Tagged: Midlands Tournament, NC State Wrestling
Only two Pack wrestlers remain in the championship bracket (Gwiz at 285 and Gantt at 157) but the team wrestled well and is maintaining a 4th place team finish with 49.5 points. Just to show you how close this team is to being elite, three other wrestlers lost in the Quarterfinal round (Jack lost in SV 4-2 at 141; Renda lost 8-7 at 184; Boykin lost 8-2 at 197). Sam Speno (149) won four matches in a row in the Consolation round; he has a very good shot at earning a place (tournament places the top-8). Winning the team title here is out of reach, but finishing in the top-3 would be a great end to a solid 2015 portion of the season. Also note, this team didn’t have an entry at either 125 or 133 lbs.
Gwiz and Gantt won their respective titles at the Midlands combined with a 3rd-place finish from Kevin Jack at 141 and a 5th place finish from Pete Renda at 184, the Pack finished 4th as a team. Great job, and look forward to conference season. This team is a strong candidate to win the conference dual season and even wrestle in the National Duals in February. Check out the link from GoPack. By the season’s end, the Pack will have nine dual matches against ranked foes. Coach Pop has a top-5 recruiting class coming in next season. PackWrestle is getting stronger.
