The “these kids had nothing to do with it” defense carries no weight.
Absolutely none. It’s called institutional control for a reason. If a school is penalized and current players are deemed “innocent”, I think said players should be able to transfer without sitting out a year. They’d be able to play and the program would be further hamstrung. All the more reason to play by the rules.
04/07/2016 at 10:28 AM #10239844rulesParticipantThat said, castration seems reasonable to me; hanging does not. Besides, based on public enrollment statistics, the former Flagship is nothing but a women’s college in disguise.
Hanging, drawing and quartering seems appropriate to me. Not that I’m bitter or anything … 🙂

04/07/2016 at 12:28 PM #102402AdventurooParticipantPack78,
THAT was classic….what a FIND.
I can’t top that….but I will offer the following. It is a really in your face and satirical comment on the Zebra Situation.
Enjoy….
04/07/2016 at 12:51 PM #102403MrPlywoodParticipant“Tyler Hansbrough’s” comment is priceless:
“The refs were very bias. Many times they let Villinova get away with alot of walks. As a basketball player I can tell you that letting a guy travel like that makes him hard to defend. Are guys work very hard on the court and in the classroom. Its not write for them to loose the game because of the refs. This was there championship that the refs stole.”
04/08/2016 at 9:45 AM #102419AdventurooParticipantOne does have to wonder about the intelligence of some folks. Now remember that Tyler took an AFAM class in Swahili….so that might have influenced his grammar….other than being raised in Arkansas.
I am NOW suspect that perhaps his mom was in on the plot. Perhaps some well meaning UNC Coach, obviously without ORW’s knowledge, made arrangements so that Tyler got “extra” fouls and there were liaisons, ala Louisville, at the end of the season with Mrs. H where the refs with the most tweets got a special thank you(s).
UNC is the master at dealing in bling, parking tickets, term papers and such so that cash transactions were not traceable….
In the 80’s, the BB team managers were part of the “Sweet Caroline” operation and would make sure that the CoEd assigned to a player was providing outstanding service and there were no issues. Direct quote from a UNC BB Team Manager of that period. They were the “feedback” to the underground operation that did the “match up’s”….really well organized….today, there would be an online survey that would pop up.
Probably did not happen as Mrs. H is a fine upstanding example of Sports Mom Dedication and would never allow her voluptuous looks to be used for her or her son’s personal gain…..but Mrs. Kupec and her daughters would NOT be the ones that I would want to substantiate that under oath….
04/08/2016 at 9:55 AM #102420tractor57ParticipantNot sure that was the “real” Tyler but the grammar and spelling would indicate an uneducated fool – so maybe it was Tyler 🙂
04/08/2016 at 10:01 AM #102421AdventurooParticipantFU to Yogi’s find of the Change.Org petition….
PRICELESS. I thought that Duke had the lock of the Nut Job Snowflakes (current staging a 60’s style Sit IN…probably without all the herbs and smoke and sex that made them so enjoyable…..who would want to cozy up to THOSE folks.
However, it appears that the spores from that colony have escaped….and headed toward the coast. The BBQ aroma and fumes from Goldsboro and Kinston may have mutated the strain….and turned it light blue.
Enjoy…..

04/08/2016 at 11:30 AM #102423Wolfpackjack76ParticipantAny particular reason my comment wasn’t posted? Just wondering.
04/08/2016 at 12:18 PM #102413Wolfpackjack76ParticipantHere’s a good one for you…
Of course we remember the ’83 Dereck to Lo “pass”. Now think of how many times we’ve seen that replayed in the last 33 years and the warm and happy feelings it stirs in the heart each and every time we see it!
Now think of how many times Kris Jenkins’ buzzer beater will be replayed over the next umpteen years and think of those cold and icy dagger to the heart feelings the tar holes will experience each and every time they see it!
PS. FWIW: I gotta have faith in the “Dog” He has me confident that Thor WILL be coming to town (chapel hell)
04/08/2016 at 12:20 PM #102424RickKeymasterI went and checked and there are a fairly large number of posts in the “pending” area. I am going to try to add the ones that are recent back in.
04/12/2016 at 11:24 AM #102506packof81ParticipantOff topic but CBS Sports is reporting that FGCU head coach Joe Dooley may resign his position to become an assistant at NC State.
04/12/2016 at 12:00 PM #102507AdventurooParticipantPackof81,
NOT REALLY OFF TOPIC…Thanks for the heads up.
WONDER (no inside info…) if we will have THREE Assistants on the bench and ONE Associate or if there are some winds of change a blowin’?
Maybe HE can provide some “academic assistance” also as the AFAM Snake Oil show was originally conceived at KU….where he was an assistant. He probably has Wayne Welden’s new, undisclosed location and phone contact info.
REALLY OFF TOPIC….but, hey, it is a SLOW day…The Boss has been challenged to cancel his Italian Gigs since someone told him that Italy’s “alternative lifestyle laws” were WAY more regressive than NC and the seemingly innocent HB2 drama… SOME believe it is actually a “Get ROY into the Gov’s Chair” campaign being waged…..
I suppose that a lot of folks saw Jordan Speith’s demeanor and expressions on Sunday. Really gotta feel for that guy. However, there was joy in Chapel Hill. NOW, ORW’s expression and forlorned look is NOT the most pitiful thing that we have seen lately. BUT, in Jordan’s defense….he did NOT look like he added 50% to the number of Moons that he had seen. ORW looked like he aged from 65 to 95 when the winning Nova shot went SWISH…
Speith will be yesterday’s news tomorrow night is Golden State wins…
Back to work….TAXES are due….
04/22/2016 at 3:20 PM #102813maverick_ncsuParticipantAdventuroo, that’s the first time I’ve seen the LA Times article you posted, so thank you for posting. I’ve been a State fan my whole life and an alum now, but I was around 10 when this was going on, so I really didn’t know what was going on at that age.
This is truly an honest question (to all WP fans), if what the author of this article is remotely true, or if parts of it are true at least, then a lot more was going on than just selling of shoes or tickets, right? We weren’t graduating players anywhere near 50% of the time, having grades changed, having athletics bully academics, having players barely be eligible to play, athletic tutors doing the work for the athletes, etc. <—-aren’t these some of the things we’re angry at that are being overlooked as well at *NC?
Truly not trying to stir up anything. Just trying to be in the know as well as be honest in my look at my own school, so I don’t become like those at the other school who refuse to look honestly at the evidence. If some of this is true, than we’re not any better if we simply gloss over our own faults as simply selling some shoes and tickets, and then want another school scourged (which I absolutely do!).
Thank you for helping me as I was not in a position during this time to grasp what was going on.
04/23/2016 at 2:28 PM #102819PK PollarParticipantmaverick_ncsu,
It would be my pleasure to clarify these things for you. Others will provide even more clarification I am sure. It is important to understand the differences between events that led to decades of punishment for one University member organization to the current events where decades of infractions have not (yet) led to any punishment for another University member organization even though they have been public for years. You will not see this analysis in the main stream media, because they mostly went to the unpunished University member organization and still believe in what they used to call with great intensity, the Carolina Way.
First, the NCAA in the late 1980’s punished our school for not controlling complimentary tickets and shoes which some of our more capitalistic team members used to their advantage. This was one major violation which Mark Asher in the 12/13/1989 Washington Post quoted the NCAA Infractions Committee conclusion as saying, “In this case, the failure to exercise institutional responsibility concerned matters of omission, such as the absence of adequate compliance monitoring systems and slow responses to correct practices and procedures that the institution and its then director of athletics . . . should have recognized as fraught with potential for rules violations.”
This same article says there were “…four secondary violations, involving free meals, lodging and transportation, but said those violations had no impact on the sanctions imposed.”
Contrast this with the current situation at UNC-CHeats where the University implemented a program of no show classes that allowed [not student] athletes to maintain eligibility while not actually doing any academic work. Julius Peppers on the UNC-Cheats Dean’s List with a real GPA of 1.6, plagiarism from 5th grade papers from the Intranet, etc. While the response in Raleigh was to investigate and count the number of complimentary tickets that were mis-used and publicly acknowledge the short comings, the response in Chapel Hill (and in the UNC System Board of Governors office) has been to fight information coming out every step of the way.
SIX FREAKING MAJOR VIOLATIONS including ACADEMIC FRAUD. Complicity at the highest levels of the University Athletic Department (Dean E. Smith, et al), University Leaders (take your pick), UNC-CHeat Faculty (do they have any self-respect as they have been mysteriously quiet), UNC Board of Governors (how will this affect recruiting), former Governors of the Great State of North Carolina (Jim Martin and his [lack of] report).
There are so many misdeeds at UNC-Cheats that I can’t keep them all straight. There was something in there about lesbians and cupcakes, too, but I am too old to care.
I am more than happy for NC State’s program to be judged as long as the other program is actually judged. I believe that our worst player in the past would be an upgrade in intellectual quality for UNC-Cheats.
But it is not about the athletes (let them transfer out), there are many others who profited from this cheating and academic fraud. Bring them to account and punish the misdeeds. I call NOT upon the NCAA to do this, but the UNC Board of Governors. It is their responsibility. They are appointed by the State of North Carolina. They have the authority.
Of course, they don’t have the nuts.
Regards,
PK04/24/2016 at 11:33 AM #10283144rulesParticipantPlus, the kids at State in the 1980s who weren’t doing the work didn’t make the dean’s list, didn’t get degrees and weren’t paraded around as evidence of the N.C. State way.

04/25/2016 at 10:01 AM #102845maverick_ncsuParticipantFellas, thank you for the replies. And I wasn’t trying to in any way make an exact comparison with the atrocities that have been perpetrated for 2 decades and covered up at the other school*. I just wanted to hear from some of you that were following the Pack at that time so that I could be as informed as possible.
