If you’re looking at seeding for the ACCT and where the pack might end up I’m thinking the 10 seed might be totally accurate. You look at the remaining schedule I see it breaking down like this:
“Sure wins”: (H) Wake, Miami, BC. (A) VT.
Too close to call: (H) UNC, FSU. (A) Miami, Clemson
Probable losses: (A) Cuse, Pitt, UNC.
This team won’t win an NCAA Tournament game and probably has about a 3.78% chance of even making the tournament, but I’m not despondent over what I see.
1) A highly touted freshman PG who is in over his head and taking his lumps but who works hard on the defensive end even when he’s struggling to make a basket.
2) A trio of freshman bigs one of whom has out performed expectations while the other two have shown steady improvement. They all play like freshmen at times.
3) A pair of transfers who have flaws (that’s why they are transfers) but have started to figure out how to fit in. One of them is clearly the emotional leader of the team.
4) A fifth year senior having by far his most productive year
5) A highly touted sophomore whose physical limitations are limiting his effectiveness and playing time
6) One of the best scorers in the country, who manages to put up 20 points/night in spite of his complete lack of a perimeter shot.
I consider this Gott’s transitional year because of all of the player turnover. We need shooters badly. If we play like this next year we should all be deeply concerned about Gott but this is not a bad result for this collection of parts.
Plus… it appears clear from here… that five straight days of practice cemented the X&0s lessons that begun in August. We played good half court offense in a game that did not have a abundance of fast breaks. Our kids, for the first time this season, looked like they all were on the same page and knew exactly what they were trying to do.
I missed the game but this sounds positive. I really haven’t seen this in 3 years. I appreciate your assessment.
Free throws…it’s a broken record! Never be a good team without getting better from the stripe. Wins will mostly be marginal, and we’ll lose a lot of games by a couple points due to lousy free throw shooting. Just gotta get better!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
