The game of baseball, and indeed the sporting world in general, has lost a legend.
Lawrence Peter “Yogi” Berra passed away Tuesday night at the age of 90.
“Always go to other people’s funerals, otherwise they won’t come to yours.” ~Yogi Berra
Still find it amusing that the management of Hanna-Barbera claimed that the Yogi Bear cartoon character was not derived from the Yankees’ catcher…RIP, Yogi.
As a kid, the family would do a weekend series in Cleveland when the Yanks were in town.
Early mass on Sunday, right behind Yogi and mates…always.
As an adult, I live by a bunch of #8’s philosophies. Saloon and restaurant choices…”Nobody goes there anymore. It’s too crowded.”
“All pitchers are liars and crybabies”
….was my personal favorite.
“So what if I’m ugly. I never seen anyone hit with his face.”
….was a close second.
Stinkin’ Yankee or not, Yog’ was a bad mutha’.
As a kid growing up …. I was a Yankees fan…
First day of little league baseball practice (1965), the coach asked me what position I wanted to play…
I said “Catcher”…
—————–
“When you get to the fork in the road… take it…”
But, Bill, did you wear “8” like me? First day, 1965, hell, I was a soph at State and on my way to the Army to “catch” some more!
"Whomp 'em, Up, Side the Head"!
No… Mr. Stick… I wasn’t like you….
