The Flagship certainly earned that banner. For decades, UNC institutionalized rampant academic fraud that kept its star athletes eligible — all thoro

At this point, I have no idea how it will turn out and honestly can’t follow it anymore and haven’t done so in years. LOL it has gone on this long. It’s rigged I guess, so I will just cheer for the Pack when they are decent enough to stomach watching.
04/04/2017 at 12:26 PM #122317TheAliasTrollParticipantPrecedent has been set. Aside from valuing the spirit of fair competition in sports, why would you NOT cheat?
04/04/2017 at 12:28 PM #122318Pack84ParticipantThey can just go straight to hell and take all their idiot Wal-Mart fans with them.
04/04/2017 at 12:32 PM #122319BrickyardMayhemParticipantCan we get a Producer to film a 30 For 30 when then is all said and done?!?! I’m so amazed by the lack of knowledge on what has taken place with this saga when you step outside the state of North Carolina. I live in Texas and most of my “sports friends” are hardly familiar with this most incredible and unbelievable story…
04/04/2017 at 2:24 PM #122324NCSU88Participant*NC’s fraud was mentioned this morning in Memphis on 98.1 The Max, Drake in the morning show. This guy pulls no punches. After I heard it, I forwarded yesterday’s article to him, as I did to about 15 folks yesterday. I make sure my Navy friends in particular know all about LT Brian Lubitz and how he tarnished the integrity of the entire Officer Corps by pulling his stunt with the Naval Weapons Systems course. I have tried several times to let the submarine USS North Carolina know that by supporting *NC and flying that flag, they are condoning fraud. Yes, it’s personal to me.
04/04/2017 at 2:27 PM #122325Hawkeye WhitneyParticipantESPN will never air that “30 for 30”. But stay tuned for the Roy Williams country boy, rags to riches biopic.

They’ve been through so much, and cooperated too!!

04/05/2017 at 1:51 PM #122334AdventurooParticipantFYI,
History Lesson
The $18 Million banner is actually the result of a “Capitalist” manipulation. Remember that UNC is the university of the Liberal and Down Trodden.
The UNC Foundation or the Chapel Hill Fund is a multibillion $$ fund of endowments and such to UNC….NOT the UNC-Consolidated.
The fund managers are paid WELL and they deserve to be. They make money by “Building THAT”. They invest in securities, real estate, venture capital….maybe even Porn and Prostitution. BUT, they make money.
There is a “stipulation”. It is called “Excess Earnings”. The fund is self sustaining and has to “reinvest” in itself for purpetuity….SO that it can “cover all the philantrophic” liability or causes.
HOWEVER….there is a “Bogey” on the earning. SO, if the fund exceeds the really LOW (or think High Handicap if you are a golfer), then any EXCESS earnings is considered as “petty cash for the discretion of the Chancellor and the UNC-BOT Chairman. SO, the $18 Million does NOT come from Public or University Funds….it comes from the excess profits or earnings of the UNC Foundation Chapel Hill fund. BURIED in the minutes or a UNC-BOT meeting was a “revision” on the protocols (think the rules for an expense account). Ms. Folt and the UNC BOT Chair simply fill out a “Withdrawl Slip” and the funds are withdrawn or transferred to a special “account”. Could call it the Khancelors Kitty or KK. THEN she pays the PR firm, the outside counsel, etc.The Average for a In-State UNC Total cost is probably around $35K (you can look it up). SO that would be $140K for 4 years. Round up to $150K.
They have spent enough for 120 FULL TIME FOUR YEAR Schollys…..trying to keep a couple of friggn’ banners in the DES Nose Dome and also to maintain their Aristocratic Image.
DES started AFAM about the time Jimmy V died.
Forget about an ESPN 30 for 30 The head of ESPN is a UNC grad and more liberal than Roy (Ray?) Cooper. He is sidelining OTA talent for “conservative” outburst….like saying “Gee, we should ALL stand up for the National Banner”.
It will really be interesting to see how Louisville and their LOIC allegations fare in all this. PSU got “Sanduskyed” without the benefit of a lubricant….Bend OVER Lousiville…..borrow some KY Jelly from the Hookers….you’re gonna need it.
EOR
04/05/2017 at 2:33 PM #122335tractor57ParticipantFor my benefit how was PSU “Sanduskyed”? They knew his issues and clammed up to save themselves. Loiusville might be next in line. UNX maybe or maybe not.
04/05/2017 at 2:37 PM #122336WulfpackParticipantGood question, tractor. And everything that has come out since the punishment just confirms it was warranted. It was all a big cover up. Which is disgusting.
04/05/2017 at 3:45 PM #122337tractor57ParticipantThe cover up was worse than the crimes in my opinion. In that respect much like UNX. Louisville and others.
04/05/2017 at 5:09 PM #122338AdventurooParticipantNot trying to diminish what happened at PSU. However, the NCAA in a fit of PC went off the deep end. Therefore, when all the dust settled and such, the NCAA backed off and reduced the sanctions.
If I recall correctly, there are also criminal charges against the Ex President and some of his staff. That has been a highly litigated scenario.
The NCAA reversed course after going off the deep end. My point is that if the NCAA is in a holier than thou mode for Louisville, then they are toast. However, it will also be interesting to see how years of academic fraud to ensure eligibility for “competitive advantage is viewed compared to providing, from NON Louisville “Sources”, certain benefits to improve recruiting. LOIC is what, I THINK, that Louisville and Ricky are charged with…and LOIC seems to be far from what the NCAA is indicating with the AFAM and Grades scandal….which, to a certain degree, covers two national BB championships.
Sorry if my example was a bit harsh….
04/05/2017 at 6:25 PM #122339WulfpackParticipantCan you please explain what is “PC” about punishing child molesters, and a program that harbored them?
04/05/2017 at 6:57 PM #122340TheCOWDOGModeratorWuf…That’s the question I, too was gonna pull.
Then I was gonna expunge.Roo. Please get it through your f#ckin’ knoggin. We all understand OCD. We know you cannot help yourself. Start another thread for your politcal bloviations if the one presented specifically for you doesn’t work.
04/05/2017 at 7:10 PM #122341wirogersParticipantThe Penn State issue was horrible and all those who have been and will continue to be brought to justice (another Board of Governor fell today) are getting what they deserve for the horrible things they did However, the acts at Penn State while they included a coach and the cover up by the staff did not affect the eligibility of the student athletes. The student athletes did not receive improper benefits, they did not receive grades they did not deserve, they did not receive additional benefits on recruiting trips; all that was done was a criminal act of one coach and the criminal acts that covered that up.
In the end this was not an issue the NCAA should have ever been ruling on, due to the outrage of a coach being a child molester (the PC thing) did the NCAA pull a knee jerk reaction. Those that criminally covered it up trying to save their bums accepted any quick penalty from the NCAA hoping it would all go away. Luckily a few in PA continued down the criminal investigation and have continued to bring those to justice that needed to be brought to justice. This was not an athletic issue it was a criminal issue. If the NCAA is going to start to penalize schools for criminal activities of coaching staffs then we need to be making sure our coaches have their seat belts on and do not speed!!
The issues at Louisville and UNX are completely different than those at PSU. The NCAA hopefully will act accordingly, but I am not holding my breath for UNX to have anything done and Louisville will be slapped back into the Dark Ages.
04/05/2017 at 8:37 PM #122342freshmanin83ParticipantI never understood why the NCAA wanted psu money. They have plenty of money already and don’t need more. This was not about the ncaa it should be about the victims. Give money to them.
04/05/2017 at 8:44 PM #122343gso packbackerParticipantSpot on wirogers.
As for both the NCAA and UNCx, they remind of the following quote.
âWhen the facts are on your side, pound the facts. When the law is on your side, pound the law. When neither is on you side, pound the table.â
Sadly, UNCx is beating them at their own game. I wonder how much the NCAA has spent in comparison to UNCx.
04/05/2017 at 11:44 PM #122344SaccoVParticipantI saw this on TOS and thought it would be enjoyed here. I agree with this dude. We can’t give up the fight for the story.
This is my response to a link posted on Facebook to a high school colleague and UNC fan (not alum). This short discussion is more reason than ever that our posts and threads must continue against the PR machine employed by the BOG and UNC.
My response is to the posting of a link to Amazon Video of “Unverified” to which I respond:BenStoneSays:
An interview with Jay Bilas is included in this film. He has firsthand knowledge of the scandal, right?Wal-marter:
More than mostBenStoneSays:
This film must be Chapter 2 of the ‘redemption’?Wal-marter:
Chapter 1 actually ?BenStoneSays:
Of course. Three investigations (two done internally and paid for by the University) obviously were prejudiced against the University.Wal-marter:
I’m not going to debate. Stuff happened. Just ready for NCAA to rule and move on. I didn’t trust them before this and won’t after this. So nothing changes for me.BenStoneSays:
So why are you waiting for them to rule if you do not nor will not recognize their authority?Wal-marter:
It’s not up to me to do anything. Plus, they don’t have the authority to handle academic issues which is what they are trying to do. Just like the Penn State case they are overreaching and in the end they will not make anyone happy because Carolina will have dealt with years of embarrassment and the banners will stay right where they are. Honestly, no one against UNC cares unless men’s basketball gets hurt and I don’t think that happens.BenStoneSays:
Academic eligibility is not within the NCAA’s purview?Wal-marter:
The NCAA is an athletics organization. The academic boards are the ones who judge the academics and they haven’t removed any type of certification. It is what it is. Things were done that shouldn’t have been, but it has not been proven to be an athletics doing to this point. Were athletes involved in the classes/department in question? Yes. But it has not been proven to be specific to athletes only. Whether people like it or not, regardless of what the NCAA does or does not do, Carolina has been punished. There will be a punishment in some form by the NCAA, but it won’t matter to the ABCers unless men’s basketball gets hammered. Like it or not that is the truth!BenStoneSays:
2 Final Fours and a National Championship. I’m sure most teams would love to be so punished.Wal-marter:
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
BTW, none of these players had anything to do with what happened so don’t waste your time with that.BenStoneSays:
Who was it that mysteriously ‘found’ some additional violations in August of 2015? Was that UNC? http://www.espn.com/college-sports/story/_/id/13437563/north-carolina-tar-heels-uncover-potentially-more-violations-academic-scandal
http://es.pn/1IOkD8zWal-marter:
Did you see anything about men’s basketball in that article? I have said from day one that women’s basketball was in big trouble because they had direct contact with what had happened. I’m pretty sure that same person helped in men’s soccer so i’m not surprised that they will be in for some issues.BenStoneSays:
Read the second paragraph, which clearly states “Its [UNC’s] response to the NCAA, due next week, will be delayed.” If men’s basketball would not have been affected by the NCAA’s ruling, why would UNC delay their response? Second, if men’s basketball wasn’t involved, why did the NCAA issue a third Notice of Allegations that does mention men’s basketball?Wal-marter:
My fault. I quick skimmed and didn’t see that. However, No facts. Just guesses. I’m done. You have your view and I have mine and it doesn’t matter anyway because we aren’t in charge either way. Only fact I know for sure is as of Monday night we are the national champions in 2017 and that is really all I care about at this point.BenStoneSays:
The Carolina Way.Wal-marter:
Whatever man! It is what it is.Wal-marter#2/Academic Exception Admittant:

Seriously?? You mean NC State was put on probation? I bet Mark Gottfried is going to get fired for this!!04/06/2017 at 5:57 AM #122345tractor57ParticipantOn the PSU thing – would it be different if as math professor was using the facilities to the same end? I have no issue with thinking the NCAA went rogue – I do have an issue with administrators KNOWING covering up illegal activity.
That might or might not be the same with ‘ville. UNX maybe not but there is ample evidence that they knowingly created a sham department with the goal of keeping athletes in school. Are they the first? No. Are they the most aggressive? Yes.04/06/2017 at 9:14 AM #122346packof81ParticipantSacco,
“Walmarter” says the NCAA doesn’t have jurisdiction over academic issues, which is the party line coming out of Chapel Hill. What he must mean is he doesn’t think they have jurisdiction over academic issues at UNC.
But they have penalized other schools for academic issues. So perhaps there’s one standard for UNC and another for everyone else.
04/06/2017 at 11:02 AM #122347PapaJohnParticipantI’ll tell you what, if I ever get my butt in some serious deep water – I want UNC’s lawyer.
This has got to be one of the most incredible infractions in the history of college athletics, and it sure feels like they are going to get off totally unscathed.
The Louisville guys have got to be kicking themselves for admitting anything and self imposing the one year post season ban. Now the NCAA is after them again saying, “Hey, you admitted guilt (saving us a ton of work btw), now we get to decide on the penalty.”
I have to believe that case studies will be written for law schools about how this lawyer (or probably team of lawyers) pulled off this magic trick.
Unbelievable.04/07/2017 at 3:25 PM #122360GoldenChainParticipantFYI,

Now roo, you know I love but let’s not exaggerate. Their endowment is only $2.989 billion, but point taken, plenty of interest to feed the slush fund and pay Blood’s mom to be the school …uh, sleaze to service the admins and coaches plus tones left over for those delayed trust funds players get if they stay an extra year instead of going pro. What other explanation could there be for 1st round picks stay in school and risking injury? “love of school GC, you’re just a ‘hater’!” yeah right whatever. Why don’t they stay at Kentucky or Duke once they’re a lottery pick? BTW, I am a hater of unx.
And as far as unx being a school for the downtrodden…. 8.4% AA. (57.7% chicks BTW).
