I find it galling that the Technician would publish such an editorial. It’s writer has angered many fans and alumni including this one.
The column mainly berates us for complaining about ACC basketball officiating but does not refute the claims that we have been on the losing end of many close games due to controversial calls/no calls. Poster NavyWolf listed some recent examples but this practice goes back decades. And as he pointed out, nobody is more weary of it than we are. Yes, there is a pattern here, a very old pattern. And there’s a growing body of video evidence.
When Boeheim had his meltdown at the Duke game, I was thinking there ya go Jim. Welcome to the ACC.

1. 1961-62… NCAA investigation results in probation, transfer of players, and firing of one coach.
2. 1973… NCAA investigation that resulted in a one year probation.
3. 1983… NCAA investigation into the recruitment of a player from Greensboro Page results in no penalties. Conclusion: Both sides had been going at each other in a pretty evenly matched battle for decades prior to the Fall of Valvano.
Please do not forget this….
In 1989-90-91… the folks who were the determining factors in the final outcome of the FALL of Valvano.. were not from Orange County and did not wear blue…. they were Inside-Inside-NCSTATE-people…. a fact that some other people have never forgiven.#NCSU-North Carolina's #1 FOOTBALL school!03/03/2014 at 2:28 PM #43928tjfoose1Participant^ I have not forgotten. But those “Inside-Inside-NCSTATE-people” were anti college athletics, anti Valvano, self centered, self absorbed corrupt egomaniacs who took the opportunity to pile on, given the green light by the pitch forks and torches of the William Friday, BOT, N&O led mob.
I question that they were actually “NCSTATE-people”. I suggest they were more of the Larry Nielsen/ Mary Easley type, ie, the inside, politically connected who used NC State as a conduit for self enrichment from the purse strings of the powerful. Their job was to not rock the boat, do as they’re told, and take home their paycheck.

You can, but you gotta do it quick. I think the timeout for editing is less than five minutes.

PS. I heard the student that wrote this article didn’t even attend Wednesday Nights game vs. Carolina. He was apparently “too drunk” to enter PNC. What a joke of an article by the Technician.
03/04/2014 at 11:48 AM #44371RickKeymasterI am guessing he wrote that article while he was drunk as well
