Rye – good call. Turner really stepped up his rebounding towards the end of the year. He also Lee the team in charges…which indcates he’s probably a decent help defender.
04/01/2015 at 7:48 AM #83952Alpha WolfKeymasterFrom the mouths of babes:
I showed my 11 year old nephew the Google Maps Pac-Man game. Twenty minutes later, he’s laughing and showed me that he had set up a map of Chapel Hill and said that Pac-Man was the NCAA chasing down Carolina’s coaches.

04/01/2015 at 8:32 AM #83954PapaJohnParticipantSomeone please notify KW of the new, recently enacted, hard to find documented, NCAA rule allowing only one transfer out of a program per offseason.
Sorry, Patrick already got it.04/01/2015 at 9:11 AM #83957TexpackParticipantHenderson needs to be called BBGunner
04/01/2015 at 10:11 AM #83960Alpha WolfKeymasterIf Henderson is as good a three-point specialist as his WVU stats suggest, I think I may call him “The Sniper.”
04/01/2015 at 11:19 AM #83961RickKeymasterHenderson gives us the BLT back court (Barber, Lacey and Terry).
Bad I know. At least it is better than Cat-ney and Lacey.
We need to see him play to give him a real nickname.
04/01/2015 at 2:27 PM #83974WTNYParticipantAnyone willing to give a SFN nickname review, please? I’ve been royally confused on a few of the threads.
04/01/2015 at 2:37 PM #83975WufpackerParticipantI may miss some, but off the top of my head…
Current:
Hipster Cat (or really just about anything cat related) – Cat Barber
Almond Joy (he’s got nuts) – Trevor Lacey
Frenchie or Nard Dog – Lennard Freeman
Angel of Death (AoD) – Kyle Washington
Twin A (Caleb) and Twin B (Cody) – the Martins
King Hippo (KH) and this year ALMKH (A leaner meaner) – BeeJay Anya
I’ll let BJD decide if he’d like to publicly share the one he privately coined for Abu.Past:
Black Scott Wood (BSW) – Ralston Turner
Wee Baby Seamus – Tyler Lewis
Buckets or Cuz – TJ Warren04/01/2015 at 3:08 PM #83979WTNYParticipantThanks! Almond Joy was one that had me confused.
04/01/2015 at 3:51 PM #83983RickKeymasterWhere did ANgel of Death come from? I missed that one
04/01/2015 at 4:48 PM #83984BJD95KeymasterThe key addendum is when WBS whined and bitched on his way out he lost the right to his beloved nickname and became TAFKAWBS (The Artist Formerly Known As Wee Baby Seamus).
Wee Baby Seamus is an Archer reference, and was wufpacker’s initial Glorious Contribution to the Collective, IIRC.
I got enough misdirected shit for KH’s proud and very apt nickname, I can go no more un-pc in the public domain, even as an Obama voter. Sorry, kids. Speaking of which, at the end of the 2013-14 season, I had lunch with a work friend who is an ACC nut who is not a State fan (and thus not familiar with SFN terms). Out of nowhere, he says “You know who Anya really looks like? King Hippo, from Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out!!”
Validation, forever mine. KH is also probably my favorite player since Monroe, even more so than Curtis Marshall (which will shock everyone who was in undergrad with me). When he won the LSU game, I yelled loud enough to wake the dead two counties over.
Angel of Death came from the thread where we couldn’t find any logical reason (after testing many hypotheses) for why we had worse records as KW’s point totals increased. I imagined him reading it, then before the next game muttering in the tunnel (like the guy at the nuclear plant in that old Simpsons episode) “I am the angel of death, the time of reckoning is at hand.” It just kind of stuck, and like Almond Joy, could be delightfully multipurpose (that one started as sometimes how he made us nuts, but then he had balls of steel in the NCAAT, and it morphed).

04/01/2015 at 7:57 PM #83993pakfanistanParticipantI need something to happen on the recruiting front. It feels like it’s been an eterrrrrrrrnity since we got our last commit, or even hit of interest from a player. I’m sure there’s stuff going on, but as a person with no connections, damn it’s quiet.
04/01/2015 at 8:34 PM #83995WTNYParticipantWell, I came away from that knowing much more about the SFN nicknames while at the same time a bit concerned about BJD95 … š
04/02/2015 at 1:43 AM #84000PackerInRussiaParticipant^ You mean BJD’s communist transformation hasn’t concerned you š
04/02/2015 at 2:53 AM #84001WufpackerParticipantHow dare you try to quell the free expression of the proletariat!?!?
Or maybe our Uber cross marketing has taken ahold after all, and zero stars are due for the ‘cabbie’ who can’t tell meth from opiates. LMAO.
(Yeah, I know that’s gonna sound like gibberish to most of you)

It is concerning. No freshmen for this year and I do not really hear anything. We are going to lose a lot after next year and it would be nice to have some experience in the fold to replace them.
04/02/2015 at 9:34 AM #84004BJD95KeymasterHey, I never falsely advertised as being anything remotely close to sane. Yeehaw!
And TRUST IN GLORIOUS FIVE YEAR PLAN!
04/02/2015 at 10:03 AM #84006Pack LeaderParticipantIt is concerning. No freshmen for this year and I do not really hear anything.
I actually like Gotts gameplan as far as scholarship spacing. If you over recruit, kids get unhappy & you’re left with mass transfer within the program. We lost 2 scholarship players but replace BSW with Henderson immediately (upgrade). So what position do we need to fill? In todays play-now world, a worthy ACC-caliber player wont sit for 2 years for his spot to “open up”.
We are still in the hunt for two TOP players (Ingram & Newton) that we really dont need. If they come GREAT, if not, no big deal we have our squad in place. Lets not fill up open scholarships with mediocre talent just because have an opening.
04/02/2015 at 10:12 AM #84008VaWolf82KeymasterUnused scholarships eventually turn into open holes in your line-up whenever kids leave early. If no one leaves early this year, it will be the first time during Gott’s tenure.

We only have nine scholarship players for next year. Hardly an over abundance of players.
04/02/2015 at 10:44 AM #84012PapaJohnParticipant^ Agree
Having a year with no incoming players just doesn’t feel right. I get the “fully loaded” rationale, but I think we’ve seen a trend toward longer benches this year in some programs.
Duke is still pretty short, but Orange County has 10 guys playing almost every game, Michigan state plays nine, Wisconsin plays 8 guys every game with another getting regular minutes, and of course Kentucky plays 10.I doubt we’ll get either of those two high profile guys, and I think the staff knows that. So I hope there is other activity going on of which we are unaware, and not just focus on next year.

This is a tough line to walk. Do you throw away scholarships just to get bodies? That didn’t work out too well for State or Herb when he had four transfers out of six scholarships given out over a two-year period. Obviously, empty spots on the bench might not work out any better.
Normally, I would say that this is the time to take some chances on potential diamonds in the rough that would be willing to work and wait for playing time. But I’m just not sure that there are many kids these days that fit this description.
04/02/2015 at 11:10 AM #84020VaWolf82KeymasterI love the internet when it fills in the blanks in my memories. Remember these guys?
Justin Flatt – SG
Dominic Mejia – SG
Adam Simons – CMichael O’Donnell – PG
Cam Bennerman and Engin Atsur were the only two players State actually got from those two recruiting classes.
04/02/2015 at 11:17 AM #84024MISTA WOLFParticipantGott’s recruiting, but it is seniors not freshmen. There are over 700 players transferring this year and I guarantee Gott is looking for someone of the Alex Johnson model.
