47 PM #57849MISTA WOLFParticipantWill NC State be emotionally ready after a hard-fought FSU game?
I hope so. We showed great effort last week and I believe the staff will have them ready. All is not lost and I hope the guys know that. I think the fans at Carter gave them something to believe in with the ovation that got after the FSU game. How will the young NC State team handle a hostile Death Valley?
They have to play Clemson not the fans like what was stated by Wufpacker. Play the team on the field, remember the concepts while on field and do your best to get them to sit on their a$$es and shut up. One of my favorite things is to see Coach Venables have a brain aneurysm on the sideline. Cheers to seeing his jugular explode. Will the offensive line be able to hold of Clemson’s experienced front 7?
Jacoby is going to have to make plays with his legs like last week. Beasley will be beaming down on him from the strong side all game long. Since Beasley is a bull rusher, I’m hoping we throw some short screens to the TE or HB’s right behind like we did last week. With his push and ability to get in the backfield, there will be green grass on his backside. Feel the void.
Is Deshaun Watson that good or was UNC’s defense that bad?
Woody Dantzler 2.0 will be hated by us for the next 4 years. Carolina sucks. End of story.
Can NC State’s defense make enough plays to keep the pressure off of the offense?
For us to win their going to have to. Need some TO action and no stupid penalties on 2nd and 28 or 3rd and long. COUGH COUGH!
Will NC State be able to score 40+ pts for the 5th game in a row?
No, not in that environment. Hopefully they prove me wrong but this is our first true away game of the season. USF can’t be counted since there was 127 N.C. State fans in attendance and only 62 USF fans.
Taters win 45 -24. We will be disappointed. Hopefully I’m wrong again, but being a State fan since I popped out of moms catcher mitt has shaped my way of thinking with an Eeyore state of mind. GO F’N PACK!!
10/04/2014 at 12:32 AM #57857blpackParticipantNot many teams go into Death Valley and win. It is a tall order, though it can be done. I think we wear down again in the second half. Nothing to be ashamed of. Still must improve each week.
10/04/2014 at 5:16 AM #57858PackerInRussiaParticipantYes.
Yes.
Yes.
Both.
No.
Maybe.I reserve the right to change any answers before, during, or after the game.
10/04/2014 at 6:37 AM #57859mak4dpakParticipantHeading to the Valley today, hope it is worth the trip. Go Pack!
10/04/2014 at 7:57 AM #57860BJD95KeymasterWill BJD95 wake up at 5:30 for no good reason, and spend most of the morning hours with Ken Burns’ “The Roosevelts” documentary?
Yes.
Is it amazing to see how stunningly hot the womenfolk of Mississippi are before they gain 150 pounds in their mid-to-late 20s?
YES.
If one indeed wears “bowties and boat shoes” to a football game, should one kill oneself?
A MILLION F-ING TIMES YES.
10/04/2014 at 7:59 AM #57861PackofMacParticipantGO PACK!!! Last weeks game was absolutely not a let down!!! We get it, hope the kids on the field do. Death Valley is a “tall order” but one that is on the menu. It’d be great to go down there and beat Dabbo’s a**. Save travels to those going! Be loud and proud
10/04/2014 at 8:19 AM #57863WufpackerParticipantWill BJD95 wake up at 5:30 for no good reason, and spend most of the morning hours with Ken Burns’ “The Roosevelts” documentary?
No doubt caused by subconscious remorse for giving up on your redbirds last night. You disgust me.
10/04/2014 at 8:37 AM #57864BJD95KeymasterLMAO, guilty as charged.
10/04/2014 at 9:19 AM #57867YogiNCParticipantHey beege, that series was awesome. I’m named after TR (real given name is Teddy) and I enjoyed the series. What i want more though is to enjoy every series in today’s game. GO PACK!
Smarter than the average bear
10/04/2014 at 12:14 PM #57876TheAliasTrollParticipantIndeed what a comeback by the Cardinals last night! MLB playoffs have been phenomenal thus far.
Re: our game: I fully expect us to get blasted today. Just a ridiculous blasting.
10/04/2014 at 4:44 PM #57998wolfpup44ParticipantWell, wrong on all counts. This team, and specifically the defense, are showing us a few things. Anyone can score against us, our corners are so weak it stings, we cannot tackle, our DBs our slooooooowwwwwwww. Any good team, as FSU will expose this and we will pay as we are with CU. Regarding the offense being ready…..I never thought Doerner would have them ready for Death Valley. Check your history. Our best teams have not been ready for that environment and now a 4th year coach with this weak young team is going to break the mold. Ugh!
10/04/2014 at 5:09 PM #58036wolfpup44ParticipantDoeren really mismanaged the last 8 seconds of the first half. Doeren does not deserve to be in the ACC. And as I have said all along……Yow needs to go!

All together now sing, “I don’t like anybody very much.”
