I didn’t watch it because I turned on the UVa-Syracuse game just in time to see the first basket of the Syracuse run at the end, and I didn’t want to jinx Villanova.

Waking up at 12:30 AM cause I intentionally went to bed early to avoid the temptation to watch the game, then finding out they lost…Priceless!!

I did make sure my eyes really were focused on the phone before actually believing it.

So much fun watching Nova pull it out. And regardless of how you feel about the heels, you have to be happy with the team who won and watching this scrappy team play…knocking off Kansas, OU and UNC was impressive. They deserve to be champions.

Agreed Chop. Jay Wright and his boys earned that one. Happy to see it. And don’t look now but Nova is likely going to be in the mix again next year.

Nova == a star showing a sudden large increase in brightness and then slowly returning to its original state over a few months….
but after the Nova is “gone”… the universe has changed…

That does make one think about the unknown…

    Nice Bill!

I don’t know if anyone has been listening to Dan Lebatard and Stugatz… They have been doing doing their little looks like tournament:

Villanova was “Jay Cutler looks like the guy breaking into the house on an alarm commercial.” UNC-Ch was Jim Tomsula – “Sounds like a monster a creole grandma comes up with to keep kids quiet. Keep quiet or that Jim Tomsula is comin out tha swamp!”

It was nice to see my one word post from the game thread last night used in this thread title. Justice is what last night’s result was. When a public institution is corrupted to the point that it chooses to manipulate the system one more time after being exposed in an attempt to generate one last ill gotten gain, only justice can describe the beginning of them getting theirs.

So many of the cheater celebrity class gathered in H-Town this weekend because they knew this was the last time UNCCHeat would take the court without being officially judged guilty and forever having the stain of the worst academic scandal (if not the worst overall) in the history of college sports present on their puke blue unis. Last night really did mark the end of an era. The closest the NCAA has ever come to vacating a Mens Basketball NC are the two runner-up finishes that have been vacated. In a few weeks they will vacate two titles from one school. This will eventually humble the smug, entitled holes. It may take 10 years, but it will happen. That place will never be the same.

The one question in ALL of this scandal is “Where the hell has the BOG been?” That group single handedly took State out in 89 for next to nothing, why the hell aren’t they doing much worse to the holes? THEY should be demanding the banners come down, THEY should be chopping off heads. IT happened on their watch and they have done absolutely NOTHING except fire Ross, which he should have never been hired in the first place. We can’t hold the NCAA accountable but we can for that group.

None of this changes the fact that if we can’t start recruiting kids who want to play for us for 4 years, we won’t build anything substantial. Purvis, Washington, Lewis, and now the twins. We can’t help that kids want to leave for money, that’s true everywhere, but we’ve recruited enough talent to compete for championships and it keeps walking out the door. Sad.

YogiNC, you are INDEED, smarter. Your comments set my memory disk drive into motion and a little googling confirmed my recollection….

I urge all to read or at least skim the following article.

    http://articles.latimes.com/1989-08-31/sports/sp-1885_1_jim-valvano

Known originally as the Spangler Report, it was a witch hunt by the UNC Controlled BOG and Legislature. If you have ever read or listened to the audio book…”Lifetime Contract….”, you will note that the original meeting with the “investigative committee” started off with a remark…”Coach, why don’t you give the players a little extra spending money….this thing would never have happened if they did not have to sell their shoes…”

Tells YOU a lot about the professional credentials of that group. ALSO note that the NCAA NEVER, EVER found any academic issues…They cited sales of shoes and complimentary tickets and the Lead Investigator wrote V a note saying that he would be honored to have his son play for Jimmy V.

The Spangler Report also had discussions and verbiage that wanted the teams’ graduation rate to be HIGHER than the University’s student averages.

Later, the Spangler report was used as the “lever or reason” to withhold the contractural obligation or buyout clause that Jimmy V was due. It was based on a loose interpretation that he had NOT “Encouraged academic performance”. WOW, wonder if that is in ORW’s or Butch’s contracts.

It was a financial ploy by then chancellor Larry Monteith. V got less than half of what he was due. You WILL recall that Butch got FULL benefits.

    http://www.nytimes.com/1990/04/08/sports/college-basketball-nc-state-pays-valvano-to-leave.html

Sometimes we forget how rigged the system was and how convenient it is to cite NCSU Fanatacism or LLS (Loco Lobo Syndrome) as the reason that the NCSU folks are so irate at the lack of concern about a system of academic fraud and scandal that was installed just a few years after Valvano was FIRED for such.

Dean was the instigator of AfroAmerican Studies which was copied from Kansas and John Swofford was the AD that rammed it through the UNC Faculty Senate and UNC BOT. That was circa 1992, so this is not exactly yesterday’s headline.

    WOW, I feel better….

    Thanks, Yogi….

Catholic school…I see what you did there.

Very happy about Nova winning. No wall to wall coverage of the team landing, making speeches, basking in glory and all the other garbage that we’d be subjected to.

Adventureoo, to this day that is what burns my butt the most over all of this. The BOG should have had at least 10 people from the hill hung on crosses if this had been a tit for tat on “rules” violations. Instead I expect them to announce a grand monument to Dean any day now. Personally I’d settle for a firing squad (which I’d gladly volunteer for) and flatten the place with an A bomb, but we both know that ain’t gonna happen.

The BOG and UNC are 2 sides of the same coin. Both are totally corrupt. UNC has become too big to fail, just like the Wall Street banks.

All that matters over there are basketball championships. They thought nothing of ruining their academic reputation with outright institutional fraud by creating a bogus major that would keep athletes eligible who were not college material. SACS put them on probation. When has that ever happened? But they kept on with their wagon circling if only to get one more banner. True believers all, they are willing to ride that raft right over the falls and take the university with them. A UNC diploma won’t be worth the paper it’s printed on.

It’s a PUBLIC university partly funded by the taxpayer. But their minions are to be found in all levels of gov’t. And they protect and enable this scandalous fraud.

But, as Joe Ovies would tell you (and he does, at least 100 times a day), the current crop of “student”-athletes didn’t have anything to do with the scandal.

What Joe forgets to mention is that 18 years of cheating and reaping the rewards from it goes a long way in recruiting. How many of those guys would have gone to Carolina if the program for 18 years would have had to rely on “student”-athletes that could actually pass the classes?

How many fewer ACC titles, NCAA titles, etc…would they have? Would not having them have changed the playing field? Would Roy Williams ever have left Kansas?

Just like we can’t blame the current players for the scandal, no one can say whether the current players would even be here if it hadn’t been for the cheating.

    Perhaps we should have a “gentlemen’s rule”…

What goes on “On The Court” stays “On The Court”.
To me, what makes college basketball what it is, at least on one level, is it’s inequities…
that is, the clear Poetry of it’s David and Goliath stories… that on any given night, most anybody can beat anybody else.

    AND THEN….
the rest of it is absolutely FAIR GAME to be settled “In Court” when a fair political process fails.

    ——————
Leveling the field, so to speak, inevitably turns College basketball into the minor leagues for the NBA…
neither of which I have any interest in watching or following….

BOTB Disclaimer: None of the above should be construed, nor is it intended or implied, to be a Defense of decades of cheating by the Former Flagship in Orange County. Nothing could be further from the truth. That said, castration seems reasonable to me; hanging does not. Besides, based on public enrollment statistics, the former Flagship is nothing but a women’s college in disguise.

Unless Karl Hess and crew are officiating….and oops, I forgot another one…when the game is played by the rule book, not an interpretation of what the officials might think the rules should be..

“A strike is not a strike when it is high and outside of the strike zone” no matter what the ump says!

Any of you holding out for the NCAA, Jesus or anyone else of importance holding the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill accountable for the most documented systematic academic fraud in college sports history is about as delusional as me hoping to wake up with a Ferarri in my driveway.

I WOULD LOVE TO BE WRONG on this one, I just don’t see it…given up on any of the conversation. I’ll take this last second shot by Nova as a big ole GO F*CK YOURSELF to the NCAA and UNC. The master plan has been thwarted, Villanova will surely pay.

Fergie, that logic is the same as Vitale pontificating about what a travesty it was that Louisville self imposed a post season ban in light of the hooker scandal. The “these kids had nothing to do with it” defense carries no weight. What are you going to do – go unpunished for breaking the rules in a criminal way? Sorry Dickie, don’t get it. Louisville obviously thought it was serious enough in an effort to mitigate damages.

By the way, Louisville imposed even more penalties on itself today.

Louisville has announced it will impose additional self-imposed penalties in connection to the ongoing investigation of a sex scandal involving its basketball team.

The basketball team will lose two scholarships, one in 2017-18 and one in 2018-19, coaches will be docked 30 recruiting days, and the program will reduce the number of official visits it offers to recruits by two, one in 2016-17 and one in 2017-18.

    Bill – Beach

Speaking of Louisville, WRAL of HB2 Trouncing fame, announced tonight that Louisville, in the spirit of self emulation, has FINED itself with SELF IMPOSED SANCTIONS…to wit…

Cut out ONE scholly per year
Cut back on the amount of time the Louisville coaches can “Talk” to recruits
Cut back on something else….which escapes me
Requires the use of Condoms when recruits are in the company of Pre-Paid Hookers….which also applies to their dads.
Endorsed the LGBTXYZ legislation passed by the Charlotte City Council and extends the same “enjoyment” of aforementioned Hookers to the MOMS of Recruits as well.

NOW that IS news…..of which the first 3 are fact…but I expect the next two any day now….

^the POBs at Da’ville are just doing the NCAA’s dirty work for them…
BUT the NCAA will still add ONE MORE penalty no matter how many Da’ville self imposes…

which leads back to the larger question..

What will the NCAA do in the clear case at hand where many more egregious sins were committed over a much longer period of time AND the defendent flaunted their self perceived righteousness in the judges’ face?
