After a thrilling comeback victory on the shoulders of BeeJay Anya, and at the expense of the LSU Tiger’s postseason dreams, the Pack has a quick turn

03/20/2015 at 2:04 AM #81118WufpackerParticipantYeah, baby!
I need to call all of my unrecognizing kinfolk and tell ’em to stay home (and stay off my phone) Saturday night.
Nosy-assed neighbors too.03/20/2015 at 8:35 AM #81133EdMarParticipantThe way we have played this year one great game followed by one bad. I would say FG% 42.4%, 3PT FG%-20.8%, 11 TO was the “BAD ONE” so we have the next one in the bag!!!!
Go Pack!
03/20/2015 at 9:30 AM #81142mook21ParticipantHow can someone buy tickets to the game? Never been to an NCAA game, so unsure where to buy them… Only 3 hrs from Pittsburgh in Virginia!
03/20/2015 at 10:12 AM #81153Daniel_Simpson_DayParticipantI didn’t see a tourney open thread, and I wasn’t sure where to post this so if it needs to be moved somewhere else, feel free to do so.
Some will enjoy this article for the barbs thrown at our friends down the road; others will take be turned off at the swipe of BJD’s “shadow pack”. I just thought it was all-around good muckraking fun. For those unfamiliar with Phil Mushnick, he is to trolling as Gregg Doyle is to…well…trolling.

03/20/2015 at 10:56 AM #81163KhanParticipantWe will win. That is all.
03/20/2015 at 10:58 AM #81166RickKeymasterI would love to whip up on Villanova.
We will/must play better to do so but we have proven we can be a very hard team to beat when we are hitting on all cylinders03/20/2015 at 11:29 AM #81172kjedwardParticipantI’ll be in nyc for the game tomorrow evening. Any recommendations on where to watch that might have some Wolfpack supporters?
03/20/2015 at 11:32 AM #81174PapaJohnParticipantSince Julius left, I haven’t really had expectations of an extended run. And this year is no exception. Just looking at the seedings and assuming all win (who knows?), we’d have an extremely difficult path. Three #1 seeds and a #2.
#1 seed Nova
#4 Louisville
#2 UVA
#1 DU
#1 UKSo, in my mind, the best thing that could realistically happen is that we pull off a miracle and get to the second weekend. That gives the team, and the rest of us, double the time to enjoy participating in the NCAAT. That is a great reward for a pretty good season. That’s my hope for our team.
GO PACK!
03/20/2015 at 11:36 AM #81175mook21ParticipantOut of those listed, I am not scared of Villanova, already beat Louisville, gave UVA all they could handle and beat Duke (and also got the poo beat out of us by them as well…). UK, of course…. But taking it one step at a time, I think we can beat a guard heavy team like Nova, then see how the team handles success! Could be fun.
03/20/2015 at 1:07 PM #81192KhanParticipantWe can beat any of those teams except Kentucky, which is not going to make it anyway.
03/20/2015 at 4:16 PM #81207jrhjrParticipantI understand that most on here are NC State fans, but, like most others out there, you are taking Villanova lightly at your own peril. Villanova (13-1, #4 RPI) had more Top 50 RPI games than NC State (4-8, #40 RPI), and played in the #2 ranked conference in the country (behind the Big 12). Finally, you ignore advanced and more predictive ratings such as offensive and defensive efficiency, where Villanova (7 Off., 13 Def.) clearly dominates NC State (55 Off., 134 Def. ONE HUNDRED THIRTY-FOURTH IN DEFENSIVE EFFICIENCY). If it is just your opinion as a fan that NC State is going to win, that’s what fans do, but opinion should have some basis in reality, and the reality is that Villanova is clearly the favorite tomorrow night.

Umm, we know that. But there’s a reason they play the game rather than awarding the victory ahead of time based on prior stats. Let us have our fun.
03/20/2015 at 4:26 PM #81211jrhjrParticipantNobody is saying that NC State can’t beat Villanova. Heck, I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t very nervous. It was simply to point out that the overwhelming majority of people do not seem to treat Villanova as a serious contender. That is folly.

So that means Villanova played in a conference that wasn’t as good as the conference that lost to TWO #14 seeds in the same day. I understand now why we should just forfeit.
GEAUX PACK!

For a fan blog, most folks who post/comment/lurk here are firmly grounded in reality – much more so than at a lot of fan sites.
Most any reply you find that is seemingly disregarding Villanova can be written off as the bravado and fun that comes with the tournament.
As a fanbase / university that is often typecast as ‘step-child’ or ‘little brother’ we get it – Espn and casual fans paid little fare to the Big East this season. Trust me, we all know State beating Nova will be a tall order. Point of fact, there are a few ‘fans’ here who are chomping at the bit to dole out the ‘I told you so’s’ when and if Nova (or any other team) does beat State. They can’t effing wait and get their rocks off on telling others how much they ‘knew’ State would suck after a loss.
Anyhoo, most of us here know the frustration of sentiments not based in reality. Good luck, hope it’s a good game. Go Pack.

I have zero issue with that statement – we’ve all seen it happen this year. I also have zero issue with the corollary that State can lose to just about any team. We have seen that too. I choose to believe in the positive.
03/20/2015 at 5:14 PM #81224JeremyHParticipantBryce Drew is the Valpo coach? heh, that’s awesome. Don’t fear the turtle Bryce!
Maryland seems to have done extremely well after its departure, tied this Dez Wells fellow.03/20/2015 at 6:28 PM #81239mak4dpakParticipantIt is okay, if we the fans take Villanova lightly, with our comments, as long as the team don’t do that, and come out of the gates with fire. Can’t see us coming back from a large deficit against Nova! Go Pack!
03/20/2015 at 6:55 PM #81244WulfpackParticipantIf we can get by Nova, oh my…
03/20/2015 at 10:26 PM #81269Tau837Participantyou are taking Villanova lightly at your own peril
Villanova had a great season. But their best victory by RPI was over VCU. Their second best victories were wins over Providence. That is fairly underwhelming.
Meanwhile, State beat Duke at home. Duke is better than Villanova. They also beat UNC and Louisville on the road, both more impressive wins than any of Villanova’s wins. So there is no doubt State is good enough to beat Villanova on a neutral floor. There is also no doubt that State can lose to almost any team, and can certainly lose to a team as good as Villanova.
Obviously, Villanova is the favorite. Duh. But State has a solid chance to beat them. And that’s why State’s fan base is excited about the matchup.
03/21/2015 at 1:59 AM #81296bill.onthebeachParticipant@jrfromphilly && others…
Since I’m one of the old men here and since I am well known as being one whose outlook is, generally speaking, both positive and objective…
We meet good guys like you from faraway places once or twice a year… and most all are welcomed, albeit with a little good natured, trashtalking… Most of the SFN guys remember that guy from Arizona a couple of seasons ago, whatwashisname… ya’ll just add a little extra spice to our “stew”…
Anybody who brings “numbers” to the table as you have… will be respected, which you know does not mean automatic approval of your points…
… and yeah… there’s a few guys here that just ain’t seen enough games to know what they are talking about… you’ll know them because they have famousplayersnumbersintheirusernames and saydumbassthings… we mostly try to ignore them and you might want to too..
——————-
Now Sir… consider this…1. This Wolfpack Team leads the nation in winning high profile, rivalry games that on paper it had no chance of winning… ie… Louisville, Dook, *NC, Syracuse …
Tell me again, please… who Villanova beat this season that it should not have beat…
2. In last Thursday night’s game against LSU… on the benches, where some games are won and lost, we saw “teacher” v. “pupil”… GOTT v. Jones…
LSU was the only team this season, which played a perimeter defense that prevented our ball screens from being effective… so much that they were abandoned at halftime… a move that, coupled with a stiff Defense and our bench, led to the comeback and the victory…
We were mentally ready to play from the start Thursday and anyone who says we took LSU lightly, doesn’t know what they are talking about… Around the eight minute mark in the first half… our “gameplan” was totally in shambles and it took about 15 minutes playing time to adjust and get back in the game…
The point is this… Villanova better have two good punches…
3. That Thursday night game will be a wakeup call for our young kids… four of top seven had never played a NCAA tournament game… that said, we are a deep team and GOTT will not hesitate to go ten deep… I don’t know anything about your Villanova team… but the game may well be one of those where the starters battle more or less even and the game is won by whichever bench outplays the other…
We have four BIGS… and they all do different things, especially as that relates to Team Chemistry… and the truth is… nobody really knows how that is going to work out in terms of production from game to game until after the game is over… which fact drives all of us, including our Coaches … batf’ingcrazy…
Point is … Villanova better have four good BIGS too in order to win this game…
4. We have three shooters and two drivers on the perimeter… Anyone of them can singlehandedly take over a game if they go off.. Problem is … nobody has a clue whose night it may be until the game is almost over… they like to look at each other a lot… which drives us and our coaches batf’ingcrazy…
and then our BIGS like to touch the ball on occasion, other than a rebound, which adds flavor to the confusion…
Point is Villanova’s perimeter defense will need to play one of their best games of the season… ’cause they really need to try and stop all three of our shooters and both of our drivers…
That’s right … you GOTT to stop five with three…
5. Finally unless Villanova has the ghost of Rollie Massimino sitting on the bench… this could come down to who outcoaches whom in the fourth quarter… see above…
My point here is simply this… No disrespect to your current coach or team… but with a one day turnaround…GOTT && Company aint’ gonna make a lot of adjustments just for this game… They are gonna focus our kids on doing the same things that they have done successfully in every other BIG game this season…
Frankly … our young kids ain’t smart enough yet to handle a bunch of adjustments in one day… so Coach is gonna try and keep it simple…. He coming straight at you … what you see is what you’ll get…
So what I’m really saying is this…I’d be just as concerned about Villanova taking NCState too lightly as the reverse…
Holler Back on that… if you please…
… and you are more than welcome to join us during the game tonight… just wear your steel britches…
