Ultimately, State was able to scrap enough to put up a respectable score and show that the gap between the programs isn’t nearly what it looked like i

Everyone seems to think VT to the Belk bowl is a done deal…

As far as the game yesterday…here is what I posted to PP:

For me, the game changed on the late hit in the 1st quarter..we had just scored to cut the lead to 7 and had stopped them. Was it a late hit, yes. However, I can’t understand why the two officials who are on top of the play don’t throw a flag…but the official 40+ yards away throws it late. Hell, even the announcer said “the flag came flying in from Chapel Hill.” I’d love to see a different angle with that officials view of the play. They scored on the next play and we were done for after that…

^ Couldn’t agree more. I was so irate that the arguments that ensued for me with UNC fans around me had me acting in a way that embarrassed me.

Clarksa – it would have been interesting to see what the game would have been like without this call.

But again, when they needed to score they did. When they needed to keep us out of the end zone they did. When we needed to stop them, we didn’t.

As for our strategy versus theirs – this is why sociopaths are generally successful. If you don’t let a moral compass guide you, it’s very easy to achieve financial success. If Tony Romo doesn’t get hurt the cowboys are probably the top team in the NFC with a great offense and a d led by Greg Hardy.

Sfn – yesterday definitely represented a relapse for me in my behavior as a fan. I should probably just stop going to this game…I approach it with such a sense of dread that it isn’t enjoyable unless we blow them out.

And I really don’t see how them and their fans wear their colors with pride, but alas, this is human nature.

the ‘problem’ with football — well, any sporting event really — is that we don’t know the impact that a play has on how everything else happens.

Yes, they scored when they needed….but, WOULD they have been able to do that if our confidence was higher and there’s was lower…or, would they have called the same plays that allowed that created those results if the situation and score on the board was different.

That play was insane. I don’t think there is any doubt that our guy touched Williams. I think the refs standing at the play were close enough to realize that it wasn’t a ‘hit’ and that Williams was acting some. The fact that the ref from (literally) FORTY yards away felt as though he could see it and chose to throw that flag was insane.

With the Holes record, should anybody be surprised at the poor officiating. Couldn’t see the late hit on Williams, but is kinda crazy that an official nowhere near the play throws a flag. But I did clearly see from my section that Switzer trapped a ball, and was called a completion, and even though the fans/coaches expressed their displeasure, the officials let the game continue, and in another incident with a pass to the endzone, from MW, Switzer, held our guy preventing him from intercepting. Swofford should be proud. Just hope Clemson is back to form next Saturday, because I can’t bare the thought of hearing loud mouth Tarhole fans.

I’m of the opinion that our team shouldn’t be so fragile as to let a rightly called late hit, regardless of which ref called it, cause them to give up 35 points in 15 minutes of football.

THIS IS AWFUL. We came out flat, tentative, and weak. Don’t do or say ANYTHING that looks like excuse making. For f-ck’s sake.

The “catch” call was much more galling, but the officiating was not responsible for our embarrassing ourselves yesterday. Not one iota. Now would the fix have been in even HAD we shown up to play? Perhaps, but we will never now, and did nothing to force the issue.

Chop, it’s been about 7 years since I’ve watched this game in front of other human beings. Even when just watching on TV. I am nowhere close to human. I know it’s childish and not right of me, but I just have to make allowances for it at this point. If I kept going to these games live, I was going to hit someone. And I’ve never hit anyone in my life.

Also, anything about the rigged game in this conference is ultimately our own fault. Our administration knowingly signed up long-term for the Swoffy Cabal, despite it being the lowest-money major conference by far, without even exploring our options to leave for someone who would treat us like an equal partner (TAMU) or demanding changes and impartial, professional leadership for the league going forward (Oklahoma, Okie State).

We decided to quietly bend over and take it, and that gets predictable end results.

But yesterday was about showing up for a big moment timid, and getting our ass handed to us.

Tough schedule next year: at Clemson, Notre Dame, FSU, at UNC, at Louisville, Miami, at Syracuse, BC, Wake, at ECU, ODU. Especially with a new QB. We are probably looking at a worse record next year than this year. I like DD, but regressing in record next year is going to make his seat pretty hot in 2017.

Speaking of new QB, who is that projected to be?

Yes Tau – that’s very true.

Next year is huge. Unfortunately, it is set up so that another 3-5/6-6 regular season can be called a “success”

Jalen McClendon I believe is projected starter.

Bjd – I would hate to go the isolation route but it may be best – at least for that game.

Oh well. At least we didn’t lose to a team using a fullback as their starting qb.

Just to clarify, although I pointed out that the officiating was suspect, the outcome of the game would have not changed, because we came out of the gates unprepared, and when we finally got on track, we were too far behind. So there are no excuses from me on the performance of our team. Blame nobody but themselves for this one.

I was not pleased with the way they ran up and down the field on us. Two backs get to the century mark – and Hood absolutely goes off for a career day. All the talk about stopping Marquise and the pass and we forget how to tackle.

Despite all the uncertainty with the pending sanctions, they have managed to build a very nice football program.

Lightning in a bottle, Wulfpack, and I don’t mean it to sound flippant.
    They are sound THIS year.

Now. Chizik will be gone without a question. Fedora, most likely, too. His destination job may not be there, just yet, but he ain’t hanging around for what is coming to Chapel Hill. His weight will never be higher than it is at this moment.

Either one of both may end up at UGA.

Duke was the flavor of the month 2 years ago at 10-4, ACC 6-2, then 9-4, ACC 5-3, this year 7-5, 4-4 ACC

Unx 2015 pretty weak schedule; 2016 Georgia, FSU. Who is their QB next year? Could win 10 against another weak schedule but I doubt it

Agreed, very little chance they can hang on to both of those guys with what is coming. Best they can hope for is Fedora gets a job this year and Chizik is inked to be the head guy. That actually concerns me though as Chizik is a far better coach.

I don’t know whether they will be able to sustain it but right now they are beating us by a wide margin as far as recruiting goes.

I made a goddamned fool out of myself in the stands. Like previous posters, I just need to not ever go to this game as its never enjoyable, unless we beat them by 60 and multiple CHeat players get hauled to the hospital. Hate those bastards with every fiber of my being and it brings the worst out of me.

    +1 etab4u.
the Hat’s bargaining position is as good as it gets.
Chizik has his choice of jobs.
    new staff for them,
    same ol’ for us.

Just had to register and post about
the game yesterday…. Life long absolute die hard Pack fan…daughters a sophomore at State, however I am a closet UNCC grad. This is my first year with season tickets and my 1st State vs the holes game in person….So glad to hear that other folks have trouble behaving at this game…I had to leave @ the half or the smarmy hole fan in front of me was going to eat my fist!
This is a great site….very therapeutic to read after the debacle yesterday ….that I wasn’t the only one having trouble with my passion for the Pack and my HATRED for the holes. Now to convince my wife…….
